RE: hearing aids and iPhone

2023-10-29 Thread Paula Jordan
I have Starke hearing aids which I can pair to my phone. I have two settings
under audio routing. The “call audio” setting is for phone calls. The “media”
setting is for sounds on the phone. I usually keep my call audio setting
paired since I find it easier to hear phone calls through my aids. I typically
keep my media audio setting turned off unless I’m doing something like writing
a text or playing a game when I’m out and about and don’t want to disturb
others around me. It is quite easy to pair and unpair the aids. The setting
is on my phone under accessibility. The only small drawback with having the
phone calls paired is that I can’t call my phone from another device if I’ve
mislaid it since it rings through my aids so I can’t use the ringing to locate
my phone. I’ve solved this by telling Siri to tell me a story. I can usually
hear the speaker and find the phone that way. Good luck with your hearing aids.
I put mine in as soon as I get up in the morning and take them out the last
thing at night.

God bless!

Subject: hearing aids and iPhone

Hi,

I am plunging into the world of hearing aids. While it’s mostly because I have
difficulty with quiet voices and loud environments, the guy who will set up my
aids did tell me they can connect to my phone. I’m assuming most sighted people
only connect theirs when listening to a book or music; that is what the guy
made it sound like. I’m trying to get my head around what that is like for
voice over users. Do you leave hearing aids always connected to the phone?
Sometimes I’m on my phone and want to show my sighted family something. Would
I have to turn off the hearing aid connection to let them hear the audio from
the phone? They guy told me I’d have 4 to 5 programs set for different
contexts. Any recommendations of things I should ask when I go in to have the
programs set up for the aids?

Thanks in advance.

Robin

A Question for those who have updated to iOS 17.1: Regarding Apple Music Song Lyrics and the new News Plus Crossword Puzzle Games

2023-10-29 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Everyone,

So, to those of you who have updated to 17.1:

1.
Does VoiceOver now automatically read the lyrics to a song as the song is
played?

2.
Has anyone played the new News Plus crossword puzzle and, if so, were you
able to make any sense of how the puzzle is solved?

This is the first time, in many years, that I want to update to the latest
iOS but am holding off do so because of the continuing issues that have been
reported. At some point, I will just have to take the plunge but for now
...

Perhaps 17.2 will fix some VO bugs.

All replies greatly appreciated.

Mark

I've been waiting for 17.1 to come out to hopefully fix bugs I'd heard about
and preferred not to experience. So imagine the look on my face when after
upgrading from 16.7.2 to 17.1 I said "Siri, open mail," and was answered with
"which one, phone or mail?". Rather surprised, I answered "mail," and was
immediately told something went wrong, please try again later. Well, later
hasn't come yet, because if I tell it to open mail, I get the same thing.

Also, I discovered that instead of playing a sound when I press and hold the
side button on my 14 Pro Max, I get the double-buzz like you would get if
VoiceOver weren't running. Haven't yet found a way to reverse this one.

But seriously, opening mail fails? Gimmy back my 16.7.2.

Hey Guys,

I'm having this problem, and I can't figure out which setting I need to
fix it.

I'm in this group with three other friends, and we text each other every
so often about whatever. Whenever I get a notification from any one of
them, my iPhone 12 unlocks and starts reading it. Even if I've just
locked the phone, if I get a notification even two seconds later, it
will unlock the phone and start reading it out loud. Even if it's just a
Like from one of them, it will unlock my phone and read it.

It didn't used to do that. It just started very recently. I don't know
whether it's something I've done, or whether the most recent update
changed something, but it's pretty annoying.

I've been through the Notification settings, and I can't seem to find
what I need in there. I don't want to turn them off completely, but I
only want them to show up when I unlock my phone.

What do I need to do?

Thanks much.

Evan

Question: Can one delete a VoiceOver label the same way as you described,

I've always wanted to try this but feared that once I added a VO label, I

Subject: Re: iPhone Photos

You can create a VoiceOver label for any photo in your library. The label will
not stay with the photo if you send it to someone else, it is just on your
phone.
Having said that, the steps are the same if you want to rename an app on your
screen.
To label anything, photo, icon, whatever, with VO, make sure the one you want
is in focus by touching it once with one finger. Then do a two finger double
tap and hold until you hear some tones and an edit box opens. You can either
write what you want, or paste something you have copied into that edit box and
then flick/swipe to the save button and do a one finger double tap.
As someone else said, if you want to copy the entire Be My AI description into
the photo, when you have heard the description, touch the screen with one
finger and swipe up or down to copy and double tap. Then close the description,
and do the steps above for labeling the photo and paste the description into
the edit box.
If you don't know how to paste something you copied. Ask.

Re: hearing aids and iPhone

2023-10-29 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Robin,

I like having my hearing aids paired with my phone. It means I can check
notifications or text someone silently without putting on headphones, which can
be convenient. I turn off Bluetooth when I want others to be able to hear my
phone.

Cheers,
Anna

RE: hearing aids and iPhone

2023-10-29 Thread Carolyn Arnold
I have Oticon hearing aids with MFI (made for iPhone) capability. I do have to
turn off Bluetooth, say for Jim to talk to my daughter-in-law, because if I
don't, and I'm anywhere close to him, her conversation will come through my
hearing aids.

My sighted sister and husband both got hearing aids at the same time, always
use Bluetooth, as does my other sighted sister.

One time, the sister and husband were up in the morning, and her phone rang.
She couldn't hear a thing, but he could. They'd gotten their hearing aids mixed
up! He had on hers, and she had on his. We got a lot of laugh mileage out of
that one.

So, yes, both my sighted sisters keep theirs on Bluetooth to their hearing
aids.

Hi,
I have my aiids connected to my phone at all times when I am wearing them. You
can turn off the aids if you wish somebody else to hear the phone I do this
when talking with my kids on speaker phone so my wife can hear.

2023-10-29 Thread Matthew Bullis
The app sounds intriguing. I have not used such an app before, but I wonder if
it has a feature where you can add past entries for years ago? That would be
really helpful for entering significant things you don’t want to forget about.
Then it would also be nice if it would integrate into the calendar or reminders
or simply notifications, so that for instance you could get a notification that
would remind you of an event or entry from this day a year ago, or this day any
previous year. Perhaps that's too advanced for something like this, but that is
the way I would want to use an app like this. The calendar wouldn't have been
appropriate for this, but maybe this new one could? Do you notice anything like
what I’ve described?
Thanks, Matthew

RE: changing alarm sound

2023-10-29 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Paula, is your alarm set to it goes off every day at the same time or maybe
Monday to Friday at the same time? If you have 1 single alarm which goes off
every day one would assume that whatever alarm sound you have whether an alarm
tone or a song should remain once you set it. If you have a separate alarm for
each day then of course you would have to edit each alarm and select the song
for each of them separately.
If it continues to be inconsistent maybe call Apple Accessibility and see if
they can help.

Hi all. Here's The next episode in my alarm SOUND SAGA. I SET MY song as an
alarm and the next time the alarm went off, the song played just as I'd hoped.
However, my alarm today went back to the default. Weird! Any thoughts? I saw
the repeat every day option, but I thought that meant the alarm I'd already
set. Maybe it meant the song?
God bless!

I think Richard already explained it, you absolutely can select a song from
your music library, but as Richard said, the key is that the song has to be
downloaded to your iPhone, if it's in the cloud it won't work.

Looking for a Setting in Notifications

2023-10-29 Thread Evan Reese

Evan

RE: Annoying Emergency Update.

2023-10-29 Thread Carolyn Arnold
You could be right. I want no part of Apple cart or Apple Pay. I had to call
Accessibility one time to do something about Apple Pay just to get it out of my
hair.

I think it is great that they have it, and probably most people want it, but
they tend to be autocratic about pushing it whether we want it or not.

Carolyn, is the one new item in settings anything to do with Apple Card? Go
into first item in settings and go down to the card item and double tap and
follow through as if you want the Apple Card. At some point going through the
pages there will be a place to refuse. It should be much easier to say no, but
it’s not. That drives me crazy with a new device. Hope this helps you.

On my 13 pro max, my alarm tone stays the same no matter when I set a
new alarm. It only changes if I change it. I don't usually set
alarms, but it is quite easy to do and seems to work well.
