Re: No speech on speaker of iPhone 13 Pro

2022-08-12 Thread Wayne Merritt
I checked the volume and turned it all the 'way up with no change. Also, the
mute switch would not affect the VoiceOver volume. I fixed the issue by doing a
reset of the phone by using the Assistive Touch feature in Touch in
Accessibility. After that, all is working as it should.

Deleting notifications in one place and having them disappear everywhere else

2022-08-12 Thread Mary Otten
I have a few Apple devices, a watch, a phone, an iPad mini, and an older phone
which is about to lose update support. I have notifications on all of these
devices, although the iPad has far fewer of them. Am I just missing it or is it
really not possible to delete a notification say, from the lock screen on your
phone, and have that notification disappear from the notifications center on
your phone? Ideally, I would like to be able to delete said notification from
one place, be at my watch, or either one of my phones or the iPad mini, and
have it just go away from all the other Apple devices. Since everything is
connected through iCloud, I don’t understand why this doesn’t happen. It
doesn’t happen with messages on the watch and the phone either. It doesn’t even
happen on the watch if you delete some thing out of notifications that relates
to a message, you then have to delete the message separately in the messages
app. Why? It’s stupid. At least there should be toggles in settings if you want
it you should be able to do it.

2022-08-12 Thread Rob Armstrong
The first thing to check is to make sure the phone is not muted. The mute or
silence switch is a small switch probably on the left edge of the phone near
the upper left corner. You change the switch with your fingernail.

Hold the phone flat with the screen facing up. Have the phone unlocked with
VoiceOver on. The phone is muted when the switch is in the up position. To
unmute the phone, push the switch down. If the phone is unlocked and VoiceOver
is on, it will say "unmuted".

RE: No speech on speaker of iPhone 13 Pro

2022-08-12 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

Sounds like the volume of your speaker has been turned all the way down. Get
Voiceover speaking with the headphones unplugged, and increase it.

I've had that happen to me before. Oh yeah, the volume of your headphones is
independent of your external speaker, so that's probably why you hear speech
with them plugged in.

Hope this helps.

If you can see which most of us cannot and if you have an Alexa Show which is
placed in such a way that the camera overlooks at least part of your home then
yes, you could “Drop In” and then see what the camera sees as well as hear what
the microphones hear. The Alexa at home or to which you Drop In will make a
sound, however, so if somebody is there they are alerted and both video and
audio are 2-way so if you are dropping in from another Echo Show or I assume an
iPhone whoever is on the other side can probably also see you or at least hear
any noise which may happen on your end. This is not meant to be used for covert
surveillance.

Alexa drop in, can you see who is in your home, or is this just for talking?

Yes, there are actually multiple apps which can turn a Sonos system into an
intercom, but this is not what I meant.
I was referring specifically to Alexa Drop-In which works between speakers like
the Echo Dot, Show and so on, but I am pretty sure it still does not work via
Sonos.
For me Drop-In via Alexa is a better system because it doesn’t only work just
when you are connected to your WiFi, I can sit in my office a mile away from my
house and say “Alexa, drop in to living room” and it instantly connects me with
our Alexa Show at home where I can then talk to my wife.

Hi Donna,
Thank you for this. I didn’t know Home Depot had home security systems. This
is something I would be interested in knowing more about though, as I’ve been
looking for some ideas about home security systems. Can I ask you the name of
the security system you got from Home Depot? I thought the only home security
system was the ADT service, and they are quite expensive, and I would have to
sign a 36 month contract, and I really just don’t want to do that. Out of all
the Googling I’ve done, I only seen the ADT, or at least I think that is the
name of the home security system I can find.

Janet, I used Alexa's Drop-In feature when I took my vacation to California.
Once I reached my friends home, I connected to her wifi. I would drop in
several times a day to listen for any unusual noises & our home door security
alarms. We use the Ring video camera, which connects to Alexa & security alarms
purchased from Home Depot. I like the drop in feature also, because I can drop
in on my kids while I'm running errands, by using public wifis..

Steve, TuneIn will allow pre-season coverage of the NFL just like in past
years. However, when the regular season begins, TuneIn's coverage ends. I
suggest to everyone on this continuing thread that the easiest way to listen to
the NFL will be through SiriusXM. They truly take all the guess work out of
live coverage, especially with the Playrrx APP which allows for easy set-up of
favorite teams and channels.

Steve,
Yes, if you go back to the original message that included the letter from
TuneIn, they will continue carrying some prime time games; but they will not
have all the teams due to the NFL contracting with other services.

I was able to listen to Thursday nights preseason games through the Tune In
Radio app and I am not subscribed, I only have the free version.

You’re right. Since I’m already subscribed to the $5 a month package, I can’t
bring up the page I looked at when I subscribed, but now when I click on the
subscribe button, it just gives me the option to upgrade to NFL Plus Premium,
and there it’s pretty clear that you need Premium to listen to replays of
games, and you’re right, that’s $10 a month.

Did I understand that the NFL plus package that allows rewatching games etc. is
$9.99 but the basic plan is the $4.99 plan?
I'm personally sticking with SiriusXM at least through my free trial that ends
November 4.

OK, I signed up for the NFL Plus free trial, and things worked pretty much as
they did the season before last season. Here’s what I did:

  1. I brought up the NFL app.
  2. I had to go into the Scores tab to get a game started. I couldn’t figure
out how to do this from the NFL Plus tab.
  3. In the Scores tab, I double tapped on the game I was interested in. In
this case, it was the Giants at Patriots.
  4. I then had to double tap on the Watch tab.
  5. Here I could double tap on the home broadcast, which was the Patriots, or
I could double tap on the listen live options, where I could double tap on the
away feed.
  6. At this point the broadcast comes up, but you won’t hear anything because
the audio volume is set to 0. I unmuted the audio by hitting the volume up
button.
  7. Now you can listen to the game but the player is totally inaccessible, so
there’s no way to play/pause or fast forward/rewind.

Like I said, this was pretty much how things worked the season before last.
Last season, the problem was that the volume buttons wouldn’t unmute the audio,
so there was no way for me to listen to the game unless I had a sighted person
around who could tap on the unmute button in the inaccessible player.

SiriusXM is a much more enjoyable way to listen to a game, but it is $12
instead of $5 a month. I did see the option in the Watch tab to relisten to a
game, but I haven’t tried that yet!

Some ballparks and Arena’s don’t have this problem. I used to go to Phillies
baseball games. They had that problem until I called and explained that I
couldn’t enjoy the game and asked them if they could modify it when your in the
park that there is no delay. After a few years they called me back and said
they fixed the problem.

Hi.

I remember going to a college basketball game a few years ago. I thought it
would be nice to take a radio with me to keep up with the action. It didn’t
work. There was about a fifteen second delay between the action and what was
heard on commercial radio. I wasn’t sure why, but this wasn’t an internet
stream. I heard the possible reason why this was done, and it’s to protect the
network from the FCC. If some unwanted words were said, with the way things
are, it can be bleeped out, thanks to that
