best way to find apps for an apple watch

2022-03-21 Thread Dan

Hi all,

I have my new Apple Watch SE GPS 44mm.  I
have been learning it and am now ready to remove apps I do not
want and add new ones.  I already know how to remove apps but I
am uncertain about the best way to find apps specifically for
the watch.  I have tried doing a search in the app store for
apple watch and find tons but some seem to be more for i phones
and tablet interfacing with the watch or apps that monitor for
specific conditions in other ways.

Is there a best way to find apps
specifically for the apple watch?

Thanks.

RE: Having Trouble Putting in Face ID

2022-03-21 Thread Carolyn
Esther, when I bought my 11, the guy at Walmart could not get me set up. So,
after I got the phone home, I went to the west side of our apartment building
in afternoon sun, got it on the first try. The phone will direct you which ways
to turn your head, sort of like the dirrections you would get with fingerprint
on Home Button. I had no problem, am totally blind and was 82 at the time I set
it up.

Hi, Everyone,

As the subject indicates, I'm having trouble putting in Face ID rather than to
use my security code. I tried to do everything it asked me to do, but knocked
me out when I couldn't finish the process. I also want to know if facial
recognition could be used when I wear my sunglasses when I'm out.

Thanks for your help.

Esther
P.S. Just wondering if any of you had sighted help doing this and I assume you
had this done with the front camera.

RE: VoiceOver does not work when unlocking the phone.

2022-03-21 Thread Carolyn
Chuck, have you tried turning Voiceover off, then turning it back on? Or
turning your phone off, then back on? Those are easy rule outs, so I would bet
you've tried each to no avail.

Hello Alan,
Thanks for the suggestions, I have tried turning up the volume, and testing
with the headphones in the lightning port. Still does not work. When I try to
enter the passcode I can hear clicks as I tap on the numbers, but nothing is
spoken.
I’ve gone through settings, and I cannot figure this out!
But thanks anyways!

Hi Chuck,

I don’t know if your issue has been resolved because it’s been a couple
of days since you posted but I’d recommend you do the following:

1. Go to Settings, Sounds and haptics, Sound volume and set it to
100 percent.
2. Single finger swipe once with focus on Sound volume and you’ll
move focus to Change with buttons and set to off. This will ensure that ringers
and alerts will not be affected by any volume changes made to Voiceover, etc.
using the volume buttons.
3. Go to your home screen and do a two finger swipe down to start
Voiceover speaking each item from its current location or do a two finger swipe
up to start Voiceover speaking continuously from the top of the screen. While
it is speaking, use the volume buttons to get the Voiceover level exactly where
you want it.
4. When you reset your phone by pressing volume up followed by
volume down quickly and then holding down the right side power button for
several seconds, make sure you’re not holding the volume down button for too
long during this process. Doing so might inadvertently reduce the Voiceover
volume. At least that happened to me at one time in the past with one of my
earlier iPhone models.

I’m using an iPhone 13 Mini which I believe you’re also using and be
aware that sometimes the volume level on these devices gets inexplicably messed
up for Voiceover users. This has been my experience especially when bringing
Bluetooth devices such as Airpods, etc. into the mix. I strongly recommend that
everyone using one of these devices keep a pair of lightning wired Earpods on
hand for the times volume goes south. One time, I had a pair of Bluetooth
earbuds housed in their case that connected to my iPhone on their own when I
got up in the morning. Fortunately, I was able to barely hear sound coming from
their case as I swiped on the screen. I was able to connect my wired Earpods
and get full sound and go to Bluetooth settings and remove those Bluetooth
earbuds. The $12 investment in a set of wired lightning Earpods is a very good
investment in my opinion.

I hope your issue has been resolved but if not, I hope the above might
be helpful.

Once I do enter them, through visual help, then VoiceOver works fine.

I found one a few years ago called Flashcards Deluxe. I haven't used it in a

gas meter read outs

2022-03-21 Thread deidreandlouise
Hello all

Is anyone using a "gas meter" to get a continuous read out of levels of things
like CO(carbon monoxide) and VOC'S (vollatile organic compounds)? I want to buy
one but worry that taking a screen shot of the digital display then using a
scanning program to decipher the read out won't be doable. I don't know how
small the print is on these devices or if they are in different colored panels
for the different measurements they are taking that might make reading the scan
difficult or impossible. It would be nice if these devices had built in chips
to record a given time's reading, if asked to record it andhold it in memory.
Then that data could be transferred to a fle and the data studied and compiled
in some app or manually by the user.

Is anyone using this kind of technology with any of their phone scanning apps?

Re: unable to get apps from the store

2022-03-21 Thread Richard Turner
Apparently, The app store is having difficulty.
I could update some apps, but not get new ones, like the Repeater book.
Wait a while and try again.
Or call Apple to report the issue.

Yes, I tried both of those many times. I did finally get it to work by updating
my iPhone to the latest iOS. I have no idea what was wrong, but as long as it’s
working I don’t care.

Hello Alan,
Thanks for the suggestions, I have tried turning up the volume, and
testing with the headphones in the lightning port. Still does not work. When I
try to enter the passcode I can hear clicks as I tap on the numbers, but
nothing is spoken.
I’ve gone through settings, and I cannot figure this out!

   Hi Chuck,

I don’t know if your issue has been resolved because it’s been a
couple of days since you posted but I’d recommend you do the following:

1.Go to Settings, Sounds and haptics, Sound volume and set it to
100 percent.
2.Single finger swipe once with focus on Sound volume and you’ll
move focus to Change with buttons and set to off. This will ensure that ringers
and alerts will not be affected by any volume changes made to Voiceover, etc.
using the volume buttons.
3.Go to your home screen and do a two finger swipe down to start
Voiceover speaking each item from its current location or do a two finger swipe
up to start Voiceover speaking continuously from the top of the screen. While
it is speaking, use the volume buttons to get the Voiceover level exactly where
you want it.
4.When you reset your phone by pressing volume up followed by
volume down quickly and then holding down the right side power button for
several seconds, make sure you’re not holding the volume down button for too
long during this process.

I hope your issue has been resolved but if not, I hope the above
might be helpful.

The problem is that when I try to put the federal in, voiceover says you have

Is it ok to keep federal in file and print it from there?

Hi Fazil,

As far as I know you can’t print from the Wallet, but since you must also have
your vaccine proof saved as JPG and/or PDF for the Federal version which you
would have needed in order to scan it and get it into Wallet in the first place
you can simply open that and print it.

Fazil, I happened to see this as I am currently at a dive resort with decent

RE: Looking for accessible language learning Apps

2022-03-21 Thread Gezim Rexha
Hi Traci,

I installed \Memrise on my iPhone, but it is not quite clear to me how to use
it. I would appreciate if you could contact me privately to give me some
instructions.

Best regards,
Gezim

Hi all, I’m late to this thread, but another recommendation is Memrise. A part
of Memrise that is fun is native speakers. I have used the app off and on for a
couple years. Give it a try. It’s a different approach from DuoLingo. They are
great to have side by side.

RE: Orbit Writer

2022-03-21 Thread Christopher Chaltain
My Orbit Writer does announce what I'm deleting when I backspace. I can't track
down a setting that would change this though. I will say though that if you're
using contracted braille then the Orbit Writer will get confused when you start
backspacing. You can avoid this by using uncontracted braille or switching to
the on screen keyboard to do your deleting.

I was also just looking through my Orbit Writer documentation, and another
misconception I'd like to clear up is that you can connect your Orbit Writer
through the braille support in VoiceOver, but you can also connect it as a
keyboard through the Bluetooth settings. I don't do this myself, but I know
some expressed a concern about having to go through the VoiceOver settings to
pair the Orbit Writer. Obvoiusly, if you skip VoiceOver then you'll be losing
out on functionality you only get through VoiceOver.

Thanks, Josh. As good as you are with the Victor Stream, even though it has

I'm soon to be 85, but my Dad stayed pretty up to date with electronics right

Carolyn. I'm glad you got your face ID to work. I had no idea you are over
82. You seem as if you use the iPhone pretty well. Congrads to you. I hear
from some older people on different lists how they couldn't learn to use an
iPhone or that it is to hard. The iPhone is awesome and I really enjoy using
mine.
