RE: Transfer music from iPod to iPhone 11

2019-11-25 Thread Fanus Buys
Hello Sieghard and Anna
Yes, Sieghard, you are spot on about the wifi aspect. Sometimes I wonder why
our forefathers from the Netherlands and germany and other countries had this
desire to come to Africa 367 years ago. I am envious of you folks with all the
nice things but I suppose one must make the best of circumstances. This is why
these technical email lists and all your willingness to help is so important
and although we do not say it enough, we are very thankful and appreciate your
time to assist us.
Regards
Fanus

Hi Anna,

Fanus is in South Africa and I assume he only has WiFi via a cellular hotspot
or something like that.
My wife is from the Philippines and I know that very few people there have
their own WiFi at home and if they do it's usually via some pocket WiFi hub
which still uses cellular data and plans. The one thing there is that with some
of these you get these promos, e.g. you can have unlimited use of Facebook or
unlimited streaming of some movie service they have there which is basically
the Filipino version of Netflix etc.
My wife's sister at times had plans which included unlimited data, but it was
for some stripped down version of the service which I think was called Facebook
Light, not something we probably even have here, but she could for instance use
Messenger as much as she wanted for text chat, but she could not use it for
video calls.
We are spoiled here in the US, Canada and also most European countries and
Australia/New Zealand with super-fast fiber internet with unlimited data or
even if it's a good ADSL or cable connection it's still pretty good over what
most of the rest of the world has or can afford and it's also the larger part
of the world, certainly when it comes to population.

Hi Fanus,

Downloading from iCloud won't count against your data if you do it over Wi-Fi,
will it? Usually Wi-Fi plans allow for a lot of downloading.

Do you have enough room on your phone for all the music? If so, with the phone
connected, choose Music, and find the control that will let you sync all your
music. It should say something like, "Sync all music." Once you choose that and
choose Sync, all the music should be copied.

Best,
Anna

Apple today seeded the third beta of an upcoming watchOS 6.1.1 update to

three weeks after releasing the watchOS 6.1 update. Once the proper
configuration profile has been installed from the Apple Developer Center, the

GPS seems to be a new thing with various voices so I think it came with iOS 13.
You can go into the VoiceOver Speech, Pronunciations and add it in with the
substitution G P S, and make sure it is set to all voices.
That fixed it for me; but it shouldn't have said it that way to begin with of

The "to the power of" issue happens in most books for me. Usually it is
pronounced where there is an em dash (this symbol —) or certain types of
quotation marks. I haven't encountered this in Safari or other apps, just
in VoiceDream. I am noticing the other pronunciation issues described,
 however.

Isn’t the pronunciation of the iOS voices provided by the Vocalizer? So,

Have anyone tried to contact the maker of vocalizer regarding such

Hmm. I’ll have to mess with this. In theory, if you do a VO-F6 and it
indicates all of the selected items you have chosen are present, the drag and
drop Should include all of the selected items.

2019-11-25 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi JOhn,

That's a good thought. I tried it, and as when I moved up and down the list
without the VO keys, I was told everything I chose was added to the selection.
The drag and drop didn't put any of the selected tones on my device, however.
Being able to do it reliably with one tone is great, though.

Best,

RE: How to Update Apps in Current Version of IOS

Right but in my attempt to be flexible, I’d be happy with a My Accounts tab
replacing the old Updates tab.

For whatever it’s worth, there never was a My Account tab, but there was the
Updates tab, My Account always was a button at the top.

LOL – you are correct. I will get used to this just as I am getting used to
the feel of the different home button on the 8 vs the 5. I would still prefer
a My Account tab rather than both a games & arcade tab. That is no doubt my
age showing!

To me it makes little difference whether I have to double tap on an “Update”
tab at the bottom somewhere or the “My Account” button near the top.

I think in a way it makes sense also to put the updates in the same area as
your purchased apps and personalized redcommendations.

When something was the same for years and it then changes it takes a few days
to get used to it and after that you won’t think about it any more unless you
are somebody who dislikes change of any kind as a principle.

That did it. I had touched the screen before swiping. This time I waited to
hear the date & swiped before touching anything.

You would think that something one does fairly frequently like updating apps
would be a tab rather than both games & arcades each having their own tab. Of
course that is only my opinion, worthless as it is to Apple!

Thanks much for the direction.

After going to the App Store, swipe right until you hear “My Account”, double
tap, then touch the screen a little above the home button and you’ll find your
updates including an update all button.

Hello all,

I recently got a new IPhone, an 8. On my old 5S which was still running IOS 12
something, I could update apps by going to the app store, selecting the update
tab at the bottom then selecting update all. Now I go to the app store & there
is no update tab at the bottom. The tabs are Today, Games, Apps, Arcade &
search. I looked around in the Apps, Search & Today tabs but found no way to
do updates. I’m sure I’m missing something obvious. How do I update apps?

Thanks,

Sherry Wells

Re: Transfer music from iPod to iPhone 11

2019-11-25 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi sieghard,

Thanks for the reality check. I was trying to come up with the easiest way to
do it, but of course, what's easy and viable depends on the system you're
working with. Using iCloud is simpler m working with iTunes, but obviously if
it costs a fortune, it's not the way to go.

Best,
Anna

Hi,

You also have the option of removing downloads, so the christmas music won't be
on your phone until you want to put it back next year, but the playlist is
still available to be downloaded next year.

RE: Deleting playlist

2019-11-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I think if you delete it's gone. You might be able to export it and then import
it again, but why bother, it's not like a playlist takes up space/storage, it's
just a tiny file which points to the songs you have on your phone or which you
play via Apple Music.

RE: How to Update Apps in Current Version of IOS

2019-11-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I forget that the triple tap also does what a double tap and hold does or, on
3D touch models, the forced touch.
Anyways, I think it makes little difference if you flick down to context menu
and then double tap or if you triple tap right away, again just a minor change
in doing the same thing which becomes muscle memory quick enough.

RE: Transfer music from iPod to iPhone 11

2019-11-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

2019-11-25 Thread sherrywells1157

Thanks,

RE: How to Update Apps in Current Version of IOS

2019-11-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sherry,

The Today screen is the one which has focus by default.
If I double tap on the App Store, I hear Voiceover saying “Today, Monday,
November 25th, heading”.
If I swipe right once I hear “My Account, button”, just double tap on that.
I have an iPhone 8 as well, if you don’t get this, make sure you are at the
very top by doing a 4-finger single tap in the top half of the screen, that
should put focus on the Today, Monday, November 25 heading.

not have a home tab. The tab to the farthest left is Today & it says one of 5.

I have not tried your second method yet as it does sound like a pain.

What am I doing wrong?

Thanks,

RE: How to Update Apps in Current Version of IOS

2019-11-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Sherry,

I guess I should mention that there is also another way to get to the Updates
screen in the App Store. Some find this easier, I personally don’t since it can
easily involve more gestures, but her eit is:

1. Double tap and hold on the App Store icon, when you let go Voiceover will
say “Dismiss context menu”.
You now have a menu on the screen which, apart from the “Dismiss Context menu”
item contains 6 more items:
App Store – this will simply open the App Store
Search button – this takes you directly where you can search for an app
Redeem button – this will take you to the place where you can redeem a gift card
Updates – this is your Updates area, it will take you to the same screen as
opening the App Store and tapping on My Account
Purchased – this will show you a list of your purchased apps
Edit Home Screen – this is where you hear “started editing” which is if you
want to drag or delete an app.

The Updates, Redeem and Purchased items are also all there in App Store > My
Account
Updates is not a tab any more, it’s part of the My Account screen and it’s a
heading so you could also go to App Store > My Account, turn the rotor to
headings and then swipe down, but I find it easier when I’m there just to touch
maybe an inch or so above the home button, if you are too high you may land on
Add Funds to Apple Id or Personalized Recommendations, in that case just swipe
right once or twice.

Regards,
Sieghard

But if you set up a family group and add her Apple Id she can have access to
all the apps unless some don’t allow family sharing and I have rarely seen any
which don’t and if she buys something it is still charged to your credit card.
This is exactly what family sharing is for, people can have their own Apple Id,
but you can share apps and a payment card yet each person has their own Apple
Id which they can use for Facetime, iMessage or to backup their own stuff and
photos.

She should try to set up her own Apple Id, I assume somehow whatever one
selects on one device is synced to the other device via the Apple Id.
Is there a particular reason why you want to use the same Apple Id on both
devices? In my opinion this is asking for problems if two different people use
the phones.

Hi Folks,

I have quite the quandary. I have two phones, a 6S and an XS, both with my
Apple I.D. on them, however, one is being used by my daughter and has a
completely different number from the 6S, which I am using, also with a
different number.

She currently has an Australian male voice on her Siri, and it’s bled over to
mine.

When I changed it on my phone, it changed on hers. She changed it back to
Australian male, which also made the change on my phone.

Is there a way she can keep her Australian male and I keep my female voice?

The one thing that might be missing here for multiple selections is, yes,
VO-Command-enter is used for multiple selection, but you have to navigate to

RE: Transfer music from iPod to iPhone 11

2019-11-25 Thread Fanus Buys
Hello Anna
Thanks so much but now you must please assist one more time. I connected the
new phone to the pc and in itunes I clicked on the iPhone button and tabbed
through to the "sync" button and pressed enter. After the sync going through
the tabs again it shows 16.8 GB of music but my iTunes music folder on the pc
has 59.9 GB of music. Must I first select the music and then activate the
iPhone button? I do not want to download from iCloud because that 59 GB is more
than my download data package, so its going to cost me a lot, so I would like
to transfer the music via itunes to the phone. Where did I go wrong?

Subject: Re: Transfer music from iPod to iPhone 11

Hi Fanus,

The music on your iPod is, I assume, also in the iTunes library on your
computer. Your best bet would be syncing your iPhone with your computer and
copying the music from your iTunes library to your phone. If your iTunes
library is small enough, you can sync the whole thing with your iPhone. If not,
you can select music in iTunes and choose Add to Device to copy it across.

If you have Apple Music or use iTunes Match, all the music in your iTunes
library is in iCloud, and you can download it from there to your phone when
it's connected to Wi-Fi. Even if you have neither of these services, any music
you have purchased from the iTunes store is available in iCloud to be
downloaded to your phone.

Best,
Anna
