Re: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-17 Thread Øyvind Lode
No, I don't think you're doing anything wrong.
When I press and hold both the side button + volume up I get a screen
with three objects:
The first one VoiceOver says double tap to power off, 2nd one is
emergency calls and the 3rd is cancel.

You should be able to swipe between these elements with one finger
swipe right/left.

bluetooth earbuds/phones again

2022-10-17 Thread Dan

Hi all,

My wife is having an issue with her BT
earphones and I do not know how to solve it.  I hope you can
help.

The issue is that if she is listening to
something and the sound stops due to a silent part of the
program or changing to another track or something the earphones
will drop the signal.  Then when the sound starts again the
earphones do not pick back up quickly enough and she misses
anything from part of a word to a couple of words.

Is this involving a setting to fix it so
the earphones do not drop out so quickly or is it an issue where
we need to get some different earphones?  If different earphones
what would you suggest, she likes the earphones that have the
part that goes into the ear canal and not just ear buds.  She
does our mowing and other things where the ear buds drop out of
her ear so she prefers the in the ear canal type.

Thanks for any help with this.

RE: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-17 Thread Richard Turner
While holding in the volume down and power button does give an option to shut
down, it also brings up the emergency call screen.

Depending on your settings, this may end up in making a 911 call when you don’t
want to.

The safer method is what has been given before:

Quickly press and release volume up, then volume down, then press and hold just
the power button.

You will hear voiceover say power off, release the button and double tap power
off.

If you keep holding the power button at that point it will reboot the phone.

RE: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fazil,

Get used to using the 3-button combination and you are getting a somewhat
simplified shutdown screen without the emergency SOS option. What happens is
that when you hold volume down and the side button the shutdown screen comes
up, but it also contains the emergency call button and often focus lands on
that. You could swipe left to Power Off and double tap, but I personally prefer
pressing and releasing volume up, then pressing and releasing volume down and
then pressing and holding the side button for about a second. Then Voiceover
focus is most likely on the power off button.

Alternatively in iOS 16 you can now also tell Siri to "Shutdown my phone" or
"Power off my iPhone" or "Turn off my device", any of these should work. Siri
will come back and ask if you really want to shut down the device and once you
say Yes the phone will shut down.
If all you want to do is reboot the phone, instead of turning the phone off and
back on, just tell Siri "Reboot my iPhone".

Re: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-17 Thread Julian
Hi,I have not been following this thread closely so forgive me if someone has already suggested this. If the iPhone in question is running iOS 16, simply invoke Siri and you can ask it to either power down this device or restart this device. Siri will come back and ask you to confirm what you told her to do And you answered yes. At that point, the device will do what you desire to do, either shut down or restart. This is much easier than trying to do all that fancy gymnastics with the fingers and the buttons and what not. Hope that helps. Sent from my iPhoneOn Oct 17, 2022, at 9:41 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote:

RE: Updating apps in the App Store.

2022-10-17 Thread Richard Turner
My favorite method now is to do a one finger triple tap on the App Store icon.

That brings up the context menu.

Flick right to updates. Double tap.

ON this screen, touch near the bottom of the screen to find where it says
something like personalized updates or something.

Now, refresh the screen with a three finger flick down.

RE: Shutting Down With Side-Button

2022-10-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, reboot typically means a process where the system shuts down and restarts
automatically as opposed to manually shutting down the system and once it is
off to then push the power button and starting up again.
The iPhone never really had a reboot or restart option, on a Windows computer
when you go to the shutdown menu you have a number of options like sign out,
sleep, shutdown and restart.
Even now when at least in iOS 16.1 Public Beta I can ask Siri to "reboot", I
don't see a reboot option in the menu. Under Settings > General you have a
"shutdown" option at the very bottom, but it simply brings up the same Power
Off screen you get when you press volume up, volume down and side button. There
is no reboot/restart option I can find other than asking Siri to do it.

IOS16 and delayed siri responses

2022-10-17 Thread rick.alfaro
I’m wondering if anyone else has noticed this with IOS16. Siri responses are
more delayed for some reason whenever I press and hold the power button to
invoke Siri. In the past, the alert tone was heard almost immediately where
now, there is quite a delay after the tone. I know the tone is different which
I really don’t care for but the delay is quite annoying. Anyone else seeing
this?

I’d say that today reboot and restart mean the same thing. I used to think of
restart and a software thing and a reboot as a hardware thing, so that when you
restarted a computer there was no guarantee that hardware registers would be
cleared. In doing a bit of reading though, I don’t see that what I used to
think is or ever was correct.

RE: deleting text messages

2022-10-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Open the conversation, flick to the message you want to delete, then flick down
to "More" and double tap. This will select the message and at the bottom of the
screen you have options for "Delete" and "Forward". Obviously delete is what
you want to tap on and that particular message will be removed from the
conversation.
If you want to delete more than 1 message flick to "More" on the first one,
then double tap, now find the next message to be deleted and double tap on it
and it will also be selected. Repeat until you selected all the messages you
want to delete and then tap on "Delete" at the bottom. Voiceover will ask to
confirm and if you check the screen you will see that it will say something
like "Delete 5 messages" (if 5 is how many you selected).

When I attempt to delete a text message I am asked if I want to delete the
conversation. How can i simply delete one message at a time?

Subject: deleting text messages

Hello since upgrading any time I delete a text message I get a message asking
if I want to report the message. I am usually clicking don’t report. My
question is can I stop this message from coming up each time I delete a text?
If so, can someone let me know how to turn this off.

Thank you

Tracking steps on iPhone

2022-10-17 Thread Marilyn and Don Bilderback
probably best to have it in the front pocket; but I believe it uses distance
traveled not just motion, so carrying it in a bag shouldn't matter.

In health, select the browse tab, and then the profile button in the very top.

Fill out all the information.

You can opt to share it or not.

I think after you have the profile filled out, and selected what you want for
notifications, the summary should include activity at the bottom of the screen
which will include steps.

If you double tap on steps you can select day, week, month, year

Or, install Pedometer++ and try it out.
