Re: Listening to Pro Football on iPad

2018-09-07 Thread Alan Paganelli
The problem with the NFL is they aren’t giving anything away for free if you
want to listen to NFL football you need to buy the entire package it isn’t
cheap and it isn’t fair The NFL package was you get to watch the games on TV
which does me no good being totally like you also get coaches watches which is
also useless the only part of the package at a useful for me is the radio
broadcast where you hear the announcers describe the games you used to be able
to get that one alone for 40 bucks for the entire season but now they want you
to pay for the whole package which is $99.99 I am not paying them 100 bucks
just to listen to Chicago bears lose again or any other team for that matter it
isn’t worth 100 bucks for a blind man The best thing the end FL can do is to
fire Roger get Dale he is the one who started this where everything has to cost
money

UK folks - recommend wearable speaker?

2018-09-07 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
UK residents, could you recommend source and make of wearable speaker so I can
clip it on something but not have to wear any kind of
over-head or especially over-ear devices. I have two hearing aids, so many of
these things wouldn't work for me.

Thoughts please, and link or contact details to supplier.

I use the Amazon basics waterproof and shockproof Bluetooth speaker, which
cones with a carabiner, which you can use to clip it onto a ring on your

Hi Mark,

Thanks for the suggestion. I checked my serial number and it is not among
those eligible for this fix. At least that eliminates this as a cause.

I guess I will just see if it happens again and go from there.

Hello Pam,

It is possible that you may have one of the defective I Phone 8 models that
Apple has recalled.

I will paste in the text to an article that references this matter along with
its link.

It sounds to me that the non-responsive Home button may be a symptom of the
faulty logic board described in the article.

Apple Issues Recall For Defective iPhone 8, Offers Free Repair With Outrageous

For seven months, Apple shipped iPhone 8 devices - originally launched last
September - with a defective logic board. (AP Photo/Marcio Jose Sanchez)

Apple has found that a small percentage of iPhone 8 devices have a defective
logic board that hosts the phone's main electronic components, including the
microprocessor (or the device's brain), the memory and the wireless chip.

The affected devices that were sold between September 2017 and March 2018 in
Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, and the U.S. may
experience unexpected restarts, a frozen screen, or won't even turn on.

Apple will not repair previously damaged iPhone 8

The logic board of the Apple iPhone 8 with the A11 microprocessor and
Qualcomm's 4G modem.iFixIt

Apple said it will repair eligible devices free of charge but with a major
caveat: If your iPhone 8 has any damage that could impair the ability to
complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, you will have to fix it before
Apple will change the defective logic board.

This is quite outrageous as Apple could claim that even the tiniest flaw that
has nothing to do with the defective logic board, like a minor screen crack, a
defective button or a crack in the back of the device, would need to be fixed
first, incurring hundreds of dollars in repair just to be able to fix your
faulty iPhone 8.

Owners of a defective iPhone 8 will either have the choice to pay hundreds of
dollars to fix their phone to finally have a properly working iPhone or opt to
keep their faulty iPhone 8.

To find out if your device is affected by a dodgy logic board, use the serial
number checker here. iPhone 8 Plus models or other iPhone models are not
affected by the buggy board.

Atherton Research's Take

It's outrageous that Apple refuses to fix the defective logic board (or a dodgy
battery in the case of older iPhones) from a previously damaged iPhone 8.

Yes, a cracked screen can make it harder for a service specialist to open the
defective device and then put it back together.

But how much would that really cost the most valuable company in the world -
Apple is now valued at over a $1.1 trillion - to also repair the cracked screen
or even replace the faulty device altogether, especially, as Apple puts it,
that only "a small percentage of iPhone 8 devices" are affected by the
manufacturing defect?

Come on Apple, don't let your users down again. Make the right choice and fix
all the defective iPhone 8 devices, no questions asked.

Not only because it's the right thing to do and that you can easily afford it,
but also because it's just good business sense.

Hi,

I have twice now had the home button on my iPhone 8 become non-responsive,
meaning that if I try to press it to get to my home screen or try to use the
fingerprint identification, there is no feedback at all. It just feels like I
am touching anywhere else on the screen.

After trying it several times, it has so far started working again. It worked
fine for about two weeks between the two times where I had an issue.

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this problem, or if anyone has any
suggestions short of taking it to an Apple store. Unfortunately I don't have
one near me.

Thanks,
Pam

Be that as it may, of all the people that I personally know who own iPhone 8,

How often do you reboot your phone?

Even though many will disagree with me on this, I strongly recommend that you

Also, can you tell us what the display looks like when the virtual home button

Mark,

Thanks for your interest in this.

I probably reboot on average once a week or less unless I run into some strange
behavior.

I had this happen once on my home screen, and the other time when I was trying
to unlock my phone with fingerprint ID.

I have a very small amount of vision, so the next time this happens I will try
to figure out what may be on the screen.

Thanks again,

caveat: If your iPhone 8 has any damage that could impair the ability to
complete the repair, such as a cracked screen, you will have to fix it before
Apple will change the defective logic board.

But how much would that really cost the most valuable company in the world -
Apple is now valued at over a $1.1 trillion - to also repair the cracked screen
or even replace the faulty device altogether, especially, as Apple puts it,
that only "a small p

Give the daily reboot a try and see if doing so does not eliminate the problem.

Thanks again,
Pam

Hello Pam,

I am so glad your device is not listed on the recall list.

Be that as it may, of all the people that I personally know who own iPhone 8,
about 12, specifically, I have not herd of the problem about which we are
discussing.

How often do you reboot your phone?

Even though many will disagree with me on this, I strongly recommend that you
reboot your phone at least once a day; that's at a minimum, in order to insure
peak performance.

Also, can you tell us what the display looks like when the virtual home button
stops functioning? If not, the next time it happens, if possible, have a
sighted person describe the display.

Apple has found that a small percentage of iPhone 8 devices have a defective

microprocessor (or the device's brain), the memory and the wireless chip.

The affected devices that were sold between September 2017 and March 2018 in
Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Macau, New Zealand, and the U.S. may
experience unexpected restarts, a frozen screen, or won't even turn on.

I have an app called Game Day. I can't remember how much it cost, but it was
cheap, around 3 dollars. You get multiple feeds for all of the teams. I think
it is a rebranding of the Pro Football Radio app. I do have that one as well,
and it still works, even though coverage was spotty during the preseason
because many stations don't stream the preseason games.
Sirius XM is another alternative as well as Tunein Radio Premium.

The problem with the NFL is they aren’t giving anything away for free if you
want to listen to NFL football you need to buy the entire package it isn’t
cheap and it isn’t fair The NFL package was you get to watch the games on TV
which does me no good being totally like you also get coaches watches which is
also useless the only part of the package at a useful for me is the radio
broadcast where you hear the announcers describe the games you used to be able
to get that one alone for 40 bucks for the entire season but now they want you
to pay for the whole package which is $99.99 I am not paying them 100 bucks
just to listen to Chicago bears lose again or any other team for that matter it
isn’t worth 100 bucks for a blind man The best thing the end FL can do is to
fire Roger get Dale he is the one who started this where everything has to cost
money

A couple of years ago I recommended Pro Football Radio & Live Scores
+Highlights by JJACR Apps, LLC to a client to listen to football games. It
worked for him for a long time but he says this is no-longer the case. Is there
an app that is accessible with VoiceOver on an old iPad that will deliver the
audio of all the upcoming pro games? It doesn’t have to be free, but I don’t
think he has XM Radio or anything else like that.

WALTR accessibility?

Anyone using WALTR? https://softorino.com/waltr/

I was thinking of grabbing it to use with my iPhone and PC with Jaws, but as
always, the question of accessibility is there. I saw that it’s on sale from
$40 to $20 today.

So . . . if there are any Jaws users with iPhones or iPads who use WALTR out
there, please let me know if it’s accessible? iTunes is not the worst, but
sometimes, you want to simply copy and paste. That and the file upload part
isn’t the “easiest” to use.

Hi I use waltr with jaws. The application is about 50 percent accessible. I
need my son to assist with some aspects. For example, when it is being updated,
you have no clue it is doing that. There is another part of the screen for
wireless which jaws does not read. The application is nice though and when I
have used it I like how easy it is to move files. The other issue is to find
the file once it has been moved.

Siri Having Problems

2018-09-07 Thread Tom Lange
Hi,

I’m not sure what’s happening here, but it seems that intermittently, over the
last week or two, I’ll ask Siri for something and I’ll get a response, then it
will also say something like “Sorry, I’m having a problem. Please try again.”
Has anyone else noticed this lately?

Of course, if I ask for some sort of explanation Siri isn’t smart enough to
give me one such as “your Internet connection is unstable” or “I’m having
trouble understanding you”. So I have no clue about what’s going on.

Problem with a list in the Reminders app

2018-09-07 Thread Marie
In the past I was able to create a list with the reminders app and tell Siri to
add items to the list. When going into the app and clicking on the list, you
would then be able to click on check boxes when the item had been purchased or
completed, etc.
Now when I am in the app I can click on the list, it brings up the Header but
voiceover will not read the app or show the check boxes, although a sighted
user tells me the list is there and visible.
This happens on my IPhone 8 running 11.4.1 and the IPhone 6S running ios 12.
Can anyone see if they have the same results?

Indeed. Paprika is what I mostly use. Also, I have a premium subscription to
Pocket so I'll also save recipes or other food related items there. Sorting via
various tags like recipes, food, breakfast, lunch, eggs, dessert, chicken,
Mexican, etc. works well for me too.

RE: Baseball and football on Sirius app?

2018-09-07 Thread Debbie Downey
Wow Alan!

I believe I have the Internet Package but I am not able to find any of the
local baseball or football teams when I do a search. I went to the link that
was suggested in another post and found the channel that the Tampa Bay Bucks
are supposed to be on but when I did a search for it on the app, it wouldn’t
come up. Oh well!

I’m going to keep this phone # that you provided in case I need it somewhere
down the road!

Debbie,

I have an iPhone 8. Sorry I forgot to include that in my post. And you're right
about the different Sirius XM service packages. I have the internet radio
service which normally sells for $15.99 a month plus additional charges for US
music licensing. However, my experience has been that you should never pay more
than $5 a month for Sirius XM. After my initial period where I was paying full
price was about to end and automatically renew, I called their cancellation
telephone number at (866) 635-2349 and was offered the $5 a month for 6 months
when I said I couldn't afford the regular price.

Hi Alan,

May I ask what model of Iphone you are using? I have a 5S running the latest
IOS and on the Sirius app, I now get something that says: square underscore
audio button in my list of favorites and recently played items. The channel
labels used to be read by VO before the latest update to the app.

Also, don’t you have to have a sports package in order to get sports channels?
I have a Sirius account but don’t get baseball or football channels as you’ve
described.

Thanks!

I'll add to Debby's comments. The Sirius XM app works very well. I just
searched on Memphis Grizzlies and got the play by play channel 894 for it. Like
any of these media services with hundreds of channels, the challenge is
learning the ones you want. But once you've identified them, you can add them
to your Favorites by executing the contextual menu button next to it in your
search results list. Also, you can ask Alexa to play any of these channels if
you have a Sirius account. Just say Alexa, play channel 894 on Sirius XM. Since
the Grizzlies aren't playing right now, I was switched to a generic sports feed.

Hi Fred,

I don’t know of an easy way to do this, but for baseball the play-by-play
channels start at channel. 840. So if you go to the search tab and search for
“ch 840” that will take you to the Atlanta Braves channel, and you can just
keep pressing “next” until you get to the team you want.

You can also search for example “Pittsburgh Pirates Hometown play-by-play,” and
that should get you to what you want.
