My Apologies

2018-03-27 Thread Mama Peach
I need to apologize for saying that the HULU app is accessible. It is to a
degree, but it is not 100 percent accessible. I have found that the browse
feature of the app works very well with VoiceOver, but the search feature does
not work at all. I am sorry if I gave the wrong information to everyone, I was
just so happy to see some improvement on the app, and it is enough of an
improvement, in my opinion, that it is usable to at least browse around to find
things to watch. Hopefully the developers of the Hulu app will continue to make
even more improvements to make it accessible like it used to be, but for now, I
am happy enough just being able to browse again.

Do you want to just check your heart rate, or to monitor it over time, like
when you are working out. Heart Rate Free will give you a check of your

Hello everyone,

I don't know exactly how to ask this. So I am just going to do my best.

Are there Apps out that can monitor your heart rate, when using an iPhone?

If so, how does this work?

Also, what Apps are most accessible with Voiceover?

Thank you,

Terri

RE: How do I switch back from another call

2018-03-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Here a couple of comments regarding what Mark and Marie said. First, Mark, I
found you have to be careful because at least here if the other party already
hung up by the time I press the middle button of the remote the call may have
switched over automatically back to the original caller and it wouldn't be the
first time that I hung up on the original caller because I pressed the middle
button of the remote thinking I would switch but in fact the call had just
beccome active so in essence I hung up on the original caller.
Marie, the swap button is an option, but again, if you tap it while the other
call is still active you are in fact no hanging up on that first call. Usually
I make sure I end the first call, then I find the button which is selected and
by unselecting it it connects me back to the first caller. Of course the keypad
may be there so you would have to tap on "Hide" in the bottom right corner
first before you see all these buttons.

And the fact you can change skin tone and that there are dozens of emojis
representing today's lifestyles showing families with two fathers, two
mothers, men kissing men and women kissingt women is not representing our
so-called modern society? Your friend thinks it looks like a 50's person,
maybe somebody else doesn't.
I personally see emojis as what they are, fun little things you can put in a
message, they are not photo-quality images and making such a fuss makes
little sense to me. But then of course it obviously makes a lot of sense to
you which shows how differently we all perceives these things. Nobody stops
you in seeking the support of a million people and petition this to be
changed, but I'm not so sure there is a lot of point to continueing the
discussion on this particular list. I guess Mark can say it's totally OK in
which case I just press delete when I see the subject from now on.

My sighted friend said the figures are cartoon like rather than an image
that represents an actual person. He said they have a 1950’s look to them.
Rob, humanity changes and today’s images should represent the people of
today. For example, almost no one had tattoos
50 years ago. Now, more than half of adults under 35 in the United States
and Europe have either a tattoo or have died their hair a color that is not
natural to humans. Similarly, people are bigger now than in the past, Male
recruits to the U.S. military weighed on average 160 lbs. in 1960. Now, they
weigh 200.

While I'm almost certain that the decline in VoiceOver accessibility applies to

Oh, crap! I need to write to them, too. Thanks, Mark, for bringing things to
all our attention. I know it's been a bit weird since I got it a few months
ago, but it was always something I could deal with relatively easily--the
situation wasn't ideal, but it was at least useable. I'm hoping they fix things
and make them even better than before. By the way, which app is this refering
to? I'm pretty sure Zillow has an app for renting appartments or houses, and
one for buying a house.

Thanks,
Ari

Subject: Join Me In Requesting that VoiceOver Accessibility for Zillow for iOS,
Be Restored

Hello Everyone,

Zillow is a very excellent real estate buying and home rental service.

As OF THE LATEST RELEASE, VoiceOver accessibility for Zillow, for iOS has been
broken.

While some VoiceOver functionality exists, the ability to single-finger swipe
from right to left, in order to have VoiceOver focus scroll the screen, as well
as the 3-finger screen-scroll gesture, no longer functions as expected.

Please join me in requesting that VoiceOver accessibility be restored.

You may contact Zillow directly by sending an email to:
iphonefeedb...@zillow.com, or by posting a review in the App Store, or by
contacting them on Twitter at, @Zillow.

The following text was taken from my feedback to Zillow. You may use any or
all of it in your communication with them:

[BEGIN FEEDBACK]:
I am writing to inform you that as of the last several releases of Zillow for
iOS, VoiceOver accessibility has been steadily degrading.

VoiceOver is Apple's software screen reading solution for the blind and low
vision.

As of this latest release, several VoiceOver gestures such as single-finger
swiping from right-to-left, and the 3-finger screen scroll gesture no longer
function as expected.

As a result, a visually impaired user cannot access the various listing
information for a home.

I fervently request that VoiceOver accessibility be restored to full
functionality as soon as possible.
[END FEEDBACK]

Thank you all for your support on this.

Mark

How do I switch back from another call

2018-03-27 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello everyone,

I have a simple question. But I can't figure out the answer.

If I am on my phone, and I put my call on hold to answer another call,
how do I get back to that first call?

I can't figure this out and it's driving me crazy!

Any help is appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

RE: Good USB flash drive to use with my iPhone?

2018-03-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There are several, they are all comparitively expensive because of the
Lightning port and pretty much all require you to use an app to view or use the
content on the USB drive. You may know that Apple is a bit different from
Windows or Android, you can't just plug in a USB drive and access the files on
it. If you are thinking of putting music on the USB drive then you can
certainly do so but you will not be able to play said music in the native music
app.

It might have to do with the rumored release of a new IOS update, which if it

Having trouble with be my eyes

2018-03-27 Thread Kathy Brandt
After updating today, (and I am on the current version of iOS) when I tried
bringing it up, it said unable to process purchases from the iTunes store at
this time. There was nothing to purchase; be my eyes is free. I don’t
understand. I rebooted my device, and I’m still getting this message, which I
get after deleting the app and trying to reinstall from the App Store it tells
me to try again later. Is anyone else experiencing this?

Hi All!
Amanda Tolson here from En-Vision America the makers of ScripTalk talking
prescription reader. Great news, we are currently beta testing our new IOS
ScripTalk App. It does still require using a participating pharmacy that
provides the RFID labels, but the number of participating pharmacies is
growing every day! You do need an IPhone 7 or higher to use the app because
of limitations Apple has set for developers of Apps that use RFID. Call us
and we can let you know what pharmacies participate. 800-890-1180. Oh, and
if you’re interested in beta testing and have an IPhone 7 or higher let me
know.

Take Care,

RE: IOS 11.3 hits today

2018-03-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Sorry, I forgot as well that public beta 6 was already released on March 16,
Apple released beta 5 on the Monday and then Beta 6 on the Friday that same
week. Doing a Google search for "iOS 11.3 beta 7" does not bring up anything,
but I guess it is possible that it was just released to developers in the last
hour or so and nobody has posted anything yet. Anyhow, on my iPhone it says
there are no updates (I am on public beta 6). I also found no Forbs article
about a public release and would agree with others that the initial post was
based on siomebody's fake news. If a beta 7 has indeed been released or will be
released today or tomorrow then I still predict that it will be the Goldmaster
and that we'll see a public release next week, maybe on Tuesday, April 3 or
Wednesday, April 4. Please note that this is not "news", it is a prediction
based on what Apple has done in previous years and on release patterns.

Regards,
Sieghard

The official word has come out, the fact that beta 6 is released is true and
that indicates that ios11.3 will come out in a month or 2 or 3 weeks as mostly
one could guess Apple has between 5 and 10 beta releases.

RE: Apple proposes new emojis for people with disabilities, CNET

2018-03-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
And the fact you can change skin tone and that there are dozens of emojis
representing today's lifestyles showing families with two fathers, two mothers,
men kissing men and women kissingt women is not representing our so-called
modern society? Your friend thinks it looks like a 50's person, maybe somebody
else doesn't.
I personally see emojis as what they are, fun little things you can put in a
message, they are not photo-quality images and making such a fuss makes little
sense to me. But then of course it obviously makes a lot of sense to you which
shows how differently we all perceives these things. Nobody stops you in
seeking the support of a million people and petition this to be changed, but
I'm not so sure there is a lot of point to continueing the discussion on this
particular list. I guess Mark can say it's totally OK in which case I just
press delete when I see the subject from now on.

My sighted friend said the figures are cartoon like rather than an image that
represents an actual person. He said they have a 1950’s look to them. Rob,
humanity changes and today’s images should represent the people of today. For
example, almost no one had tattoos
50 years ago. Now, more than half of adults under 35 in the United States and
Europe have either a tattoo or have died their hair a color that is not natural
to humans. Similarly, people are bigger now than in the past, Male recruits to
the U.S. military weighed on average 160 lbs. in 1960. Now, they weigh 200.

Re: IOS 11.3 hits today

2018-03-27 Thread Eric Oyen
ok, who exactly made the announcement? There was no press release from Apple
(and they are the only bonified source on this).

btw, anyone who works for apple, is a contractor for apple or is a current beta
tester for apple are under an NDA and any info they might leak can cause them
significant legal trouble (including paying out lots of money for violating
said NDA).
Now, ZDNet carried a story detailing some of the items proposed in the new iOS
11.3 update, but no actual date was given for release. Until Apple makes that
announcement, it's all just rumor.

um, I am a former beta tester and I KNOW better. No

unless Apple announces it, it's rumor (#FAKENEWS) and no amount of chatter from
"industry sources" is going to change that.

mentioned the new iPad that could be unveiled. I guess we'll find out
here in a few minutes.

And if you were a beta tester you knew that ios 11.3 b6 public will indeed
come out today but there is no stable public release yet to come, it will
come later on in spring in April or May and before someone asks no I don't
know the date and if I knew I would not tell.

Forbs reported this. And they always seem to be accurate. They also

here in a few minutes.

RE: Lyft Question

2018-03-27 Thread joedinero68
Good Afternoon

A quick follow up question. When you look up a price and they are running a
special is the quoted price the after discount price? I just looked up the rate
for both Uber and Lyft to my local commuter rail station and Lyft was literally
almost 2.00 more but if this is the post discount price. Lyft will not be
considered for my upcoming trips.

I only use Lyft. The fares do fluctuate a little between peak and non-peak

are traveling as opposed to giving riders a promotion, then raising the prices.

Good Morning Folks

A couple of Lyft related questions for those who use Lyft and even better yet
both Lyft and Uber. First question is that Lyft often do discounts do you
notice that a particular fare that is normally a certain price suddenly goes up
during those promotions? Second do you find that either one of these tends to
be cheaper than the other or do you find them pretty much par. I have a need
to use ride share for approximately a week while my wife is in Europe and I
rarely use ride share so just pondering my options as Lyft is about to have a
discount starting on the first of the month which just happens to be when I
need use of ride share. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Joe

BARD books won't work in Voice Dream Reader. It's just offered as an option

RE: Apple proposes new emojis for people with disabilities, CNET

The cartoonish/silly style is kind of the point to emojis though. They're not
meant to necessarily be accurate and realistic depictions of things or people
per say.

Re: External Microphone for iPhone 7 or 8?

2018-03-27 Thread goshawk on horseback
one I personally like, is the line6 sonic port vx. it's app is reasonable,
and has a handy monitoring feature, so that you can set the parameters for
the recording, and know how they will sound. it also has a hardware level
control, and a lead, so that you can still use your case with out it getting
in the way. it can be held, or mounted on a standard mic stand, as required.
the one drawback from my point of view, is that there doesn't seem to be a
wind cover available for it, so it isn't the best choice for field work.

I have the Zoom IQ6, which costs about $100 and has an headphone jack and
works with all the recording apps I have tried. It is fantastic!

It has a very, very short lightning plug, so if you have a case, you may
have to take it off when recording unless it is rather thin.

Subject: External Microphone for iPhone 7 or 8?

Hello to the list.
I would really like to find a great stereo microphone that will
connect via the lightning port to the iPhone, primarily for recording
videos, or audio interviews.
Some of the accompanying software for some of these microphones, such
as some of the Irig models, does not seem to work so well, and some of
the hardware can only be used in conjunction with their accompanying
apps.
The cost is irrelevant, I really would like to find a microphone,
preferably with a way to monitor the output through a built in
headphone jack, that will do the best job possible for recording
stereo.
Thanks for any suggestions or recommendations.

My sighted friend said the figures are cartoon like rather than an
image that represents an actual person. He said they have a 1950’s
look to them. Rob, humanity changes and today’s images should
represent the people of today. For example, almost no one had tattoos
50 years ago. Now, more than half of adults under 35 in the United
States and Europe have either a tattoo or have died their hair a color
that is not natural to humans. Similarly, people are bigger now than
in the past, Male recruits to the U.S. military weighed on average 160
lbs. in 1960. Now, they weigh 200.

RE: Lyft Question

2018-03-27 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Joe,

I only use Lyft. The fares do fluctuate a little between peak and non-peak
times. My experience has been the fluctuation is related to the time of day you
are traveling as opposed to giving riders a promotion, then raising the prices.

Thanks

Joe

RE: External Microphone for iPhone 7 or 8?

2018-03-27 Thread Richard Turner
I have the Zoom IQ6, which costs about $100 and has an headphone jack and works
with all the recording apps I have tried. It is fantastic!

It has a very, very short lightning plug, so if you have a case, you may have
to take it off when recording unless it is rather thin.

HTH,
Richard

Cydiaimpactor on mac and apps not in app store on iphone?

2018-03-27 Thread Gianni
Hi,
I’m trying to use Cydiaimpactor to get some non app store apps on my
ios-device. The manual says I have to drag and drop the app to my device in
Cydiaimpactor. The problem is I don’t know how to drag and drop. Command c and
command v won’t work. So how do other voiceover users solve this problem?

Re: Apple proposes new emojis for people with disabilities, CNET

2018-03-27 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
Agree with all this and endorse the mobility/cane technique in particular. The
Symbol cane is generic enough to serve the purpose
for use on these graphic symbols. Red striping is something else here as that
denotes additional deafness or deaf-blind. The RNIB
over here do have such an icon or image with a generic cane included. They
could stylise if they tried, the wheelchair icon is
distinct however lacking in minor detail. Road signage has captured this
technique to greatest effect so far, simply obvious from a
mile away, as they need to be.

Thanks for your response, BobH.

Ps: worth noting that long cane was not introduced until late 60s, canes were
lightweight walking stick length, and white painted
walking sticks before that. Ok, 50 years of long cane availability is an age,
but worth noting it wasn't always so.

Speaking about making assumptions based on limited experience, when
using a long cane in crowded areas, where you're moving more slowly, you
can choke up on the cane so it doesn't extend as far out in front of
you. It's not dangerous, and it doesn't slow you down any more so then
walking in a crowded area does. In addition though, when not in a
crowded area, you can sweep out an area in front of you much further
ahead allowing you to walk more quickly, more normally and more safely.
Obviously people can use whatever cane length they want and they're
comfortable with, but if someone thinks it's tragic to make assumptions
with limited experience then those who don't have experience using a
long white cane probably shouldn't be making assumptions on how it works
and how safe it is or is not.

It seems to me that this question could be solved by making the emojis a
bit more generic or stylized. Give the cane a more intermediate length
and make the cane simpler without the strap and red striping. It'll
still represent a blind person but the actual length and style of the
cane could be interpreted however the viewer wants to interpret it.

Re: Join Me In Requesting that VoiceOver Accessibility for Zillow for iOS, Be Restored

2018-03-27 Thread englishrider91

Thanks,
Ari

These are online games, but use minimal interface, so data cost is minimal.
Interface itself as simplified as possible too. Good

while you are waiting for an appointment or just
have a few minutes on the bus. I am a total vo user.

Hi Jewel,
Here is what I found on the web:

Originally meaning pictograph, the word emoji comes from Japanese e (絵,
"picture") + moji (文字, "character"). The resemblance to the
English words emotion and emoticon is purely coincidental.

I'm glad Apple is going to put some accessibility items in the ever
growing emojy category. As stated before, the general populous is not
going to make buying decisions based off of cane emojys, just like
they would not make the buying decisions based off of other emojys. At
least they are recognizing people with disabilities, even if it is in
this small way. I recall not too long ago when emoji's were starting
to be added at all, hearing concern from some blind folk that there
were not any access emoji's. So it's good to see that Apple have
gotten around to it. I still like and will occasionally use the
Braille Badges from the American Printing House; these emojys are much
more than canes and dogs, and are super fun to use, plus they're free.

I love this comment. Some of us like petite, me for example. And to go
against my own previous
comment, sighted getting caught
between their ankles is an absolute classic error they manage. A cane can
be too long if you cqan't
withdraw it in quick manner to
free from such a trap. Mine is just about Sternum and needs to be pulled to
the perpendicular
without hitting me under the chin.
Mine is designed to achieve this,... I just hated the RNIB offerings,
which are about the standard
offering the rest are stuck
with.

RobH, hopes to get off mobility aids as such, soon now, and sorry I fell for
the bait too.

Christopher, Perhaps you have not been following Jewel's post for a long
time now. you don't grasp
her usual tongue and cheek or brand of Eumar. I would say that If Jewel is
used to using a 3 foot

long before she needs
to turn a corner. I had also experience the same feeling when I use Kane's
that were measured up to

other hand, too short
for me and makes me feel like I am
