Re: music from computer to i phone

2023-01-27 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
I pay for both apple music and youtube music. I have a large liked
playlist that I've created with just over 2000 songs on it which is
quite small as some playlists go. I have apple music in case youtube
music doesn't have a song I need. I listen to a lot of bluegrass
which some streaming services don't have the songs I want, so that's
why I need multiple services.

Just remember that the downside of streaming services versus outright music
purchase is that if you ever unsubscribe from the service, you lose access too
all the music whether you downloaded it or not. I'm not clear on what happens
to that music if you subscribe again later.

RE: Safari

2023-01-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
The tabs at the bottom of Safari can also disappear. You can get them back by
double tapping on the address bar. The address bar will say it’s collapsed when
the tabs along the bottom have disappeared. They’ll also come back if you
scroll to the top of the web page, which you can do by giving the status bar at
the top of the screen focus and then double tapping.

Bluetooth also needs to be powered at both ends, whereas in NFC only the reader
needs power.

BTW, there are three classes of Bluetooth that have ranges of 1M, 10M and 100M.

NFC is not Bluetooth and while Bluetooth may work up to 10 m away (33 feet),
NFC requires much closer proximity of just a few centimeters (less than 2
inches). Here a short explanation from when I Googled "What is the range of
NFC":

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a set of short-range wireless technologies,
typically requiring a distance of 4cm (just over 1.5 inches) or less to
initiate a connection.

RE: music from computer to i phone

2023-01-27 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I completely agree with Sieghard. I was reluctant to sigh up for a streaming
service because I didn't want to pay the monthly price. When I decided I needed
to add to my music collection, I decided I'd just buy one CD a month. Once I
thought about it, I realized that signing up for a music streaming service
would be cheaper and I'd instantly have access to every CD I wanted to buy and
millions more I'd never even think to purchase. At the time I signed up for
YouTube Music, and I recently switched to Apple Music because it's available on
more devices than YouTube Music. In addition it means you don't have to wrestle
with iTunes or spend the time it takes transferring your music over to your
phone.

This doesn't mean this is something everyone would want to do, and I realize
some people have music that isn't available on a streaming service, but it's
definitely an option to consider.

well, since I use the HomePods for all my TV sound for Amazon and Apple TV and
cable, I’m definitely keeping them. You can do Apple Music from the TV, and
that works fine. I just wish this problem we’re Siri can’t do Apple music on
the HomePod could be fixed once and for all. It comes and it goes. It’s been
around for a long time. And yet they haven’t fixed it. I don’t think I wanna
get into Sonos. Another ecosystem. But thanks.

RE: WayAround

2023-01-27 Thread R Van Lant
I use Way Around tags on my clothes. I have Braille color tags on the single
color clothes, but use the Way Around tags on items where I want to describe
the pattern and or what items the clothes work best with. Sometimes I’ll note
the brand and size on the item. Way Around has a template where you can fill
in multiple fields of information. I just put it all in the first field, which
is labeled “description”. I just don’t have the patience to do all the fields,
nor do I typically want to save that much info. They offer tags shaped like
buttons that you sew or pin onto the items. They also have round tags with a
larger single hole in the middle that you can pin on or affix in other ways.
Both are washer and dryer safeThese round tags are my favorite. I also use
them on items in my freezer. I use the stickers on items like my thermostat or
remote control where I forget the order of the buttons.

Re: music from computer to i phone

2023-01-27 Thread Richard Turner
Here is the short version, but I would suggest calling Apple Accessibility if
you need help with the details. There are only two ways to get music from your
computer to your iPhone. 1. iTunes. 2. a third party program. I do not have a
third party program to recommend.
If using iTunes, there is a fair amount of setup to do first. You have to be
logged into your Apple ID in iTunes, and have imported all the music you want
into it.
You also will want Sync all music checked.
Then you will have to plug your phone into the computer and back it up to
iTunes, at least that is my recommendation and then sync the phone, but this
can run into all kinds of issues if you have contacts and calendars that are
syncing or not. It can be rather complex: hence my suggesting you call Apple
Accessibility: 877-204-3930

RE: music from computer to i phone

2023-01-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You still have to use iTunes if you want to transfer music from your computer
to your iPhone.
My solution for many years has been to use Apple Music, yes, it costs me a few
Bucks each months, but I have what by now I think are 90 Million songs or
something like that at my fingertip and I can listen to what I want and if you
want to have stuff available for offline listening you can download it to your
device and as long as your apple Music subscription is active you can play it.
I used to be able to buy 5 or 6 CD's for what Apple Music costs me each year.

RE: NFC Tag Manager

2023-01-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
NFC stands for "near field communication" and it is a set of wireless
communication standards between devices with NFC capability and so-called NFC
tags which they can read if they are a few centimeters away.
NFC is also the underlying technology for touchless credit and debit card
terminals where your phone or chip enabled credit card communicates with the
NFC module in the card terminal to exchange the information needed to complete
the transaction.
NaviLens codes are not NFC, they are QR codes at least to my knowledge and are
recognized by the Navilens app using the iPhone's camera which is why they can
work from much further away.

NFC (Near Field communication) is very limited in the distance it will talk to
your other devices. The chips in credit cards are using NFC, as are a lot of
the entrance badges used to provide access to buildings. Bluetooth, works up to
about 10 meters, so is more likely to help on a that carousel

RE: NFC Tag Manager

2023-01-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
No, you won't be close enough, NFC tags only work if your phone is a few
centimeters away at best hence the name "NFC" which stands for "Near Field
Communication". This is the same technology as in touchless card terminals at
stores and you more or less have to touch the part of the terminal where the
NFC component is located.
If you want to use something for luggage your best option would be something
like the "Tracki" tags which are similar to Airtags except they require a
subscription since they also work via satellite. The tags themselves are
inexpensive, but as I said, you do have to pay an annual subscription. Like
Airtags they will use other technologies, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth I believe when you
are in range and I am pretty sure you cam make them play a tone as well.
A better option if you are flying by your self is to make sure your luggage is
well marked with at least two stirdy luggage tags with your name and that you
have a picture of it, then use the airlines or airports assistance program to
get it. If you can show them a picture it helps, even better is to have
something unique on your luggage, e.g. if your suitcase is black, see if you
can find coloured luggage tags, maybe a couple of bright blue or one blue and
one green then you can tell the person who helps you to look for a black
suitcase with a blue tag on the top handle and a green tag on the side handle.
Another option is to get some unique large stickers to put on both sides of
your suitcase although they will probably get beat up over time and you may
have to cover them with new ones.
Apple Airtags should also work since there will probably be plenty of people
nearby with iPhones and I may try this one of these days. I just read an
article on CBC News a few days ago that a couple whose suitcase got lost and
they were able to locate the suitcase which Air Canada said they couldn't find.
In the end they saw it was moving after several weeks and they thought it was
on its way to them finally only to discover it got delivered to some warehouse
and they were able to go there and discover a large storage room full of
luggage which was slated to be donated since it was all unclaimed luggage or
luggage where people had been compensated. Normally this only happens after
several months, but in this case their suitcase was send there by mistake and
it turned out that the luggage tag apparently had gotten torn off and Air
Canada had no way to identify it. The lesson here is to have at least two tags
on the outside, most suitcases have a top and a side handle and to make sure
they are proper luggage tags which have very tough straps and also to make sure
there is identifying information inside the suitecase to that even if tags on
the outside are ripped off and the suitcase is opened, there is a name and at
least a phone number and email address.

RE: Welcome to Dynamic Island

2023-01-27 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
It will be there until it's not just like 3D touch and while I used 3D touch I
also don't miss it. Who knows what Apple will do and I think until next
September it is not such a big deal for most since people who upgraded to a 14
Pro or Pro Max are surely in the minority compared to those who still have
iPhone 13's, 12's, 11's and even lower. The rumour is that with the iPhone 15
the dynamic island will be on all iPhone 15 models not just the Pro/Ultra as
they expect one of the iPhone 15 will be called and at that point it will
certainly become more relevant as people who are on older phones will upgrade
to them or the iPhone 14 Pro/Pro Max.

Thanks. Quite helpful. Hopefully it'll stick around long enough for folks to
like and rely on it, but then it'll only be whipped away in the wind, so maybe
we should not get too attached to it. :-)
