Re: really struggling with the home button on the 10 r

2018-12-13 Thread Dave

That is why, i went for the iPhone 8.

In the hope, that when i needed to upgrade again, in about 3 years or so,
that apple, would have made some new changes, or at least refined, some of
the accessibility features.

Hey guys,

OK, if this is the way this phone is going to be, so far, this home
button thing is not cool. I'm really struggling with it on the 10 r.
In my eyes, i am doing everything as advertised, swiping up, holding
my finger on the screen. The phone just keeps going click click click
click click click click, click click click. It's very much hit or
miss. I'd say out of 12 times i try and unlock the phone i may get it
once. I've never struggled with something like this this bad. What
is the secret?

RE: really struggling with the home button on the 10 r

2018-12-13 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Jed,

Wow! This really sounds frustrating for you.

To be clear, I've never even touched a 10 R but I quite frequently use the
other models of the 10 series via VoiceOver and have been impressed with the
results.

Have you tried rebooting the phone?

When I was getting used to the non-home button scenario, I remember that the
first challenge was remembering to swipe up from the very edge of the display.
This proved to be quite crucial.

So, try to get your finger as close to the bottom edge of the display as
possible and swiping up in one smooth, fluid motion.

I'm afraid that's all the advice I have to offer.

Mark

Hi Fanus

Once you’ve checked for updates, you need to close iTunes and make sure that
you are in the Apple Software Update program. That will have the iTunes update
checked. You then tab to the install update button. The update is well worth it
as the column browser and Jaws issue is fixed.

RE: Question regarding the Grocery app through Walmart

2018-12-13 Thread Zhi Huang
Hello:

I've used the Walmart groceries service over a year now. I used to just use
the website on Windows, but when I was traveling this July, I tried the app and
had no problems.

A few weeks ago, I noticed the website made some changes and it was a pain
searching for items and adding from my favorites. I did this with the app and
had no problems. I then noticed the problem with the cart. The issue was I
reserved a pick up slot and had to finish soon. The funny thing was my wife
said, perhaps the website would work better with the cart? I tried it and it
did. Therefore, for the time being, I use app to search for items and add
items from my favorites and then use the website to view the card and finish
the order.

I use the Walmart Grocery app. I have had no problems seeing all of the options
in the departments. Once in a while the stupid app closes itself as you are
flicking through, but you should see everything.
There are tabs at the top you can use to narrow the focus. The cart is a
problem. The screen doesn't scroll properly. So the best way is to go down as
far as you can from the top, then move to the bottom right corner where the
checkout button is located, and then scroll back left. The other thing you can
do is begin to check out, and that summary screen will display the cart
correctly.
It's definitely kind of an unruly app though.

only mono out of the lightening port

2018-12-13 Thread Agent086b
Hi all,
before getting the iPhone Xs I could plug a cord in to the headphone socket and
get stereo output. Now when I put the lightening plug in and use the adapter to
convert to the traditional kind of plug and connect it to the car or anything
else I only get mono from the phone.
How do I overcome this?

Question regarding the Grocery app through Walmart

2018-12-13 Thread Terri Stimmel
 Hello everyone,

I was wondering, does anyone else here, who may have no vision at all, use the
Grocery app, through Walmart? I don’t mean the Walmart app it’s self.

If so, I was wondering, do you struggle with seeing everything that might be

Also, when you are looking through items, maybe browsing every department, do

I love this app. But there are definitely issues for me. But I don’t know if
they are voiceover related, app related, or what.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri

Re: Typing suggestions on the iphone

2018-12-13 Thread Arlene
Jed, while we have the dot protectors, straight from the beginning of using our
iphones we've gotten to know where everything is on the screen, as you probably
have as well. We just talked about it, and for both of us knowing where
everything is on the screen, we don't really use any of the dots for a
guideline to where anything on the screen is. Having those dots there we do get
use to the dots being there, and it might seem strange when there's no dots
there. From person to person some people might depend on the dots on the screen
more than others, so it's hard to say how it is for you, but if you know pretty
much where everything is on the screen, I don't think you would be too lost
without those dots there. It's strange in a sense when you're so use to
something being there, though for you it might be more than that. For example
depending on the dots to be able to go to certain options and icons on the
screen. We have a few se iphones that don't have the dots and since we know
where everything is pretty much, on the screen, we don't have any trouble
navigating the screen. Hopefully it won't be too long before they have the dots
for all these newer iphones.

Hey guys. Ok, so i wanted a few hints. I’m about to upgrade to the iphone

something tactile, i wanted some general feedback. How do a lot of you guys
type? Do you just hold the phone in your right hand and type with your left?

Hey guys. Ok, so i wanted a few hints. I’m about to upgrade to the iphone 10
s. So for years i’ve been using the tactile screen protecter and it has been a
nice guide. Unfortunately, they do not have the tactile screen protecter for
the 10 series of phones. How have you guys done without something tactile, i
wanted some general feedback. How do a lot of you guys type? Do you just hold
the phone in your right hand and type with your left?

Cheers,

Re: Some apple watch questions

2018-12-13 Thread Joney
You would have to sit voiceover originally on the app on your phone. I went
into the my watch app did general to accessibility and then sit voice over from
there. Then you can tap The top like you would your iPhone screen. You would
use you were dial on the watch to leave the home screen and select the app you
were looking for as in heart or activity whether those kind of things. I love
mine. I recently upgraded from a series to series for for some of the health
benefits. Would not trade my Apple Watch for anything!

RE: iTunes update

2018-12-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You can search for any program, file or folder on your computer using the
Windows 10 search box.
For example, press Windows Key and type "Downloads", it may first give you
"Automatic file downloads privacy settings", but if you arrow down you find the
Downloads folder, on my laptop Jaws says "Downloads, File folder in sieghard,
Press right to switch preview"
Tuype "Ex" and if you have Excel on your computer it will most likely be the
first option you get. Type "resolution" or the first few letters and you
probably get "Display Settings" and if you down arrow "Screen Resolution" etc.

Once you’ve checked for updates, you need to close iTunes and make sure that
you are in the Apple Software Update program. That will have the iTunes update
checked. You then tab to the install update button. The update is well worth it
as the column browser and Jaws issue is fixed.

Hi,

You can also ask Siri to turn VoiceOver on, which might be the easiest way to
play with your friend's watch. The VoiceOver gestures are similar to those on
the phone except that you scroll with two fingers instead of three, so the
phone's two-finger gestures don't exist on the watch. When you don't have
digital crown navigation on, you use the digital crown to move quickly through
lists.

Best,
Anna

RE: Some apple watch questions

2018-12-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There is an accessibility shortcut just as on an iPhone where you press the
home button 3 times, on the watch you press the digital crown 3 times quickly,
but if that was never configured it may not work in which case a sighted person
has to turn it on in Settings or you have to start Voiceover on the iPhone the
watch is paired to, open the watch app, go to General > Accessibility >
Voiceover and turn it on there.
As for using the watch it is mostly done by swiping and double tapping just as
on the iPhone although you can turn so-called digital crown navigation on which
allows you to move through items on the screen by turning the crown instead of
swiping right or left.

And if you dictate make sure you think for a second or two to make sure what
you want to say is what comes out of your mouth and keep the dictation short
and in portions or sentences which makes it much more reliable than if you try

Hi Jed,

That is how I type, I hold the phone in my right hand and type with the left. I
moved my index finger around the screen and when I find the letter or symbol I
want I lift my finger. That is touch typing. I also, have the suggestions
turned on so that when I start typing a word, I move my finger just up above
the keyboard and check the words it is suggesting. I like that because it can
make typing faster. Typing like this takes practice. I remember when I first
started typing—and I think before there was dictation—it would take me 15
minutes to type maybe 2 sentences.

You probably know this, but you can always dictate, but before you send
definitely make sure the text says what you meant it to say. There can be some
fairly embarrassing stuff coming from dictation!

I hope that helps!

I had one of these tactile screen protectors when I had my first iPhone 4 in
2010 but never bothered with it for many years now. I seem to be able to hit
the keys pretty reliably, if I miss by one to either side or up or down it's
easy to move the finger a bit and find the right letter and of course for more
typing on the touch screen Flicktype is pretty sweet.

RE: iTunes update

2018-12-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fanus,

Which version of iTunes do you have?
Is it possible you have installed the version of iTunes for Windows 10 from the
Windows Store instead of the desktop version?
What happens if you press the Windows key and type "Apple", if I do this I hear
Jaws say the following:

Apple Software Update, Desktop app, Press right to switch preview

If I press enter the Apple Software Update application opens, if it does for
you, see if there is an iTunes update listed there.

Once you’ve checked for updates, you need to close iTunes and make sure that

Re: Typing suggestions on the iphone

2018-12-13 Thread Alan Lemly

Jed,

You might want to try the Flicktype Keyboard. It is a subscription at $.99 a
month but typing is fast and easy on it provided you know generally where the
keys are located. It is designed to be used in portrait mode with one finger
and you simply tap where you believe the keys you want to be located. After
tapping those keys, you swipe right once and FlickType announces the word it
thinks you want using its excellent predictive engine. You can single finger
swipe through other choices if Flicktype's first guess was wrong. You then
start typing the next word in the same fashion and flicktype inserts the needed
spacing for you. You swipe right again at the end of the sentence and FlickType
inserts a period. It does have a learning curve and takes some practice but it
is well worth the effort.

Re: Cleaning up storage from my iPhone?

2018-12-13 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Jen,

If you turn on Photo Library, all your photos and videos will be backed up to
iCloud, and you'll have the option to optimize storage by putting
low-resolution versions of your photos on your phone. I'm pretty sure that if
you delete a photo on your phone, it will be deleted from your iCloud library,
though. If you want to keep the pictures but not have them on your phone,
you'll need to put them on a computer. I haven't used an iPhone with Windows
for a long time, but it used to be that when you attached an iPhone to a PC, it
showed up in Windows Explorer, and you had access to one folder - the one
containing your photos. If that's still the case, you can copy the photos to
your computer and then delete them from your phone. If you have a Mac, you can
use the Photos app to import the photos on your phone.

Your phone has some other built-in ways to manage storage. You can set up music
to remove tracks you haven't played in a long time. You can set your phone to
offload apps you haven't used in a while. The app data is still there, but the
app is not. It will be downloaded from iCloud if you need it. The only downside
to this is that if the app has been removed from the App Store in the meantime,
I don't think you can get it back from iCloud.

I hope this is of some help.

Best,
Anna

RE: Typing suggestions on the iphone

2018-12-13 Thread Debby
Hi Jed,

That is how I type, I hold the phone in my right hand and type with the
left. I moved my index finger around the screen and when I find the letter
or symbol I want I lift my finger. That is touch typing. I also, have the
suggestions turned on so that when I start typing a word, I move my finger
just up above the keyboard and check the words it is suggesting. I like that
because it can make typing faster. Typing like this takes practice. I
remember when I first started typing-and I think before there was
dictation-it would take me 15 minutes to type maybe 2 sentences.

You probably know this, but you can always dictate, but before you send
definitely make sure the text says what you meant it to say. There can be
some fairly embarrassing stuff coming from dictation!

I hope that helps!

Hey guys. Ok, so i wanted a few hints. I'm about to upgrade to the iphone
10 s. So for years i've been using the tactile screen protecter and it has
been a nice guide. Unfortunately, they do not have the tactile screen
protecter for the 10 series of phones. How have you guys done without
something tactile, i wanted some general feedback. How do a lot of you guys
type? Do you just hold the phone in your right hand and type with your
left?

Cheers,

Re: Typing suggestions on the iphone

2018-12-13 Thread Joney
I’ve never used tactile screen protectors so, my thoughts may not be of
interest to you. I now have a 10 S max. There is definitely a learning curve,
from the other phones, because of no home button. And with face detection on,
it takes a little bit of getting used to. I hold my phone in the left hand, and
do typing in the right. Until him used to the phone and it’s way of doing
things, I tend to put it on standard typing, and then change it to touch
typingWhen we agreed to get along. :-) Most of the Gist years are the same, but
the ones near the bottom to get the same things that you had with the home
button do you take some time. Hope that gives you some ideas.

Hello Debbie
Thanks but that is my problem. I get to the page where iTunes is discussed but

the microsoft store but even there I do not find a link or button. I use

Hi Fanus

Once you’ve checked for updates, you need to close iTunes and make sure that
you are in the Apple Software Update program. That will have the iTunes update
checked. You then tab to the install update button. The update is well worth it
as the column browser and Jaws issue is fixed.
