What a shame., that one of the most recognized pervayers of service can't give
straight answers about a product that clearly many folks would purchase.

Apparently there is a problem between the Transforming Braille group and
the manufacturer and as I was told by someone at APH yesterday, they don't
think they will be selling the Orbit reader any time soon, if at all. That is
all I was told. I think someone needs to come out and let everybody know what

That's surprising, because I know they had one at the NFB national
convention last year, and I looked it over.

I'm interested in one, just need to work on financing, as my funds are
  tight.

One of my fellow local chapter members has one that I looked at again
recently. I am impressed by the crispness of the display, the fact the
cells can be easily felt, a factor for me in attempting to read Braille.

It could double as my Bluetooth keyboard.

  Hello Everyone,

Today, I went to the exhibit hall at the 2019 CSUN Assistive Technology
  Conference here in southern California.

Among other goals, I was interested in test driving a few Braille
displays
for use with my iOS devices.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the A.P.H. booth and discovered
that
they had no Orbit Reader 20s on hand for visitors to explore. While I
was
there, 2 other people walked up and asked about the Orbit Reader 20 and
were
equally disappointed at the lack of a demo model.

I did, however, get a look at an entire host of other BRaile displays,
from
other companies, including the latest version of the Focus 40. Now,
that,
  is a beautiful device.

Regardless, I was sorely disappointed at not having an opportunity to
test
drive the Orbit Reader 20 Braille display.

  And the beat goes on,

  Mark

Subject: Test Drive an Orbits Reader Display Anyone? I Don't think so

Hello Everyone,

Today, I went to the exhibit hall at the 2019 CSUN Assistive Technology
Conference here in southern California.

Among other goals, I was interested in test driving a few Braille displays
for use with my iOS devices.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the A.P.H. booth and discovered that
they had no Orbit Reader 20s on hand for visitors to explore. While I was
there, 2 other people walked up and asked about the Orbit Reader 20 and
were
equally disappointed at the lack of a demo model.

I did, however, get a look at an entire host of other BRaile displays, from
other companies, including the latest version of the Focus 40. Now, that,
is a beautiful device.

Regardless, I was sorely disappointed at not having an opportunity to test
drive the Orbit Reader 20 Braille display.

And the beat goes on,

Mark

My wife has an iphone 8 and T Mobile is our carrier. Her phone works fine
except that it will not receive calls. She can make calls, but received calls
go to voicemail.
I have checked everything I can think of.
Sounds are unmuted. Vibrate and ringer are on, with ringer volume set to 100%.
Do Not Disturb is off. I even tried the last resort of reset network
settings. Nothing seems to change the status. I'm all out of ideas.
  Any suggestions?

Question about the Photos App and Voiceover

2019-03-16 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello to the list.
When I am in the photos app, scrolling through photos, when I do a 3 finger
single tap, often, Voiceover will give a quite accurate detailed description of
the photo, without even needing to open the photo.
But other times, the same gesture will just say page 344 of 345, and no
detailed description is spoken.
I cannot figure out how to get these descriptions spoken consistently, because
when they are spoken, they are quite detailed and accurate.
Thanks for any tips on this inconsistent behavior in the photos app for this
puzzling problem.

First thing I would do is make sure raise to wake is turned off. If you are
using VoiceOver this will get in the way and be really annoying if turned on,
not to mention being a real power drain. It's located within display and
brightness in your settings. I had to take care of this when I went from a 5S
to and 8 Plus last year.

Subject: Query re what settings I ought to check having upgraded to a new IPhone

Hi all

I’m hoping someone can assist me with this. I’ve just upgraded to an IPhone 8.
The shop transferred my sim card, and most things seem to have come across ok.
However, I’m just after any advice as to what settings people think I
should/it’s important to check on my new phone to make sure they’ve all
transferred correctly?? I’m particularly interested in saving as much power as
possible, and also in protecting my privacy. So any advice would be veery much
appreciated.

Secondly, how do I go about changing the name of my IPhone, both on my phone
and my Mac?, so that I know it’s my new phone I’m dealing with? And how do I go
about removing any old phones from my Mac?

Thirdly, there are some apps on this phone that I definitely don’t want
on/won’t use, and I thought that if I removed them I might save myself quite a
bit of storage space. So how/what’s the best way of doing this?

Finally, how do I check that text message forwarding is working correctly
between my new phone and my IPad/Mac?

Sorry for all the questions, but any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks.

Eleanor

RE: Phone Cannot Receive Calls

2019-03-16 Thread Carolyn Arnold
You know, Andy, I was having that with text messages. A savvy sighted friend
suggested that I check in Settings to see if Text Messages was turned off in
Sounds. I did, and it was. I turned it back on, and VOILA, now they come. I had
set the signal for them to be Sherwood Forest, thinking I could not hear the
ding. Well, I can tell you that I can really hear the Sherwood Forest. I had
two messages today, and they came through loud and clear. I am very pleased to
have that back. So, I just wonder if it is possible that your ringtone is
turned off?

Best regards,

RE: Hearing aids locking up when streaming media or telephone

2019-03-16 Thread Carolyn Arnold
It does, and I knew that going in. Interesting that the Resound and the Oticon
engineer seem frustrated about some conflict with VoiceOver and Blue Tooth. It
could be a rather common problem. I suspect that through the years, it will
improve.

It would be nice if you could set it for automatic or manual. I'd prefer
manual, because if the Blue Tooth really worked, I'd want it most of the time.
One thing about it though, is that it uses more battery from phone and from
hearing aids.

Best regards,

Carolyn

Hi All,
Here is what I figured out today on my Resound aid. First of all aids when
connecting to media, VO and telephone use Apples Hearing software MFI. So here
is what happens. When I have my iPhone set for phone calls to come into my aids
that part works well. But when I end the call my aids drop back to the aids.
But when I make any gestures on the iPhone VO is still connecting to my aids
even though I have that turned off. The only way to get VO not to go into my
aids or stop if from doing that I have to go into the control panel and set it
back to the iPhone instead of the hearing aids. Normally what is suppose to
happen is when I am done with a call everything is suppose to go back to the
iPhone but VO does not. This is a known issues with VO users. People who do not
use VO do not have this issue. The Resound tech told me Apple has to make a
change for this to be corrected. So if you have VO going into your aids all the
time you will not have a problem. The issue is I don't want VO to go to my aids
after the call has ended. I want it to come out the iPhone speaker and this is
what is not working correctly. I have to manually go in and change this every
time after a phone call.
I hope this makes some sense to all of you hearing aid users.
Mr. Ed

Hi Carolyn:

I think you should put up a fight. They didn't tell you ahead of time that
they would not be compatible with your iPhone and voice over.

That is a lot of money for something that doesn't do what you were expecting.

That was the great thing about Costco. You have six months to return them for
a full refund if you are not satisfied for any reason.

Apparently there is a problem between the Transforming Braille group and the
manufacturer and as I was told by someone at APH yesterday, they don't think
they will be selling the Orbit reader any time soon, if at all. That is all I
was told. I think someone needs to come out and let everybody know what is
actually going on.

Among other goals, I was interested in test driving a few Braille displays
for use with my iOS devices.

Imagine my surprise when I arrived at the A.P.H. booth and discovered that
they had no Orbit Reader 20s on hand for visitors to explore. While I was
there, 2 other people walked up and asked about the Orbit Reader 20 and were
equally disappointed at the lack of a demo model.

Mark

Hi Terri,

To get your iCloud mail back on your phone, you go to settings, then your name
which is the top group of settings, go into iCloud and turn mail on. That is
all you have to do.

RE: Issue with the Capital One Mobile app

2019-03-16 Thread Cristobal Muñoz
I'll double check, but I'm a straight VoiceOver user. To the best of my memory,
I haven't really monkeyed around with zoom or enlarged text size, etc.
Today, I got a button below the Creditwise button and two tabs at the bottom of
the screen for auto loan advertisement. Still no locator though.
I even checked my app settings in the iPhone's settings and while my other
banks. Wels Fargo, USBank have a toggle for location services, this Capital One
app does not.

This is a fabulous point, Yolanda.

Wow! I never would have thought of that.

Yes, it is oh so important to use standard screen size settings when first
testing out a feature.

An excellent point, indeed.

I have an iPhone 10S and I can see the branch atm button. Are you using zoom

RE: Query re what settings I ought to check having upgraded to a new IPhone

2019-03-16 Thread Bill Outman

Thanks.

My wife has an iphone 8 and T Mobile is our carrier. Her phone works fine
except that it will not receive calls. She can make calls, but received
calls go to voicemail.
I have checked everything I can think of.
Sounds are unmuted. Vibrate and ringer are on, with ringer volume set to
100%.
Do Not Disturb is off. I even tried the last resort of reset network
settings. Nothing seems to change the status. I'm all out of ideas.
Any suggestions?

Andy

Andy,

There is probably something wrong with her SIM card.

I would try re-inserting it or get a new one.
