I have had this happen for 3 years and the only thing you can do about it is
restore to factory settings and rebegin.

Hello Andrew,

I have not noticed any changes in any of my app notifications.

While you could definitely try the "reset all settings" options, were I you,
I would simply disable/re enable the various app notifications in question
and see if that solves the problem.

No, you should not have to do this but, with all of the strange and
seemingly inconsistent behavior many of us are experiencing in iOS 13.x,
nothing surprises me, anymore.

Re: considering Apple watch

2019-10-21 Thread Ann Byrne
I don't like my Apple watch because it doesn't reliably tell the time
without speaking. It may be operator error, but I have tried
repeatedly to make haptic time work ... and sometimes it
does. However, often the watch speaks the time instead of vibrating
it. I sometimes wear my Seiko Braille watch because I can count on
it to be silent. and my phone gives me all the messages and news
headlines that I want. One setting I have enabled is supposed to
make the watch stop talking when you place your palm over it. Mine
seems to feel it has to finish the thought before it will stop, palm
over or not.

However. The Apple watch includes exercise goal setting that I don't
have otherwise--how many hours I stood for at least a minute, how
many minutes I actually exercised ... current heart rate, heart rate
min and max at six hour intervals. I'm old, so I like to track that
once in a while.

Which series of watch do you have? I find on my new fifth generation watch it's
very rare that haptic time does not work if I make sure to give it the 2 or 3
taps required (depending on whether I want hours included or not) nice and
deliberately and of course you have to make sure you disable raise to wake and
all that stuff.

I would also highly recommend fantastical 2. It’s well worth the money. When
you add an event you can do it all in one sentence, title, date, time and if
you want to add repeats. It’s also easy to check your upcoming events.

God bless!

Re: Twitterrific's Contex menu New Tweet item

2019-10-21 Thread Gerardo Corripio
What I’m trying to say is that on iOS13, double-tap and hold brings up what’s
called a context menu, right? Within that Context menu, yu now have an option
“New Tweet” which isn’t reliable as I’d like, thus I changed back for the time
being, while Twitterrific, fixes this issue, to Tweetings, in which the “New
Tweet” rom the Context menu, is very reliable!

Re: calendars

2019-10-21 Thread Vicki W.
I was asking more which is the best default calendar to use for the phone. I'm
not liking the gmail calendar. I know Google has one and I have the ICloud
which I've never tried. Is Gmail the best to use with Fantastical II or would
another calendar allow more info?

  Fantastical 2 for iPhone, $4.99.

It pulls the information from your iPhone.

If Gmail is your default calendar source, it will use it.

RE: calendars

2019-10-21 Thread Albert Ruel
I use a Google Calendar that is synchronized to my PC in Outlook and to
Fantastical and VO Calendar in my iPhone XR. Fantastical is great for
inserting appointments because you can do it all on one line of text, however
VO Calendar is great for looking at each day or week at a glance. Oh, and the
other way I add to and check my calendar is through either Alexa or the Google
Assistant. In fact, I likely use Alexa and G A for most of my appointment
insertions and checks. Alexa, what’s on my calendar this afternoon?

Thx, Albert

I would also highly recommend fantastical 2. It’s well worth the money. When
you add an event you can do it all in one sentence, title, date, time and if
you want to add repeats. It’s also easy to check your upcoming events.

God bless!

Open Phone settings, go down toward the bottom to silence unknown callers.
Enable that.
Then anyone not in your contacts will not ring.
They will show up in recent calls and they can leave voice mails, but you won't
know that until you check the phone app.

Reading Shortcut Keys

2019-10-21 Thread kelly
Hi,

Many iOS apps list the keyboard commands when you hold down the cmd key.
How do you read this info with VoiceOver?

Thank you,

I have not run into this.
Could you give specific examples of apps that do this?
You are saying just holding down the Command Key, right?
I've tried in Mail, Message, Phone, and nothing happens.

RE: Reading Shortcut Keys

2019-10-21 Thread kelly
Hi,

According to different Apple documentation and a developer I was talking to, if
you hold down the cmd key, apps should list there shortcuts. I don’t know if
the listing of the keys is specific to the iPad or if it also works on the
phone.

I couldn’t get any keys in apps I know support them to show on my phone,
independent of VoiceOver.

I recommend a hard reset, but it depends on your device as to how you
accomplish it.
On the iPhone 6S and prior you push and hold the home button and side button
simultaneously for about 12 seconds.
On the iPhone 8 you push volume up, then volume down and then push and hold the
side button for about 12 seconds.
Not sure how it works on the iPhone X, XR/XS and 11/11S

RE: considering Apple watch

2019-10-21 Thread R Van Lant
Thanks for the thoughts. My sighted coworker is singing the praises of Apple
watch. Part of what makes it such a hit in her world is the raise to wake
feature and then being able to immediately ask a question hand free. Sounds
like that is out the window for Voiceover users, but maybe we have some fun
features, too. I'll read the AppleVis articles I can find and go into the
Apple store to see one in action. Good to know that the processor speed is
significantly better on the newer ones. I will avoid the earlier editions.

I don't like my Apple watch because it doesn't reliably tell the time without
speaking. It may be operator error, but I have tried repeatedly to make haptic
time work ... and sometimes it does. However, often the watch speaks the time
instead of vibrating it. I sometimes wear my Seiko Braille watch because I can
count on it to be silent. and my phone gives me all the messages and news
headlines that I want. One setting I have enabled is supposed to make the
watch stop talking when you place your palm over it. Mine seems to feel it has
to finish the thought before it will stop, palm over or not.

However. The Apple watch includes exercise goal setting that I don't have
otherwise--how many hours I stood for at least a minute, how many minutes I
actually exercised ... current heart rate, heart rate min and max at six hour
intervals. I'm old, so I like to track that once in a while.

RE: IOS 13.3 bug

2019-10-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
If you follow my steps and if the phone is not dead as in dead battery it will
work.
1. Press and release the volume up button
2. Press and release the volume down button
3. Press and hold the power button on the side opposite to the volume buttons,
as soon as you press it count to 12 or 14, then release it and wait about 15 or
at most 20 seconds.
If you don’t hear Voiceover plug in a wired headset and check if you can hear
Voiceover, maybe your volume is down.
If you still don’t hear Voiceover, is it possible that when you tried to get
Voiceover back previously you turned it off?
If you don’t hear Voiceover without wired headset and also not with a wired
headset push and hold the home button and tell SIRI “Turn on Voiceover”.
The hard reset works for me every time and I also have an iPhone 8.

Re: IOS 13.3 bug

2019-10-21 Thread Richard Turner
Either way, if it doesn't come back, plug it in to power and see if it comes on.
I have had it happen where I held the button too long and it powered off.
But the timing is also important.
Fairly quickly press and release the volume up, then press and release the
volume down, then hold in the power/side switch for 10 or 12 seconds.
Like I said, if you have earphones in, you may hear a faint click.
If all else fails, you may need to get sighted help to confirm if it is on and
silent or just off.
HTH,

Not sure how it works on the iPhone X, XR/XS and 11/11S

Hi,
My phone is silent now, I lost all speech and sounds.
Should I get a sighted person to do a had reset?
It's the same bug where you end a call and voice over goes away so does siri
and sounds.
How do I reboot the phone again?
I only feel vibrations again.

RE: IOS 13.3 bug

2019-10-21 Thread Keao wright
Ok, thank you!

I will give it a try again.

I hope it comes back!

Did you also turn the volume up all the way?

Either way, if it doesn't come back, plug it in to power and see if it comes
on.

HTH,

Hi Richard,

Yes, I also noticed that faint click when a headset is connected, but on my
iPhone 8 it’s at least 10 seconds, I have never had it as fast as 6 or 8.

I think 12 is a safe bet and not so long that it interferes with the phone
restarting.

When I tried to do the hard reset, it’s not working on my 8 at all.

And I might need to take it down to t-mobile again.

Is there a way for accessibility to take a look?

I didn’t have any headphones connected.

I'm fairly sure the X phones and 11's use the same steps as the 8, but someone
will correct me if I'm wrong.

In my experience it only takes 6 to 8 seconds. If you have an earphone in, you
can hear a faint click when it reboots.

RE: IOS 13.3 bug

2019-10-21 Thread Keao wright
Hey, your steps work!

I felt the vibration, and I entered in my pass code wrong, so I turned on voice
over with a triple click, and it came back!
