RE: Just a Quick Hello To Everyone on the List from Moderator Mark

2023-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I find the rotor gesture is much easier if you get an old, cheap turn table you
know like for playing vinyl records. Then you put your iPhone on it, hold two
fingers steady on the screen and turn on the turn table.
You just have to make sure the speed setting is on 33, if it's on 45 let alone
on the old 78, the centrifugal force will toss your iPhone across the room.

We sure do. I normally do the router gesture by using my thumb and middle
fingers. Been doing that for many years now.

Hi, everyone,

The trick to the rotor is to have your thumb and index finger spread quite a

well. As I said, my index finger and thumb are spread apart and I find that I
can turn the rotor very easily.

Hello, I replied to this on MacVisionaries, but what I’m talking about is for
iOs. :)

Two little things I’ve thought would be useful:

A VoiceOver gesture, (say a 2-finger swipe right) in the messages window to
send the composed message. Instead of locating the send button.

A VoiceOver gesture to spell the current word in focus. Often I’m on the web
and want something spelled out. It takes many little steps to turn the rotor to
word, flick to the one I want, then turn the rotor to character, flick letter
by letter. A simple shortcut would be super useful.

Those are two little things off the top of my head. :)

Take care,
Traci

I am looking forward to the WWDC 2023 keynote presentation, next week.

You know? The only software feature that I really want added to the OS is
the ability to permanently save and organize iMessage content into folders.

Are there any features, accessibility-related or not, that you would like to

I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to reading your replies.

Others may correct me if what I say is wrong. Yes, I think Samantha is a Siri
voice. But I agree that it's hard to tell because the Siri voices are now
labeled Voice 1, Voice 2, ETC.

I currently use the Aaron VoiceOver voice. That voice is now called Voice 1
for Siri.

Does anyone have a list of the person names for the Siri voices?

Switch your voiceover voice from a siri voice to a voiceover voice & it will
stop the frequent screen curtain message. This suggestion comes from Apple &
worked for me.

DonnaSounds serious, have never done it, what would this affect besides

We sure do. I normally do the router gesture by using my thumb and middle
fingers. Been doing that for many years now.

Take care,
Traci

You know? The only software feature that I really want added to the OS is
the ability to permanently save and organize iMessage content into folders.

Are there any features, accessibility-related or not, that you would like to
see introduced next week?

I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to reading your replies.

Re: What is happen to the Viphone list?

2023-06-06 Thread Kelly Pierce
I listened live to Leo LA Porte and his group of tech bros comment in
real time and critique the keynote immediately afterward. To avoid
turning the keynote into a marathon Oscars telecast, Apple kept the
keynote to 2 hours and six minutes, with a good chunk reserved for the
vision Pro. The iOS segment seemed truncated and rushed to accommodate
the Vision Pro announcement and to cover major updates for the Mac and
the Apple Watch OS. In the presentation, the only blindness
interesting new feature was a big update to messages. A subsequent
announcement said a cool new feature will extract password
verification codes from messages and mail and put them into the
verification box in an app or website. Also, interactive widgets,
including live lock screen widgets will be coming in iOS 17, which was
long rumored. For some reason, Apple could not keep a lid on the
rumors this year so there were few surprises, unlike in other years.
With so many third parties, vendors, and contractors, it is now
virtually impossible to prevent everyone from talking.

Wall Street was hyped up. The stock popped 1.75 percent to reach a
new record high the morning of the keynote, but fell back as the
Vision Pro was revealed. The tech bros with Leo LA Porte were
astounded by the price tag and did not believe the technology was as
developed as Apple seemed to show. No one in the Video actually wore
the vision Pro during the keynote. The guys thought it was a cool,
nerdy technology without a specific end user purpose. They suggested
the headset will be the next status symbol like the iPhone in the late
2000s.

RE: My phone announcing Screen curtain on

2023-06-06 Thread Rob Armstrong
I wasn't asking who spoke all the samples to create the Samantha voice. I
asked if anyone still has the list that identifies what the older names were
for the Siri voices now called voice 1, voice 2, ETC. All of the Siri voices
used to have names like Samantha and Aaron.

When trying to choose VoiceOver voices, we cannot be sure the voice we chose is
not a Siri voice since the Siri voice is not identified by the same name.

voice. But I agree that it's hard to tell because the Siri voices are now
labeled Voice 1, Voice 2, ETC.

I currently use the Aaron VoiceOver voice. That voice is now called Voice 1

Does anyone have a list of the person names for the Siri voices?

Switch your voiceover voice from a siri voice to a voiceover voice & it will
stop the frequent screen curtain message. This suggestion comes from Apple &
worked for me.

DonnaSounds serious, have never done it, what would this affect besides
possibly this issue.

Re: Just a Quick Hello To Everyone on the List from Moderator Mark

2023-06-06 Thread Esther Levegnale
Hi, everyone,

The trick to the rotor is to have your thumb and index finger spread quite a
bit apart. At least, this works for me, and hope it works for all of you as
well. As I said, my index finger and thumb are spread apart and I find that I
can turn the rotor very easily.

RE: My phone announcing Screen curtain on

2023-06-06 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
I went ahead and changed the Siri voice to Aaron as well. I guess I'll see if
it makes any difference on my end. I will say though, talk about having to get
used to it.

Switch your voiceover voice from a siri voice to a voiceover voice & it will
stop the frequent screen curtain message. This suggestion comes from Apple &
worked for me.

DonnaSounds serious, have never done it, what would this affect besides

Switch your voiceover voice from a siri voice to a voiceover voice & it will
stop the frequent screen curtain message. This suggestion comes from Apple &
worked for me.

DonnaSounds serious, have never done it, what would this affect besides

RE: My phone announcing Screen curtain on

2023-06-06 Thread Rob Armstrong
I have just updated to iOS 16.5. Even in iOS 15.7, iOS frequently jumps back
several screens in both Google Chat and WhatsApp. This happens no matter
whether the screen curtain is on or off. It does not jump back the same amount
each time.

Subject: RE: My phone announcing Screen curtain on

This seems to be a bug with iOS 16.5 and also still with iOS 16.6 beta. I think
what is happening is that there is some sort of brief crash because whenever
this happens for me I am kicked back up the top of the page no matter if I was
just swipeing through Facebook posts, reading a news article or whatever. This
also happens with screen currtain off, but since I think Voiceover briefly
crashes and restarts when screen curtain is on you hear the message "screen
curtain on".
I have been meaning to send this to Apple Accessibilithy and demonstrating with
a screen recording, but I am not sure if a screen recording would do much when
screen curtain is on; just as a screenshot with screen curtain on gives you an
image of a black screen I assume maybe a screen recording with screen curtain
on does the same. I tried a few days ago and of course while I was doing the
screen rec ording all went normally and this didn't happen. Anyways, I am glad
I am not the only one and it would be interesting to know if others experience
this or sometimes are surprised that focus suddenly jumps to the top of the
page even when screen curtain is off. It is a bug for sure as far as I am
concerned; not a dealvbreaker, but quite annoying.

For some reason, my phone has begun spontaneously, announcing that my screen
curtain is on. This can be real irritating when I’m in the middle of reading
something and I have to start over swipe in to resume reading. I have typically
kept my screen curtain on for ages to conserve battery life, and to add some
privacy. Does anyone else know why this is occurring?

My iphone 8 does this all the time, and yes, its rather annoying. I think that
the particular app is refreshing itself or something. The screen actually
lights up for a second and then the screen curten returns again and the focus
is usually moved to the top of the page. This often happens for me on webpages
and photos, but it also happens in other apps too. I have no idea how to make
it stop, its just something that I put up with. You could always try
restarting your phone and or emptying the app switcher if it starts happening
too often.

You could always try
restarting your phone and or emptying the app switcher if it starts happening
too often.

RE: bluetooth and typing while using voiceove3r

2023-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
You get perfect, lag-free performance and responsiveness with a Logitech H800,
the problem is that that headset is as far as I know discontinued.
There are other headsets which use a dongle, but you have to make sure it's
actually a dongle which communicates with the headset via 2.4 Khz frequency and
not via some sort of Bluetooth protocol since there are also headsets with a
dongle and it's actually a Bluetooth connection.
The good thing is that you can easily buy replacement battery packs for the
H800 on Amazon and also replacement foam ear cushions so hopefully I can use
mine for many years to come. The H800 does not have super battery life as some
other headsets do, but it's in my opinion the most comfortable, relatively
light weight and the fact it can communicate via 2.4 Ghz as well as Bluetooth
makes it a super solution. I have it paired with my iPhone via Bluetooth so if
I slide the on/off switch up just one click it connects to my iPhone and if I
slide it up another click it connects to the dongle via 2.4 Ghz.

Sieghard, are you telling me, and I think you are, that you get good Windows
screen reader performance with your Logitek H800 headset with a wireless
dongle? I can’t stand JAWS with any Bluetooth headsets I’ve tried, so this
could really be great!

There is no fix, this is simply a result of Bluetooth latency which exists in
even the best and most expensive headsets and sometimes I found that expensive
headsets had more of a delay than inexpensive ones. Even Apple has not figured
this out with their expensive Airpods, Airpods Pro and Airpods Max; maybe some
people now come back and say this is not an issue with these headsets, but then
maybe you just don't notice it because I certainly do. This is also one reason
why I just can't stand using a Bluetooth headset or even a Bluetooth keyboard
with a PC; I type and work much too fast to put up with the slight delay I get
on a Bluetooth keyboard versus no lag I get if I use a Logitech wireless
keyboard using a USB dongle or a wired keyboard. Same goes for my Logitech H800
wireless headset which can work in Bluetooth mode as well as via a USB dongle
plugged into a computer.

What is an "online virus"? I think you have to be a lot more specific since iOS
is not exactly prone to get viruses. I don't want to say it can't happen, but
it certainly would be a very rare thing. What exactly is happening on your

RE: My phone announcing Screen curtain on

2023-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
That is definitely an interesting comment and I will try this as I do indeed
use a Siri voice. If that fixes the issue I will certainly write to Apple
Accessibility since if they allow Siri voices to be used for Voiceover they
should make sure something like this is fixed.

Apple says that it is a Siri bug. & suggests that those using a Siri voice for
voiceover switch to using a voiceover voice. This should correct the problem,
it did for me.

RE: My phone announcing Screen curtain on

2023-06-06 Thread Cristóbal Muñoz
My phone's been doing this since I don't know when. I just figure it was one of
those VO quirks that randomly happen. I know it was going on since at least iOS
15.x when all the other extraneous VO chatter really started, but before that,
I couldn't say. I'm going to have to pay attention about the being placed at
the top of the screen part next time it happens. Off-hand, I don't recall if
that's the case on my XR.

Hi Christopher, you should try to work with screen curtain on for an extended
period of time and I believe you will find that whenever this happens if you
have screen curtain on Voiceover will say "screen curtain on" just as if you
were restarting Voiceover.
For me clearing the app switcher or restarting the phone does not seem to make
a difference or if it dcoes it is short-lived; I have an iPhone 13 Pro.

Once in a great while, I'll have the issue where my focus keeps jumping to the
top of the screen. I think it has to do with either an IOS update or changing
my TTS voice. Clearing out my App Switcher and restarting the phone always
takes care of this for me.

Re: My phone announcing Screen curtain on

Apple says that it is a Siri bug. & suggests that those using a Siri voice for
voiceover switch to using a voiceover voice. This should correct the problem,
it did for me.

2023-06-06 Thread Tony Sweeney
Apple Unveils Platform Updates and Introduces Apple Vision Pro Headset

Apple's highly anticipated annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC)
kicked off today with the customary keynote presentation. During the
event, Apple unveiled the next major updates to all its software
platforms and introduced the much-awaited mixed-reality headset and some
new Mac models.
Our editorial team member Alex (‘mehgcap’), who typically provides
detailed event summaries, regrets being unable to do so this time due to
work commitments.
Summarizing a 2-hour information and technical-rich event with accuracy
and speed, while also teasing out what's of particular relevance and
interest for our community and adding personal opinions, requires skills
and abilities that I frankly do not possess. Instead, I will provide
direct links to reliable sources where you can find accurate and
up-to-date information about all the news announced today. These
resources include Apple's official press releases and the previews they
have released for their upcoming major software platform updates. I will
update this post with additional resources as they become available.

RE: bluetooth and typing while using voiceove3r

2023-06-06 Thread dlmlaochi
Sieghard, are you telling me, and I think you are, that you get good Windows
screen reader performance with your Logitek H800 headset with a wireless
dongle? I can’t stand JAWS with any Bluetooth headsets I’ve tried, so this
could really be great!

Subject: RE: bluetooth and typing while using voiceove3r

I notice that when I’m using Bluetooth headphones and am typing on my Iphone
that there are latency issues between my finger pressing whatever I want to

I had no time to listen to Apple's keynote this morning nor this evening so
far. I surely thought I would find a lot of messages discussing what was said
tonight, but to my surprise there was not a single message.

I really thought I would see a lot of comments as used to be the case about iOS
17 and find a request from Mark for all of our mailing addresses so he can
place preorders for everybody for the $3,500 US virtual reality headset which
Apple apparently announced for early 2024 

Re: URL rejected by native browser but not by Edge!

2023-06-06 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,Thank you for trying the link for me.The strange thing is that it worked fine on Sunday when I ordered my new SIM.  I have not made any changes to my iPhone 12 Pro Max or updated any software since Sunday but I cannot access Id Mobile’s site.  If I double tap their link on my series 7 Apple Watch the page loads.  It works fine with Edge too but for some reason no longer with Safari.I’ve restarted the phone and reset network settings but the issue persists. All other sites work fine.If anyone has any suggestions I shall be pleased to read them.Malcolm ParfittOn 6 Jun 2023, at 00:52, Arnold Schmidt wrote:For what it might be worth, I just tried it and it went through. Subject: health App Question

Hello,
Due to some different information I had to delete the data from my
health app on my phone and Apple Watch. How do I basically reset the
health app to have this new information? Basically, how do I start
over with the health app? i can't find how to do it on the app.
Thanks.
