Hi,

I took the plunge and got a refurbished series 7. I’ve listened to all the
videos on Apple Vis and a good many videos on YouTube but I need access to
more info. I know others asked about an Apple Watch user group but I can’t
find the answers. I sure would appreciate if someone could let me know how
to find/join them.

Thanks,

Kim

RE: Face ID, and Bluetooth Speacker Resolved.

2023-01-09 Thread M. Taylor
Janet,

I am so glad that all is working correctly.

As for the volume issue? I have made the same mistake, time and time again.
You are definitely not an idiot.

It sounds as though you reached a very patient and caring Apple rep to whom you
mattered. I am so glad for you.

Thank you for sharing your experience. We have all learned something new about
Face ID.

Hi Everyone,
I spent some time on the phone today with Apple Support. I finally got to
enable Face ID. What I had to do was hold the phone down close to my lap, and
holed the phone a little toward the left, and look down at the phone, and then
Voiceover started reading to me the directions which way to move my head! I
was holding the phone strait out in front of my face, as I usually did to
enable Face ID, but not this time. I found this method to be quite unusual,
but it worked! The Apple rep and I shared screens, so he could tell me where
to put the phone. The Apple rep said that is how the camera is seeing my face.
I have to admit, I wouldn’t have ever thought of that! Now, about my Bose
Speaker not connecting to Apple Music. The rep and I did just about everything
we could think of, we removed the speaker from the phone, reconnected the phone
back to Bluetooth, checked allThe Bluetooth settings, and nothing would
work, so then the Apple rep said hey Janet did you check the volume buttons on
the side of your phone, I said oh ok I will check them, and I pressed the up
volume button, and sure enough, the Bose Speaker was playing the Apple Music!
Wow, you talk about feeling like an idiot, I sure did! The Apple rep and I
both started laughing! What a idiot I felt like!

Thank you all so much, as it is greatly so appreciated!

RE: Face ID, and Bluetooth Speacker Resolved.

2023-01-09 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Janet, not everybody has the same sense of direction and for some blind people
it is really difficult o look at something, to walk in a reasonably straight
line and so on.
I think maybe the Apple rep had some experience with this and found that asking
people to hold the phone this way and looking down was the best way to get them
to look the right way.
I just set up my iPhone 13 Pro last week and for me it was fine to hold the
camera more or less at arms length, of course I did have my elbow bent a bit so
the phone wasn't too far away, but this worked fine for me. I have been blind
for a long time now, I am 55 and lost my sight in an accident when I was 16,
but I try to make an effort to look at people when I speak to them and I have
had conversations with customers at my store who didn't know me and who never
realized for the first minute or two that I couldn't see.
It's good Apple Accessibility could help and hopefully you feel a bit less mad
at iOS 16.2 since it obviously turned out that it was not the culpret 

RE: Face ID and iOS 16.2 Help Please.. ease/

2023-01-09 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I don't ignore what people say on lists, but I realize that people are more
likely to complain about a bad experience then they are to let everyone know
that it went OK. I put a lot of weight on the reports from AppleVis and compare
them to how I use my iPhone. I also remember that upgrading means I can take
advantage of new features, get security patches and call Apple for support. IOS
isn't like Windows where older version will still be supported and get security
fixes. I still take into account what people say on lists like this, but I
balance it against outer information.

I check to see what people on lists say about updates before updating, have
skipped one or two. I am skipping 16.2; I hear too many minuses about it. I'll
see what people say about the next one, and if it sounds safe enough, I'll skip
16.2.

hello to all,

I, have an iPhone 12 pro Max. I personally would not update iOS updating iOS
for any reason, unless you require your phone in education and/or employment
settings. this goes for all technology. do not upgrade to a major opperating
system, or update to a miner one, unless your workplace or educational
institution has compatibility requirements to be running the latest software.
for example: I bought windows 11 enterprize for this exact reason, and because
the temptation to beta test was presented, back as a windows insider i am.
now, when the next major release of windows 11 ships, i will be automaticly
unenrolled from the windows insider program, as my settings are such. that is
my personal opinion after a sirious bug in iOS forst me to reconsider beta
testing. the bug was, VoiceOver would work as it always does. then it would
stop. I had an iPhone SE, second generation at the time, it would get very hot,
it would freeze, and VoiceOver would not work. as i was beta testing, bugs are
to be expected. i broke my NDA, as another bug with Bluetooth keyboard access,
which was it would not allow me to accept keyboard feedback to VoiceOver, so
called AppleCare accessibility support i did. the bug was, so sirious that the
only way to get the phone working, was to literally , call, 911. I did that
twice, speaking with dispatchers,(who asked me,if i could speak freely to them
now) and it was finally fixt in iOS 15.2 developer beta four, as i had a
developer program membership, at that time. I decided to never beta test, on my
primary device again!

so i gave the SE to a friend who had an android phone which was unusible, do to
no sensativity in his fingers for a touchscreen, and no reliable keyboard
access. i took a $983.00 loss, as the phone was 1067.20, with an eighteen
dollar case. he lives in a nurcing home, and thus, cannot afford a new iPhone.

The easiest, in my opinion, is to go to settings, control center, and make sure
it is added and in the early part of the list of apps.
That way, you can bring up the control center, and select Code Scanner.
The other way is to go into settings, camera, and ma'e sure recognize codes or
whatever the exact phrase is, has been checked.
Then you can open the camera and point it at the code and it should work.
You may have to hit something else in there, not sure.

You don't have to be that close, I find it's easier to just put the phone on
the page or packaging where the QR code is located and then lift it up and
straight off the page/item slowly. Stop every so often to see if something
happens.

RE: QR Code Scanner

2023-01-09 Thread Richard Turner
You don’t have to “scan” them.

If the camera is pointed at the QR code, it is automatically recognized. Much
easier than dealing with bar codes.

You can be many feet from the TV to capture a QR code.

Like I said in a previous post, using the Code Scanner app in the Control
Center works the smoothest.

Open the control center, double tap on code scanner, point the camera at the QR
code, like I say, you don’t have to have it perfectly located like a bar code,
and if the QR code has a link, you will be taken to the link, etc.

Re: is an iPhone pencil any use to someone with no vision

2023-01-09 Thread Richard Turner
In my opinion; no.
They are for drawing and/or handwriting.
Even with VoiceOver on, I can think of no way to use one that could possibly
justify the price.
If you are good at handwriting, that can be added to the rotor and done with
your finger tip, or the old style stylus which has the kind of rubberized tip
that is conductive like your finger tip.

2023-01-09 Thread Richard Turner
The easiest, in my opinion, is to go to settings, control center, and make sure
it is added and in the early part of the list of apps.
That way, you can bring up the control center, and select Code Scanner.
The other way is to go into settings, camera, and ma'e sure recognize codes or
whatever the exact phrase is, has been checked.
Then you can open the camera and point it at the code and it should work.
You may have to hit something else in there, not sure.

I decided to never beta test, on my
primary device again!

so i gave the SE to a friend who had an android phone which was unusible, do to
no sensativity in his fingers for a touchscreen, and no reliable keyboard
access. i took a $983.00 loss, as the phone was 1067.20, with an eighteen
dollar case. he lives in a nurcing home, and thus, cannot afford a new iPhone.
so that’s that. I don’t plan to beta test in the near term, but things might
turn in another direction … who knows. as far as Face ID, i too am struggling
with it! got a trusted family member to help set it up, and the tip i got from
Apple, is to make sure your nose is in the centre. when i was doing the hed
movements, i was told by that family member, what to do, and was guided
physically where to position my hed. it is possible however, it takes time and
pations. now, i hope you have success, and if an update or upgrade comes, do
not take it! I did, update my ChromeBook, and Chromevox, the chrome OS screen
reader, was changed majorly. so updates can brake things, and as screen reader,
or other acccessibility users, need stability. imagine, you’re in a meeting for
work. and an update to Chrome OS, or windows, is automaticly installed, as they
always are. you expect JAWS, ChromeVox, NVDA, or VoiceOver to work, and that
meeding is highly important to keeping your job! if something goes wrong in the
moment, updates install, and because of one, you are fired, now that would be
catastrophic! upgrades and updates are not always what they are cracked up to
be! Eloquence in iOS, still has a sirious bug where it does not read chunks of
documents, emails, or any other large peace of text. it siriously inhibits my
workflow, to the point of not using it, and having to switch to another
sinthasizer. eSpeak fits that bill nicely! it’s technicly a beta, but not as
major as an entire opperating system, and provides bennifits nothing else comes
close to having! i signed up for beta testing weather gods, but that is
valuable feedback i can send, and as a perk, everything is free! actually all
iOS and iPadOS app betas,as a condition of Apple’s beta testing app,
TestFlight, it is a stipulation developers adhere to. so it’s not all bad, but
never take an operating system for a spin in a beta cycle, unless you are a
competent power user! apps are fine, sometimes, but if you need one
specifically for a job or schooling, never beta test! and especially not on a
daily driver!
sincerely,
Daniel Angus MacDonald

I'd take a set of Airpods maybe if somebody gave them to me along with $20.
I hate having anything stuck inside my ear further than the wired Earpods, they
happen to fit me great and I don't even have to push them in hard and they just
stay in place.
I also wouldn't be caught dead spending the kind of money on two little things
which only last 5 or 6 hours and which I am bound to loose sooner or later.
Now keep in mind that this is strictly my take, I know many of you love them
and that's fine, then of course if I did spend the money on them I'd also say I
love them.
As for wearing something in bed when you most likely will fall asleep there is
nothing better than those sleep headbands which have a set of very thin
speakers on each side over your ear and a little control pod on your forehead
with 3 buttons for volume up/down and play/pause in the middle. Of course if
you want to fall asleep to high fidelty music then these are not the right
thing, but they are fine for audio books or, if you are into those sleep
sounds, that would probably be just fine, but they are the most comfortable
thing and I usually sleep on my side so I definitely know and I often wake up
in the middle of the night with my Audible book happily playing and I then
usually stop it, pull them off my head and thrown them on the side table. You
can find them on Amazon, just make sure you do look for wireless ones because
the original ones do have a 3.5mm cable and that of course is sucks. I think I
paid around $30 Canadian for mine about 2 or 3 years ago and they still work
great.
I also have an Aftershokz Open Com which I use in certain situations and
another Bluetooth gadget I have is one of these around the neck speakers, they
consist of a thick and relatively soft rubbery cable about as thick as your
thumb and one each end is a speaker, one has the typical buttons to turn it
on/off and for play/pause and volume up/down. I quite like using them at home
when I am out in the summer in the garden or even while cooking, your audio is
right there more or less in front of your shoulders and you can easily reach up
and pause or change the volume.for cert But I just bought a new set of
Lightning Earpods because they are still my preferred headset, there is no lag
and for $24.99 Canadian I get surprisingly good sounding earbuds. I probably go
through a pair a year, sometimes a bit longer, but as I said, inexpensive, good
and when I don't need them I roll them up around my hand and stick them into my
pocket.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hello All,

I have long been a fan of Apple wired Ear Pods.

I had to have my original beloved 8 Plus replaced, about a month prior to its
warranty expiration because the audio function of the Lightening port went bad.

For the last 6-months or so, perhaps longer, while the Lightening port on my
replacement 8 Plus still functioned as expected, it lost the ability to retain
a cable, unassisted. This is to say, when I hold the phone in portrait mode,
perpendicular to the ground, any attached cable will fall out.

I am certain that I was the blame for this as I used to frequently roll onto
the phone, when sleeping; very often tangling the cable with tension for hours
at a time. (How's that for too much information? (smile)).

My point, I am determined not to ruin the Lightening port on my 14.

With that in mind, I am doing my best to wing myself from the wired Ear Pods in
favor of Apple Air Pods.

Even though I like Air Pods and they are definitely more convenient to use than
the wired alternative, I still find myself reaching for the wired pair, more
than anything else.

I was just wondering how many of you have gone completely wireless having all
but abandoned the wired Ear Pods?

It is interesting because when I go to Best Buy, Target, Walmart, etc. I always
see wired Ear Pods, with either the Lightening or audio connector, readily
available.

All replies appreciated.

Mark

In short yes.
The drama was that Google decided that VIPhone list was sending out spam and

they created VIPhone2 and in not too terribly long of a time; poof, VIPhone

Mark began posting all of his messages to both lists; so many of us were

I unsubscribed from VIPhone2.
So now, as you can tell, VIPhone2 is basically dead.

Talk about being out of the loop and behind on emails. I wasn't even aware of a
second/back up list. Was there some drama?

Fazil,

Mark wrote as follows:

Starting Tuesday, January 10, 2023, I will only post to the original ViPhone
mailing list.
So, if you have not yet done so, you may subscribe to the original V iPhone
group by sending an email to:
viphone+subscr...@googlegroups.com
Also, I am no longer approving requests to join the ViPhone 2 mailing list.
If, for some reason, the primary ViPhone mailing list stops working, then we
will, once again, activate ViPhone 2.

So if you look at the email header and see "From: viphone@googlegroups.com" all
should be fine, otherwise do as Mark says and send an email to the address
provided above.
I never subscribed to the ViPhone 2 list, but I assume it will indicate in the
"From" field that it is from the ViPhone 2 list.

Do I have to do anything on my end for this change to be effective, or it would

Hi Deidra,

Yes, while I keep a healthy supply of Braille novels, magazines, and
periodicals in my house, it can be challenging, from time-to-time, to
disconnect from the web.

A couple of weeks ago, when in a hurry, a friend and I left my house heading to
a store to do a bit of light shopping. Halfway there, I realized that I had
left my phone, at home.

It was all I could do to keep from having her turn the car around and returning
to retrieve it.

While out, we decided to grab some lunch at a restaurant.

While we were out, I found myself fighting panic attacks at not having access
to the internet. Now I knew this was foolish; after all, I wasn't expecting
any important phone calls, I knew that we would be heading back to the house
within a couple of hours or so, etc. Still, I found it most difficult to stay
calm and pay attention to her.

She kept asking, "Are you okay?"

I told her that I had left my phone at home and that it was no big deal. I
soon discovered that, in my mind at least, it was, in fact, a tremendously
large, big deal (smile).)

When, near the end of our meal, she suggested that we go to a park for a while,
I all but screamed, "No!"

I simply couldn't stand the thought of being separated from my phone, one
minute longer.

So, yes, addicting, these devices can definitely be, to say the least.

Mark

Janet, keep in mind that this could have just been some glitch which happened
to you and while it's frustrating and unfortunate, there will always be stuff
like that happening.
You may also want to check if your Bose speaker is able to take firmware
updates as updating devices if it can be done is also very important.

Hi Janet,
I understand your frustration as I too have experienced this problem. First, I
would check the setting that your speaker is set as via Bluetooth settings and
more info for your speaker. Set that device to speaker as voiceover can behave
differently if it’s set to another setting.
Secondly, I would recommend that you add audio destination to your rotor as
your voiceover speech can be sent to the speaker when many prefer voiceover
speech to be on the iPhone and audio via speaker. You can add audio destination
via your settings- Settings, accessibility, voiceover followed by rotor.

Hope that helps.

Hi Everyone,
Well now, because I updated I have another problem with Apple Music as well as
with my Bluetooth Bose Color Sound Link. Sometimes Apple Music will play on
the phone, and if I play one of my play lists, it takes forever to play one
song after the other, and I’ve done this for many years. I had Apple music
playing yesterday from one of my play list with my Bose Speaker, and while it
didn’t work all that well, it did finally work, and I had Apple Music playing a
few hours ago, but now my Bose Speaker says it is connected, but nothing comes
through the speaker. One problem after the other with this phone.

Do I have to do anything on my end for this change to be effective, or it would
be automatic?
Thanks!

That's fine, thanks for the 'heads up'.

LOL. I know exactly what you were feeling.

Mark

These posts are great. You all are up on all that is out there. As for me, I
can't wear any kind of ear pieces because they cause me sharp pain in my inner
ear. I am glued to my phone day and night mostly because I text and read a lot,
but I find if I do not turn my phone off at night, I sleep poorly because as
soon as I wake in the night, I once more reach for the phone. I fall asleep
again but if I leave the phone off I somehow sleep much better and wake less!
Round the clock entertainment these phone sure provide us. Does that
spell distraction or cultural etification?

Smiling,

Deidre

I quite like using them at home
when I am out in the summer in the garden or even while cooking, your audio is
right there more or less in front of your shoulders and you can easily reach up
and pause or change the volume.for cert But I just bought a new set of
Lightning Earpods because they are still my

Hi Janet. I have no idea why you are having so many problems with IOS 16.2.
