RE: How can I answer the phone with gloves on?

2021-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Maybe it can, I rarely ever use Alexa for a regular phone call because at least
the last time I tried which I admit probably is a year ago, the call quality
was not nearly as good as that of Google. Despite the fact that I have fiber
internet with usually a 4 or 5 millisecond latency and a fairly fast download
speed and more than sufficient upload speed, Alexa calls always seem to be
plagued with delays and echoes when I use it to call a regular phone number.
Using the Drop In feature seems to work fine.

Well I wonder I bet and I’m thinking out loud here but Alexa could probably do
the same thing that you just described I know I’ve joined zoom meetings that
way with my Echo Dot third generation in the past just to see if it would work.
It is a shame that Siri doesn’t do this as for your example. Not every
assistant is created equal that’s for sure. :-) Have a great day!

RE: please do really not update to the latest google version v 185.0

2021-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
What exactly are the issues supposed to be? I saw a google update earlier and
just went back into my App Store app and checked and it is version 185.0.
However, when I opened Google on my iPhone 11 (I use iOS 15.1) everything is as
always, I have a search box, a button for voice search and then the weather and
a bunch of cards with all sorts of news and stuff and Voiceover reads
everything just as it always has.

Hi folks

I live in belgium and google can nolonger be used with voiceover maybe there
are also problems without voiceover but if you are really every day using
google, please do not update the app.

RE: apple watch

2021-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, the watch knows if you wear it or not. When you first put it on and if you
set a passcode you have to enter that or you can set it to unlock when you
unlock your iPhone, once that is done you don't have to enter a passcode as
long as it stays on your wrist, but as soon as you take it off you have to
unlock it again.
Also, if you use Apple Pay on the watch and you have unlocked it before, then
all you have to do is double press the side button (the flat one, not the
digital crown) and your wallet coms up, you hold the watch up to the card
terminal and it will authorize, no extra entry of the passcode is required.

You’ve just mentioned something I’m always thinking to ask,

If the watch isn’t on it wont ring, at least I don’t think it does,

But if you put it on,
It does,

Or with anything relating to the watch, that
Or is the back of the watch sensitive to the arm being securely attached.

Hi Richard,

You can also do this on the iPhone, but as I said in my reply to Doug who in a
different thread recommended this feature I caution people about this feature
because it will answer whether you want or not. In the case of the Apple Watch
it may not do so if you are not wearing the watch, but if you enable this on
your iPhone for example and don't actively hang up the other person may not
hang up either and continue to listen or maybe your phone is not really close
and you don't hear it ringing which could especially happen if you have it set
to mute and then again the call will be answered and if you have a conversation
going or maybe are in some other situation where you really don't want somebody
to hear what is going on then you have no control over this. I have used this
feature occasionally like for example if I was maybe expecting a call but I was
doing something where my hands were dirty or occupied like cooking, woodworking
or digging in my garden, but I really make sure I turn this off again right
away when I don't need it any more.

OK, this is the second time this week already I get to eat my words.

I guess either things changed withWatchOS 8 or I was accidentally hitting the
answer call button when I thought I was doing a two finger double tap.

IN look through the settings, I did discover something else that is possible to
set up.

You can set the Apple Watch to answer automatically after a set number of
seconds.
ON the Apple Watch, check under Settings, Accessibility and flick to Auto
Answer Calls.
Turn it on by double tapping with one finger a couple of times as the first one
opens the setting, then the next turns it on. Then, there is a scroll bar that
probably defaults to 5% which when you flick once more says 3 seconds.
Go back to that scroll bar and flick up I checked it out up to 50% which was
about 30 seconds.
Anyway, not something I will use unless I know my hands are going to be busy
doing dishes or something, then it might be a good thing to set.

Sorry for the misinformation.

I solved this problem by using fingerless gloves or mittens. They are
available in a fariety of styles. You can find them with finger tips
exposed, or with flaps that go over the fingers when you’re wanting them
covered. I made mine as mittens so that they are long enough to cover the
fingertips, but the end is open just enough that I can slip them pack to
expose the fingertips as needed.

Yeah I'd love to but we're not allowed to go anywhere currently unless we pay
to be locked up for a couple of weeks on arrival there.

I solved this problem by using fingerless gloves or mittens. They are
available in a fariety of styles. You can find them with finger tips exposed,
or with flaps that go over the fingers when you’re wanting them covered. I
made mine as mittens so that they are long enough to cover the fingertips, but
the end is open just enough that I can slip them pack to expose the fingertips
as needed.

RE: apple watch

You’ve just mentioned something I’m always thinking to ask,

If the watch isn’t on it wont ring, at least I don’t think it does,

But if you put it on,
It does,

Or with anything relating to the watch, that
Or is the back of the watch sensitive to the arm being securely attached.

Subject: RE: apple watch

Apple Watch Gestures from Apple Support

2021-11-10 Thread Richard Turner
Use VoiceOver on Apple Watch

VoiceOver helps you use your Apple Watch even if you can't see the display. Use
simple gestures to move around the screen and listen as VoiceOver speaks each
item you select.

Turn VoiceOver on or off

1. Open the Settings app [cid:image001.png@01D7D637.D32E2100] on your
Apple Watch.

2. Go to Accessibility > VoiceOver, then turn on VoiceOver.

To turn VoiceOver off, double-tap the VoiceOver button.

Ask Siri. "Turn VoiceOver on" or "Turn VoiceOver off."

You can also use your iPhone to turn on VoiceOver for your Apple Watch-open the
Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch, go to Accessibility, then tap the
VoiceOver option. Or, use the Accessibility
Shortcut.

Use VoiceOver for setup

VoiceOver can help you set up your Apple Watch-triple-click the Digital Crown
during setup. For step-by-step instructions, see Set up Apple Watch using
VoiceOver.

VoiceOver gestures

Use these gestures to control your Apple Watch with VoiceOver.

*Explore the screen: Move your finger around on the display and listen
as the name of each item you touch is spoken. You can also tap with one finger
to select an item, or swipe left or right with one finger to select an adjacent
item. Swipe left or right, up or down with two fingers to see other pages.

*Go back: If you've gone down a path you didn't expect, do a two-finger
scrub: use two fingers to trace a "z" shape on the display.

*Act on an item: With VoiceOver on, use a double tap instead of a
single tap to open an app, switch an option, or perform any action that would
normally be done with a tap. Select an app icon, list item, or option switch by
tapping it or swiping to it, then double-tap to perform its action. For
example, to turn VoiceOver off, select the VoiceOver button, then double-tap
anywhere on the display.

*Perform additional actions: Some items offer several actions-listen
for "actions available" when you select an item. Swipe up or down to choose an
action, then double-tap to perform it.

*Pause reading: To have VoiceOver stop reading, tap the display with
two fingers. Tap again with two fingers to resume.

*Adjust VoiceOver volume: Double-tap and hold with two fingers, then
slide up or down. Or, open the Apple Watch app on your iPhone, tap My Watch,
then go to Accessibility > VoiceOver and drag the slider.

Use the VoiceOver rotor

You can use the rotor to change VoiceOver settings and jump from one item to
the next on the screen. On Apple Watch, you can use the rotor to choose Words,
Characters, Actions, Headings, Volume, and Speaking Rate.

When VoiceOver is turned on, rotate two fingers on your screen as if you're
turning a dial. VoiceOver speaks the rotor setting. Keep rotating your fingers
to hear more settings. Stop rotating your fingers when you hear the setting you
want.

Use these gestures with the rotor.

Action

Gesture

Choose a rotor setting

Rotate two fingers

Move to the previous item or increase (depending on the rotor setting)

Swipe up

Move to the next item or decrease (depending on the rotor setting)

Swipe down

Adjust VoiceOver settings

You can adjust VoiceOver behaviors from your Apple Watch. Open the Settings app
[cid:image001.png@01D7D637.D32E2100] on your Apple Watch, go to Accessibility
> VoiceOver, then do any of the following:

*Turn off VoiceOver

*Adjust the speaking rate

*Adjust VoiceOver volume

*Turn Haptics on or off

*Use your current Siri voice for VoiceOver

*Set Braille options

Tap Braille, then choose options for Braille output, Braille input, word wrap,
alert display duration, and Braille tables.

*Turn off VoiceOver hints

*Navigate with the Digital Crown

*Hear the time when you raise your wrist

*Turn on Screen Curtain, which turns off the display for privacy when
using VoiceOver

*Speak seconds

*Choose rotor languages

*Configure Hand
Gestures

You can find these same options on your iPhone. Open the Apple Watch app, tap
My Watch, then go to Accessibility > VoiceOver.

RE: How can I answer the phone with gloves on?

I wonder if the call was answered by a real person they would hear the

I actually just tried this with My Bank of Montreal Mastercard/online banking
line.

First when I asked Google Assistant to call the toll free number I was asked to
Press 1 for English, 2 For French and 3 for Mandarin Chinese (of course both
French and Chinese announcements were made in the respective languages).

So I said "Hey Google press 1", at one point I said "Hey Google Dial 1" and I
guess I was not speaking clearly and also was not so close so Google thought I
said not "Dial 1" but "Taiwan" and Google promptly proceeded to tell me what
Wikipedia had to say about the country of Taiwan. When it was done my phone
call came back so apparently you can fully use the Google Assistant during a
call, but of course it puts the call on hold or in the background or whatever.

Anyhow, after I said "Press 1" and the English menu came up, I was asked to
enter my 16-digit Mastercard number. Just for the fun of it and not expecting
this would work I said "Hey Google Press 5524 8900 and so on" sorry, I won't
give out my entire credit card number 

I spoke the number quite quickly and without pauses and to my surprise after a
few seconds of waiting I was asked "To verify your identy, please enter your
birth month, for example if you were born in January enter 01 or if you were
born in December enter 12". I again asked Google to enter the digits, this also
worked and I was asked to enter the day of my birthdate which I asked Google to
do and after that I was in and had the next set of choices like Press 1 for
your current balance, press 2 for a list of your most recent transactions etc.

So, obviously this is technically possible, but Apple just has not made their
very expensive hardware and SIRI smart enough to do this whereas my $49 Google
Mini speaker can do it. So much for the incredible advantage Apple says they
have by having full control over both hardware and software.

Any Google Home speaker can take voice input during a call, at least simple
voice input. For example, make a call with a Google Home speaker to a number
where you have stuff like Press 1 for this or press 2 for that. Then say "Hey
Google press 1" and you will find that it works fine.

Maybe this will help.

Think of it this way, if the Microphone is in use, Siri is not available.

When the phone is ringing, the microphone is not being used yet.

If you are recording, you cannot use Siri.

If you are on Facetime, you cannot use Siri, and so on.

Once the microphone is engaged, Siri is not available.

I would think that any phone that has Hey Siri, and iOS 14.5 or later, "Hey
siri Answer" should work.

The key I think is not to say too much. Keep it simple. Stick to "Hey Siri
Answer!"

Siri after all is your electronic servant awaiting your command . So, command
it.

Remember, you don't have to say thank you to Siri. Keep that for real people
who will appreciate your gratitude.

I should have been more specific. Yes, you can't use SIRI when you are on an
active call, the exception seems to be that when you receive a call and the
phone is ringing you can then say "Hey Siri answer" which I guess is using
Siri, but it's also before the call is really an active call. I was just
wondering if you need a newer iPhone for this to work since the person who said
this wasn't working for him had an iPhone 8 Plus and I know there are other
things like screen recognition which that phone is not capable of.

RE: How can I answer the phone with gloves on?

2021-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Any Google Home speaker can take voice input during a call, at least simple
voice input. For example, make a call with a Google Home speaker to a number
where you have stuff like Press 1 for this or press 2 for that. Then say "Hey
Google press 1" and you will find that it works fine.

Automatic should be on, so that the speaker will automatically change, when you

Hello, list:

I have an IPhone SE 2020 using version 15.1 In previous versions, I could hold
the phone away from my ear and the phone would switch to speaker phone. Now it
doesn’t. Even if I move the volume up, it is still in my ear and not on
speaker. If I’m outside near traffic, I cannot hear a conversation, but if I
go indoors, I can hear the phone close to my ear. What do I do to change this,
or has Apple changed the feature? Very frustrating. Thanks in advance.

Louise

Louise,

Did you see my email? The feature you want to check is in Settings >
Accessibility > Voiceover > Audio and it is called "Auto select speaker in
call" and you have to check if this is set to On, if it is not the call will
not automatically switch to speakerphone.
If you check it and it is on I would do two things:
1. Make sure your screen is clean and the you don't have a case which for some
reason covers the proximity sensor near the top of the phone
2. Turn your phone off, wait 30 seconds or so and then turn it back on and see
if that hels

Subject: version 15.1 issue with voice over and speaker phone

Hello, list:
I have an IPhone SE 2020 using version 15.1 In previous versions, I could hold
the phone away from my ear and the phone would switch to speaker phone. Now it
doesn't. Even if I move the volume up, it is still in my ear and not on
speaker. If I'm outside near traffic, I cannot hear a conversation, but if I
go indoors, I can hear the phone close to my ear. What do I do to change this,
or has Apple changed the feature? Very frustrating. Thanks in advance.

RE: How can I answer the phone with gloves on?

2021-11-10 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I should have been more specific. Yes, you can't use SIRI when you are on an
active call, the exception seems to be that when you receive a call and the
phone is ringing you can then say "Hey Siri answer" which I guess is using
Siri, but it's also before the call is really an active call. I was just
wondering if you need a newer iPhone for this to work since the person who said
this wasn't working for him had an iPhone 8 Plus and I know there are other
things like screen recognition which that phone is not capable of.

I don't think any iPhone can do Siri, while call is in progress, can they?

I assume the 8 Plus can't handle a SIRI request at the same time as a phone
call.

Coming in late as well. Tried to experiment with Hey Siri on my 8 Plus running
15.1, but couldn’t get it to work when answering a call. Is there a setting I
need to adjust?

2021-11-10 Thread Richard Turner
Louise,
You tried Alan's steps which are good too, but the setting that truly governs
the feature are in VoiceOver, Audio Auto Select Speaker in Call as Sieghard
says.

Best regards,
Sieghard

I solved this problem by using fingerless gloves or mittens. They are
available in a fariety of styles. You can find them with finger tips exposed,
or with flaps that go over the fingers when you’re wanting them covered. I
made mine as mittens so that they are long enough to cover the fingertips, but
the end is open just enough that I can slip them pack to expose the fingertips
as needed.

RE: How can I answer the phone with gloves on?

Hi Doug,

I agree that auto answer can in a few situations be useful, but I'd be very
careful about turning this on and maybe forgetting about it because you may end
up somebody hearing stuff they aren't supposed to. If you are in the tub and
don't want to touch the phone to answer a call then I assume you also don't
touch it to hang up so how do you know the other person has hung up and is not
just listening? That would make me pretty uncomfortable.

There have been so many messages on this subject that someone may have already
presented this solution which works very well for me. With my phone set to
auto answer, I need do nothing before the call is answered.
This is awesome when my dog takes me for a walk, or if I'm in the tub with my
model Titanic. If I'm not able to take the call, I simply shout either, "I'll
call back,' or if it's a marketer, "I already have 3 of those." To set up auto
answer:
Open settings and go to accessibility/touch once in the "touch" area, wipe
right to auto-answer calls and double tap. If you decide to turn on auto answer
calls, the next items allow either a direct edit of time or you can choose to
increase or decrease the length of time before auto answer picks up.
I've written this message very slow in case you cannot read very quick.

I assume the 8 Plus can't handle a SIRI request at the same time as a phone

My solution- RE: How can I answer the phone with gloves on?

2021-11-10 Thread Karen Poulakos
I solved this problem by using fingerless gloves or mittens. They are
available in a fariety of styles. You can find them with finger tips exposed,
or with flaps that go over the fingers when you’re wanting them covered. I
made mine as mittens so that they are long enough to cover the fingertips, but
the end is open just enough that I can slip them pack to expose the fingertips
as needed.

What do I do, if a call comes, and I have gloves on.

I get it, the simple answer – remove gloves. But, I was in the grocery store,
had to dig phone out, then get off gloves? Well, I am just wondering if it can
be done, answer the phone with gloves on?

Are you saying you thought it saved to the clipboard so you could paste it
somewhere else?
It never did that. MBraille does that.
Writer should save the document so you can resume where you left off later

On the side of the watch are two buttons. The flat one will turn the watch on.
Wait a bit, then press the digital crown three times. This is the round button
