New Charger From Anker for My iPhone8 &5s?

2020-11-03 Thread Fazil
Hi, Group.

I purchased a new charger from Amazon by Anker.

I noticed that the phones charge relatively fast but the batteries drain
quickly too. Is this normal behavior?

Thanks!

Re: step-by-step instructions for using ABC groups

2020-11-03 Thread Richard Turner
Yes.
You can create as many groups as you wish just by giving them different names.
When you save a group name, you will be asked if you want to add contacts right
then or not.
When you double tap on a contact, it should say selected.
Just keep adding contacts to a group until you are done and hit the done or
save, whatever it says at that point.
Then , when you open a group, at the bottom of the screen you can choose to
send email or messages, and just follow the screens.
It is relatively straight forward.

Richard
"He that cannot forgive others breaks the bridge over which he must pass
himself,” and we forget that only grace can break the cycle of ancient hatreds
among peoples. (It is notable that while I have regretted not granting grace to
others, I’ve never once regretted extending it.)" - Edward Herbert

Re: Challenging Gesture Games

2020-11-03 Thread Traci Duncan
Ages ago this app was accessible. Once you got it set up you would turn off
voiceover if I remember correctly. I have not played it in years.

The App Store shows this version and a light version. So I’m not sure if back
in the day I paid for it.

An Email Address Through Apple?

2020-11-03 Thread Arnold Schmidt
It use to be called me.com, but I think that has gone away. What is it called
now, and how do I set up an email address using it? I thought it was through
icloud.com, but I could not find it when I went to icloud. Thanks for any
information. I know I can just set up another gmail address to use as my apple
ID, but I wouldn't mind having an address through apple. It won't let me use
this address because I have it listed as my alternate address, and even when I
delete it as my alternate, it still won't let me use it. I called Apple, and he
couldn't figure out why it wouldn't let me, either. Whatever.

Yeah it would be an interesting system.

I’m concerned that as a kiwi the price for such a device is going to be way out
of the average persons price range,
Yet with luck apple will make such a device fully accessible to us with visual
disabilities to the point that we could somewhat get away without using caines

Oh what a dream I have.

I think they're getting all their AI and features ready for Apple Glass. After
all, it'd be really cool to get real-time "image recognition" from apple Glass,
maybe paired with the iPhone still, but it'd still be amazing!

This feature doesn't have to just be used while you're walking around. It can
be used when you're sitting in a restaurant or standing in a line. Plus,
there's just something to be said for getting a new feature like this out into
the wild before every scenario has been addressed. Let those who can use it
start using it while others figure out how to take advantage of a new
innovative feature.

Re: Airplay music experience and advice

2020-11-03 Thread Traci Duncan
so, interestingly I just connected my iPad to the Amazon echo via Bluetooth.
this is the first time I’ve connected the iPad like this, and the first time
since the latest iOS update. voiceover did stay on my iPad, so that was cool.
However, there was some odd behaviors. voiceover is volume initially shot up.
It quickly went back down. I learned control in the volume in the control
center, it’s not the best way. This adjusted the volume on my iPad. Also when I
was in the control center, my iPad screen went a little weird. as I said, this
is my first time connecting to the smart speaker via Bluetooth, on this
specific device. So maybe these things were flukes. I’ll play around with it a
little bit more.

We like to play music games in this household. We will pick a music theme, and
then take turns going back-and-forth playing the song to match the theme. I was
hoping that AirPlay would be the fastest way to switch back-and-forth. Also we
have a little senior dog who has decided she hates when we speak to the smart
speakers. Lol!

Thanks for the advice,
Traci

 Hi all,

I’m interested in airplaying music. What has been your experience with
this? Ease of use, apps that support it, etc. Does VoiceOver stay with
your device, instead of going to the speaker? What if two people are
taking turns playing music, is it seamless for them to do this via airplay?

Then, any speaker recommendations? Right now, the Sonos 1 seems to be the
 strongest contender.

 Thanks,

Hello,

A few weeks ago someone posted an email to the list featuring some links to a
large selection of sound files in iOS format (.M4R.) Think they shared the
files on their iCloud account.

Is it possible to get a repost of those links? Can't seem to locate that
particular list email on my PC.

Thanks.

Re: Airplay music experience and advice

2020-11-03 Thread Mary Otten
With airplay, voiceover stays on the phone always. At least, that has been my
experience. With Bluetooth, apparently it can be different depending on I’m not
sure what. I don’t tend to do that, but I know plenty of people were upset with
a change which I guess happened in iOS 13, where Bluetooth would leave
voiceover on the phone. But then apparently sometimes, it goes to the speaker.
As I say, since I’ve never use that, I didn’t really follow the discussions
that much.

Re: Email dictation and voiceover problem

2020-11-03 Thread Richard Turner
Hi James
I am dictating this in response to your message.
You had one line that repeated.
I suspect if you're allowing voiceover to hear what it says when you're
dictating, it will repeat it because it's hearing it twice.
I am using the two finger double tap to start dictation rather than just using
Siri to reply. It doesn't seem to be repeating, but we'll see.

Re: Airplay music experience and advice

2020-11-03 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Tracy,
You can use what is called screen mirroring to go to an Airplay device, so
anything you are playing on your phone, no matter the source, will play on the
airplay device.
I'm assuming here that the Home Pod has airplay.
They also have Siri built-in, so all voice commands are available.
As for privacy, I would assume, and I am assuming this, that the only person
whose info you have access to is the person who is signed in.
I would check with Apple directly to make sure about all this.

My Onkyo receiver works with Airplay, so I just use it.
I can also airplay to the TV for those who want to at least see the titles and
the TV sound goes through the stereo.

I've not heard either the Sonos or the Home Pods so have no personal

Then, any speaker recommendations? Right now, the Sonos 1 seems to be the

Re: Fun apps and games for the Apple Watch three

2020-11-03 Thread Wayne Merritt
I think you can add music, but you need a Bluetooth accessory to
listen to it. Unfortunately, the watch does not natively play music
without Bluetooth. I wish it did, but then again, the speaker is so
small that perhaps it is good it does not. However, if you are playing
music on your iPhone, you can control music playback from the watch
through the now playing utility.

Best,
Wayne Merritt

RE: Airplay music experience and advice

2020-11-03 Thread Richard Turner
If it is using Airplay, and not just Bluetooth, VoiceOver for sure stays with
the device.
Have you looked at the Apple Home Pods?
My Onkyo receiver works with Airplay, so I just use it.
I can also airplay to the TV for those who want to at least see the titles and
the TV sound goes through the stereo.

I've not heard either the Sonos or the Home Pods so have no personal
recommendations there other than checking out features and price.

Subject: Airplay music experience and advice

Hi all,

I’m interested in airplaying music. What has been your experience with this?
Ease of use, apps that support it, etc. Does VoiceOver stay with your device,
instead of going to the speaker? What if two people are taking turns playing
music, is it seamless for them to do this via airplay?

Then, any speaker recommendations? Right now, the Sonos 1 seems to be the
strongest contender.

Thanks,
Traci

Re: iPhones can now tell blind users where and how far away people are

2020-11-03 Thread Devin Prater
I think they're getting all their AI and features ready for Apple Glass.
After all, it'd be really cool to get real-time "image recognition" from
apple Glass, maybe paired with the iPhone still, but it'd still be amazing!
