Re: Watch complications

2020-07-07 Thread Marie
Well every other session I have used the same equipment with pretty much the
same speed and heart rate and it has registered all except the one today. So
those qualifications are not the issue. This was actually one of my best and I
had the movement level above other days also and even closed that ring today.
So none of it makes any sense.

Hi

No it’s due to you not having your movement and HR up to the levels they
require to kick the exercise activity to move.

I found that to get it moving up I had to be walking at a pace around the 13 to
14 minutes per Km and with an HR of over 100 bpm.

They must have som equation that works it out.

Can anyone explain the info displayed on the activity complication? I just
finished a 31 minute workout but the complication shows exercising at zero? Is
this possibly because I closed that ring for today?

Please help.Thanks,

Marie

Re: Watch complications

2020-07-07 Thread Marie
Yes I always click on the type of workout and I got the usual alerts during the
time I was exercising. when I go to the activity app on the phone, it shows the
calories burned, so I am stumped right now. In addition, I switched to another
watch face and it also shows zero for exercise. Also the heart rate either
show nothing or voiceover is not reading it. If I go into the app, it shows
current rate and keeps measuring as it should.
I may call Apple Accessibility tomorrow to see if they have more info.

Hello,

Did you select your workout type on the watch itself and start it at the
beginning of your workout?

For example:

I do one hour’s work on my exercise cycle.

So before I start I launch the Workout App on my watch and select Indore Cycle
as my workout type. I have set it to Open Goal. This is so I can cycle as long
as I feel to be appropriate.

So at the commencement of my cycling, I start my workout on my watch. Once
done, I select page one on the Workout app and double-tap End. I then have a
summary of my session. I then double-tap End.

Out of interest, if you launch the Activity App on your iPhone, choose the
Workout Tab and double-tap on today’s workout, what does it say?

Hope this has helped you.

Get back if you have any further questions.

Re: Voice command

2020-07-07 Thread Richard Turner
If the person is a VoiceOver user, Voice Control will probably not make them
hate technology any less.
There are an awful lot of commands to learn, even if they are not a VoiceOver
user, but it also requires a fair amount of patience.
When iOS 13 was in beta, I went through and created a list of all the voice
commands, which is on my web site: www.turner42.com
That should give you some idea.

Richard
"He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass
himself,” and we forget that only grace can break the cycle of ancient hatreds
among peoples. (It is notable that while I have regretted not granting grace to
others, I’ve never once regretted extending it.)" - Edward Herbert

RE: Getting CIRI to understand the difference between an Eye Message and a text message meant for an Android phone

2020-07-07 Thread bentleyj1952
I don't want to tie up this list with repetitive thank you's but it was
extremely helpful for me to be able to send text messages to family and friends
who use Android phones. Getting that message failure notice was getting old.

I won't post any more on this particular subject unless some one else needs
help with the same problem.

This is a good list.

Enabling send as sms fixed the problem.

I wonder why Apple doesn’t have this turned on by default.

I’m sure glad it is now working right.

Many thanks for the directions.

Have you tried enabling send as sms? Enabling send as sms will allow messages
to be sent when imesssage is unavailable. To enable this settings, messages.
Next swipe until you find send as sms and then double tap to turn on this
setting.

Re: Watch complications

2020-07-07 Thread Ann Byrne
A couple of things to remember. If you are walking, your arm has to
be moving. On the treadmill, for example, with your hands on the
rests, the watch doesn't know you're walking. With a shopping cart,
the same. When I tread I keep my phone in my pocket so I can have my
hands on the grips. Otherwise, my body knows I exercised but the
watch hasn't a clue.

Same on a bike.

when we do high intensity interval workouts with the trainer, I turn
on a third-party app to track the workout. Otherwise the watch
activity doesn't recognize it. When you reach your goal, it won't go
to zero; it will just add to 100%.

good luck!

Re: Watch complications

2020-07-07 Thread Malcolm Parfitt

Home quest

2020-07-07 Thread regina alvarado
Hi, On the Applevis newsletter there was a game called Home Quest. I know from
looking in different places that people are playing it successfully. So, I must
be the dumbest player ever to try this game! Can anyone get me started on the
game please? I understand what I am supposed to do just not how to achieve it.
Everything is grayed out, and what workers and population I have inadvertently
gotten are starving. Please be specific on what I need to do. Thanks for
helping me save my game.

Next swipe until you find send as sms and then double tap to turn on this
setting.

RE: Getting CIRI to understand the difference between an Eye Message and a text message meant for an Android phone

2020-07-07 Thread bentleyj1952
Enabling send as sms fixed the problem.

I wonder why Apple doesn’t have this turned on by default.

I’m sure glad it is now working right.

Many thanks for the directions.

Have you tried enabling send as sms? Enabling send as sms will allow messages
to be sent when imesssage is unavailable. To enable this settings, messages.
Next swipe until you find send as sms and then double tap to turn on this
setting.

Re: audible books on mp3 players

2020-07-07 Thread Marie
I tried to download the Open Audible program and either Defender or the Edge
browser, stopped it saying it was potentially harmful to my system? I
aborted the download. These days, it is too easy to get crap so it is not
worth the risk to me.

Hi Joshua. as far as i know. It is still available, on the net but It can be
hard to find.

There is also a program, called, open audible, which does much the same
thing.

It was actually taken off the internet a couple years ago. It is one
single program as I still have the EXE file for the latest version
that was released. I don't think it is being developed any more. I
have also been using the program for years as well with no viruses on
my system because of it.

Plus it is a combination of utilities with no accountable source

You'd be kind of out of luck unless you could convert your audible
books to
mp3 so they would then play on the first gen stream.

Agreed, but for some people, the fact that the enhanced files take
almost twice the memory, it causes a storage issue.

I've used the enhanced mode since it became available because of the
quality of the sound.

But, I also do not save everything on my personal storage, I leave it
in the Amazon cloud.

To turn on notification so you know when a facebook page gos live, go to the
facebook page that you are following. Next choose go to more. Next choose
following. After choosing more, make sure that the get notifications setting
is turned on. If you need to change notifications settings for that specific
page, go to edit notifications settings under following, and then choose either
standard or highlights. When a notification from your church arrives
indicating that they are live, you can go to the notifications tab and then
double tap on the notification. After double tapping on the notification, the
live video should start.

Yes, iMessages are unique to Apple, and so logically, SMS is regular text
messages as it has been around since texting began.

That is a good example of how influential Apple has become.

Personally, since not everyone owns Apple products, I’d never turn off SMS, but
there are situations where SMS cost people as much as 25¢ Per text, which can
get very pricy fast as much as people are texting these days.

I’m glad my provider doesn’t charge for texting. Some still do.

I know this doesn’t help, but I just found it interesting that someone thinks
of iMsgs as regular text messages, as opposed to SMS which are ubiquitous and
have been around longer then Apple’s proprietary messaging service.

30 days. I'm hoping that's the case. Thank you for your help. Esther

If you double-tap SMS, it will turn on; it is a toggle. It won't prevent your
i-messages, only, as Richard says, will enable you to text to other phones.

I have struggled with this problem and had some luck with saying Siri, Send
text message to 919-xxx, and mostly it gets there to my friend with an
Android.

I have another friend who had an iPhone, never could work with the thing, got
some trade off the thing and bought a Kyocera Dura. So I say, Siri send to
friend's iPhone, and away it goes! Bigger than life! She gets it. I just never

Well, my computer blocked the download because it says it can harm my

Since I am not a technician of any kind, I take that to mean that Microsoft

Not sure exactly where to go from here.

That must be because you got it before it got spread around through the various
torrent sites that are known for hiding trojan viruses in their executable
files.
So, since it is no longer being developed, it should not be recommended.
Too many novices will grab something and end up with a virus in their computer.
Just my opinion.

OK, I decided to look into Open audible.
Well, my computer blocked the download because it says it can harm my computer.

Since I am not a technician of any kind, I take that to mean that Microsoft
thinks it contains issues if not viruses.
Not sure exactly where to go from here.

It was actually taken off the internet a couple years ago. It is one
single program as I still have the EXE file for the latest version
that was released. I don't think it is being developed any more. I
have also been using the program for years as well with no viruses on
my system because of it.

I'm glad it has worked for people, but no one has bothered to give a source.

Hi Richard. With total respect, what you have heard is nonsense.

I know many people, who convert there books to mp3, using the inaudible
program. and they have done so, for many years, without any issues.

A lot of people, have expensive, dedicated book players, like the victor

If they wish to play their books, on their devices, then they have no choice
but to convert them.

all the best,

Re: audible books on mp3 players

2020-07-07 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Thanks for the article on best audible converters. However, don't buy
the Epubor program. I just spent $31 and it isn't very screenreader
accessible and it doesn't work all that well like it claims. I tried
converting an audible book and it didn't even convert the entire book.
Only a portion of it. I'm going to see if I can get my money back.

Agreed, but for some people, the fact that the enhanced files take
almost twice the memory, it causes a storage issue.

I've used the enhanced mode since it became available because of the
 quality of the sound.

But, I also do not save everything on my personal storage, I leave it
 in the Amazon cloud.

RE: Getting CIRI to understand the difference between an Eye Message and a text message meant for an Android phone

2020-07-07 Thread Richard Turner

RE: audible books on mp3 players

2020-07-07 Thread Richard Turner
That must be because you got it before it got spread around through the various
torrent sites that are known for hiding trojan viruses in their executable
files.
So, since it is no longer being developed, it should not be recommended.
Too many novices will grab something and end up with a virus in their computer.
Just my opinion.

Everything I've read says it is not just one program, but you have to put
together several pieces.
Could you say more and give a resource?

RE: Getting CIRI to understand the difference between an Eye Message and a text message meant for an Android phone

2020-07-07 Thread Richard Turner
If you do not want to send as SMS, i.e. never send a text to an Android user,
go to settings, messages, and turn off send as SMS.
So, you will only be able to send iMessages between Apple device users.
If you ever want to send pictures or audio files, you need to still turn on
send as MMS.

RE: audible books on mp3 players

2020-07-07 Thread Richard Turner
Since this is a hot topic right now, I did some investigating about converting
audible books to other formats.
Someone had mentioned something called Inaudible. I would recommend against
that because it is not a program as such and is apparently prone to be a
mechanism for infecting machines with trojan viruses. Plus it is a combination
of utilities with no accountable source according to a couple articles I've
read.

Here is a link to an article from February of this year on 5 different options
for audible book conversion.
I have no idea if any of this will work, but just offer it as a potential
resource.
I have probably all the books I will be buying from audible in my Audible
library.
Here is the link.

You'd be kind of out of luck unless you could convert your audible books to mp3
so they would then play on the first gen stream.

You'd be kind of out of luck unless you could convert your audible
books to mp3 so they would then play on the first gen stream.

I don't get the big deal it's another format you download it works. I
could maybe understand if enhanced didn't work but it does work just
fine.

So it format for is discontinued does that mean that you won’t be able to
play audiobooks that you previously downloaded in that format or is it
just

me you won’t be able to download future audiobooks in that format I was
under the impression that you could still listen to the audio for format
books that you had previously downloaded

Yes, but if he is downloading all of his books to a computer or just
storing them on a device then he will have to redownload all previously
downloaded books to read them in the inhanced format.

I am going to keep downloading in format 4 for as long as I possibly
can. I wish when I began with audible, that I had used enhanced, but
I didn't do that. Its five years to late to change at this point

It really does make a difference between format 4 and enhanced. Yes,
I know that enhanced does sound a bit better, but I like format 4
because it is smaller. I just today downloaded a 3 book series that
in format 4 was around one gig in size. If I had downloaded this book
in the enhanced format, it would have been 2 gigs. Saving an entire
gig when I downloaded my 3 books isn't insignificant.

preferable

them
on
an MP3 player.

Hi!!
I used to have an iphone 5s with only 16 gigs of memory too.
I would just download the books I wanted to listen to and then delete
them
back off of the device. They just remain in the cloud until you
download
them again.
However, it is possible to download the books on to an mp 3 player.
However,
you have to have one that can read protected files, maybe an ipod or
victor
streme or something along those lines. Otherwise, you are going to
have
to
convert the files in to a non-protected format. I think you need
special
software to do this. Anyway, in order to download the files, you need
to
download the audible software and then you just go to your library on
the
audible website and download the items. Then you open the audible
software
and copy the books from there and copy them to your player.
If you need help, you can always call audible, they are always very
helpful
and can walk you through the process.
Oh one more thing, you could also use a kindle fire tablet, it has an
audible app preinstalled on it and its accessible, and very
affordable.
You
could download store and listen to audible books there with ease.

Hi all,

My question is this, is it possible to save the Audible books on an
mp3
player instead of on my Six? If so how do I do this? I looked on the
Audible site and can't find any info about doing this.

Getting CIRI to understand the difference between an Eye Message and a text message meant for an Android phone

2020-07-07 Thread bentleyj1952
Hi all,

I have sent several messages to a friend who uses an Android phone by saying
to Ciri,
"send text to Jessica's mobil.

Then, I get a message failure notification. When I look, I discover that
Ciri sent an Eye Message instead of a text message.

I've tried using the lady's first name. Her first and last name, and just
her 7 and 10 digit phone number. I'm out of ideas.

Can any one make a suggestion?

Many thanks,

James B
