I’ve always known that Alt=Command, and Option?where the Windows key would be
between Command and Control, or in some keyboards like on my Elle-Gate, you’ve
the Command or Alt, going left Option or Windows, another left Function, and
the most-left one, is the Control key. Good luck!

The Control+Omtion combo is the VO one: Option is the same as the Windows key

It sounds like you could have turned on the new, useless, screen recongnition

Or, you got braille screen input on.
I doubt it has to do with Voice Control; but who knows.
I'm not sure what the chirping sound is but it sounds like something being

Best of luck.

I know nothing about printing text messages, but emails are pretty straight

Open the email.
Double tap on More Actions.
Flick through about all of the options until you get to print.
Then it depends on your printer what you do next.

RE: configuring an iphone for a new user

2021-05-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain
This is definitely true for the iPhones with the LCD displays where the screens
are backlit. Theoretically, this may help battery consumption on iPhones with
the LED displays, where diodes are turned off when dark. I’m not aware of any

These are all good suggestions. However, screen curtain does not actually help
conserve battery life; all it does is blacken the screen by coloring it
black--not actually turn off the display. To conserve battery by turning off
the screen, you'd need to turn down the brightness. I have turned off
auto-brightness and set brightness to 0 in settings. If I need someone sighted
to look at my phone, I use the brightness slider in control panel to turn up
the brightness to 20-30%. This brightness level is usually sufficient for most
sighted individuals.

Volume buttons or add "volume" to the rotor

6. Set SIRI options to display its responses and your spoken inputs. This will
help the student while learning to use SIRI.

7. If cell service is available, set the phone option to use "full screen" for
calls. This avoids the difficulties for beginners in dealing with the one-line

8. Initially, set typing style to "standard" when working with the on-screen

introduce the other typing styles.

Settings / Accessibility / Voiceover / typing / typing style

There are likely other settings one could adjust. Much depends on the model of

Richard,

I’m sitting here writing on a mac book air running windows 10

Remember that on the mac keyboard
The layout from left to right on the bottom row,

Fn, ctrl,alt (option), command (windows),

If this was a windows keyboard then you could have only 3 keys on the bottom
row,
That would be CTRL, widnows key, alt,
Some windows machines have 4 keys and can be either,

Ctrl, fn, windows, alt,

Or fn, ctrl windows, alt.

What I’d suggest you do on your Logitech keyboard is to put it / the device in
to keyboard help mode and then press the keys to know which one is which,

Well, this is me writing on the Logitech K860 Ergonomic keyboard which is
designed first for Windows I believe.
So, for me, using this on my iPhone, Windows key equals options. Alt key
equals command.
I demonstrated that to myself by using the next or prior word command which is
options plus left or right arrow when quickNav is off.
Writing this email, If I press Windows Key plus left or right arrow I move by
word.
If I press alt plus left or right arrow, nothing happens.

So I guess it is really important to know if they are using a Apple keyboard
with Windows, or a Windows keyboard with an Apple device.
It is lovely how confusing this can be.

Sure.
Control key is always Control whether on Windows, Mac, or iOS.
I always thought Alt was Options, but it is probably Command, and Windows
equals Options.
So, windows+control+spacebar would be the VO command for double tap.

Subject: Understanding VO Commands on a QWERTY

Hi, can someone please take me back to fundamentals and help me understand what
makes up a VO command on a QWERTY keyboard? I recently tested a Mantis Q40
where the bottom row of keys was: Left CTRL, Function, Windows, and Left Alt.

Now, if I'm understanding correctly, the CTRL is called the Command key in
Apple world. The Alt key is called Option. I thought using Command plus Option
made up the VO key.

Yet, earlier today I was reading an article where it said you should use
Command with VO to perform certain functions. So, maybe I am completely off. I
find navigating with VO on a keyboard more difficult than it needs to be. Now,
I did switch the VO key to my Caps key in iOS, but I don't like feeling dumb

Re: Understanding VO Commands on a QWERTY

2021-05-13 Thread Richard Turner

Hi, can someone please take me back to fundamentals and help me understand what
makes up a VO command on a QWERTY keyboard? I recently tested a Mantis Q40

Now, if I'm understanding correctly, the CTRL is called the Command key in

Yet, earlier today I was reading an article where it said you should use

Actually, EyeNote will work.
It may take some extra trials and errors but I got it working on my SE 2020
with iOS 14.5.1.
Try this.
Delete the ap.
Reboot your phone.
Download the app again.
Before opening the app, go to settings, eyenote, and give it permission to use
the camera.
Then, run the app.
See if it works then.

I used to have seeing AI, but I could never get the currency app to read.

And if you want to save yourself some time, you can ask Siri to set the screen

These are all good suggestions. However, screen curtain does not actually help
conserve battery life; all it does is blacken the screen by coloring it
black--not actually turn off the display. To conserve battery by turning off
the screen, you'd need to turn down the brightness. I have turned off
auto-brightness and set brightness to 0 in settings. If I need someone sighted
to look at my phone, I use the brightness slider in control panel to turn up
the brightness to 20-30%. This brightness level is usually sufficient for most
sighted individuals.

Thanks,

5. If Voiceover is being used, set the Voiceover volume so both the instructor

using a splitter so two sets of earpods or headphones can be used at the same

6. Set SIRI options to display its responses and your spoken inputs. This will
help the student while learning to use SIRI.

Settings / SIRI & Search / SIRI Responses

7. If cell service is available, set the phone option to use "full screen" for
calls. This avoids the difficulties for beginners in dealing with the one-line
display mode on calls.

Settings / Phone / Incoming calls

8. Initially, set typing style to "standard" when working with the on-screen
keyboard. Once the student is comfortable with the on-screen keyboard you can
introduce the other typing styles.

Settings / Accessibility / Voiceover / typing / typing style

There are likely other settings one could adjust. Much depends on the model of
phone, the IOS version, the usage the student will make of the phone, and their
current level of knowledge / skill with it.

Now,
I did switch the VO key to my Caps key in iOS, but I don't like feeling dumb

could enlighten me, I would be very appreciative.

Thanks,

The Control+Omtion combo is the VO one: Option is the same as the Windows key
on the Pc keyboard; whereas the ALT is the Command key. Hope this helps!

Understanding VO Commands on a QWERTY

2021-05-13 Thread Joe Orozco
Hi, can someone please take me back to fundamentals and help me
understand what makes up a VO command on a QWERTY keyboard? I recently
tested a Mantis Q40 where the bottom row of keys was: Left CTRL,
Function, Windows, and Left Alt.

Now, if I'm understanding correctly, the CTRL is called the Command
key in Apple world. The Alt key is called Option. I thought using
Command plus Option made up the VO key.

Yet, earlier today I was reading an article where it said you should
use Command with VO to perform certain functions. So, maybe I am
completely off. I find navigating with VO on a keyboard more difficult
than it needs to be. Now, I did switch the VO key to my Caps key in
iOS, but I don't like feeling dumb about how to manipulate my phone
using the traditional VO keys. If someone could enlighten me, I would
be very appreciative.

Thanks,

Joe

Yes, I forgot, set brightness to auto.
Life is easier that way.

OK, Set your brightness to anything you want, even 100%.
Turn on the Screen curtain.
Wait about 10 minutes or so.
Without turning off screen brightness, go into the settings and see what it is
showing.

It will be 0%.

So, if turning the brightness down manually saves battery, letting screen
curtain do that for you will save battery. Plus, as soon as you turn off
screen curtain, a sighted person can see the screen without you having to
fiddle with anything.

I’ve done this on at least 10 phones with various people.

Ari

1. Turn on "Do Not DisturB". This will prevent notifications from disturbing
the class. If your phone also had cell service, it would prevent phone calls
from disturbing you as well.

Settings / Do Not Disturb

2. Turn off "Autolock" by setting it to "never". This prevents the student's
phone from locking every few minutes while in the class.

Settings / Display & Brightness / Autolock

Note - you may want to reset these two items after the class if the student
will be taking the phone away with them.

3. If the student is a Voiceover-only user, turn on the "screen curtain" to
save some battery usage.

3-finger tripple tap

4. If Voiceover is being used, make sure "hints" are turned on.

Settings / Accessibility / Voiceover / Verbosity / Speak hints

5. If Voiceover is being used, set the Voiceover volume so both the instructor
and the student can hear it. If in an area where you need to be quiet, consider
using a splitter so two sets of earpods or headphones can be used at the same
time.

Volume buttons or add "volume" to the rotor

6. Set SIRI options to display its responses and your spoken inputs. This will
help the student while learning to use SIRI.

2021-05-13 Thread Julian
Actually, I believe as of either iOS 11 or 12, turning on the screen curtain
will automatically dim your screen brightness down to zero as long as you have
auto brightness enabled. So, it does help to save on battery life.

Re: configuring an iphone for a new user

2021-05-13 Thread englishrider91
These are all good suggestions. However, screen curtain does not actually help
conserve battery life; all it does is blacken the screen by coloring it
black--not actually turn off the display. To conserve battery by turning off
the screen, you'd need to turn down the brightness. I have turned off
auto-brightness and set brightness to 0 in settings. If I need someone sighted
to look at my phone, I use the brightness slider in control panel to turn up
the brightness to 20-30%. This brightness level is usually sufficient for most
sighted individuals.

Thanks,
Ari

I use Eyenote on 14.5.1 and it has always worked beautifully.

For some reason, Eye note will not read money using iOS 14.5.1.
I used to have seeing AI, but I could never get the currency app to read.

Yes, firstly choose your device in your case the XR.

Then browse to the files you want to transfer select as required. Select OK
then you need to select the Convert and Transfer button for the files to be
copied over.

Once you have chosen your media to transfer, make sure you hit the Convert
and Transfer button.

This is an extra step as you can transfer media to other apps.

Hello,
When you are trying to broadcast to other devices, are you trying to
do this over wifi? If so, wifi needs to still be enabled in settings
in order to broadcast to the device.
Also, I would confirm that Hotspot is a feature that your carrier plan
supports.

I also use cash app... I don't have a subscription either... was just looking
at the app to see if I could tell what you were refering to and couldn't find
anything? I'm sorry this isn't helpful.

Transfer button.

This is an extra step as you can transfer media to other apps.

iPhone 12 pro an hotspot

2021-05-13 Thread Robbie Miller
Hello all,

I have an iPhone 12 Pro, and after turning on my hotspot, I can't get my
hotspot to broadcast to other devices.

What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone give me instructions on how to turn on my hotspot . I want to
connect my laptop to my hotspot.

Voiceover says its on, but my laptop does not see it.

Thanks for any help.

Robbie
