Generally speaking, no you do not need to remove a case of that nature from
your phone. The positioning is going to be even more finicky though so… Good
luck.

2023-11-04 Thread Richard
I just opened my Apple Magsafe pad.

It appears the only way the pad can charge my iPhone would be for me to remove
the case from the phone. I have a silicone slip case I purchased from Apple.

Must I remove the case to charge the phone?

Thanks!

Hi,

Yes, I have successfully used my Apple Magsafe charging pad to charge my
beloved iPhone 8 Plus and not so beloved iPhone 11. It also charges my Airpods
Pro and Airpods third gen.

However, I will say that the 8 Plus needs to be perfectly aligned on the
Magsafe pad in order to charge correctly. This is actually more difficult than
I would have expected. Move the phone off center of the pad and, while the pad
will remain a bit warm, the battery will not charge on the 8 Plus. I would
never recommend using the Magsafe charger with a non-Magsafe device, unless
absolutely necessary.

I have an old third-party charging pad, purchased at the same time as my
beloved 8 Plus, from the Apple store, that works much, much better than the new
Apple Magsafe charging pad, with the 8 Plus and other non-Magsafe devices..

It's been a while now but I think I got my beloved Samsung Galaxy to charge

Hi Richard,

You have to differenciate between what “Apple” says and what a random “Apple
employee” says whether that is an employee at a store or from Apple
Accessibility or Apple Technical Support. Yes, in a perfect world they would
all be perfectly trained and know everything, but they don’t, they are people
and have opinions and misconceptions.

Here is what it says about the basic MagSafe charging pad on the Apple Store
website, I’ll provide the link below:
The MagSafe Charger makes wireless charging a snap. The perfectly aligned
magnets attach to your iPhone 12 or later to provide faster wireless charging
up to 15W.
The MagSafe Charger maintains compatibility with Qi charging, so it can be used
to wirelessly charge your iPhone 8 or later, as well as AirPods models with a
wireless charging case, as you would with any Qi-certified charger.
The magnetic alignment experience only applies to iPhone 12, iPhone 13, iPhone
14, and iPhone 15.

https://www.apple.com/shop/product/MHXH3AM/A/magsafe-charger

As you can see, a MagSafe charger is no different from any Qi-certified charger
except that it is slightly magnetic. The actual strength of the charger is not
even that much which you can check by sticking any steel object to it, I just
happened to have a 4-inch #2 Roberts screw driver bit sitting here and while it
sticks to the Belkin MagSafe charging stand I have, it is not a strong
attachment. But along with the magnets in the iPhone (on compatible models),
the attachment is relatively secure. I love how MagSafe chargers work and would
never go back to anything else and I only use a cable if I don’t have any other
choice.
If somebody who has an iPhone SE wants to use MagSafe then it is certainly
completely safe and OK to buy a MagSafe compatible case and use it that way.

Best regards,
Sieghard

Hi, I also had my library set not to sync using iCloud, running the last
version of IOS, and never experienced a similar problem as I said in a
different thread. Additionally, other users reporting this annoying issue were
using different iPhones.. By the way, nobody is saying that VDR isn't great. If
you didn't experience this, good for you. As I said, I deleted and reinstalled
the app, and it got fixed, but firstly I tried updating VDr to the version that
was released today with no luck. As far as I'm concerned, it is not a
device-specific problem, it is not the IOS version, and in my case, I can
flatly sate that it isn't a matter of corrupted data because I set up my iPhone
as New in late September, and performed a clean installation of VDR. Besides,
I'm a heavy user, meaning that on Thursday night the app was running perfectly
fine, and the problem started just after yesterday's update and remained even
after today's release.

hi, I updated 2 version 4.2.4, I think, last Monday, October 30, and haven’t
seen an update in the App Store since. Can you send me the link for the most
current version? Thanks. By the way I’m in Southern California. Just in case
that makes any difference.

The Audible app does the samething too. It depends on the type of app, if it

MagSafe Charger – Apple

Sieghard

RE: magsafe

2023-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

MagSafe Charger –
Apple

Best regards,
Sieghard

Happens on my iPhone 13 Pro occasionally. Instead of hearing the siri tone when
I press and hold the side button the phone seems to become unresponsive for a
bit, usually what you describe works and then trying to use Siri again usually

Are you now able to get Siri to correctly launch apps in 17.1?

I've been waiting for 17.1 to come out to hopefully fix bugs I'd heard about
and preferred not to experience. So imagine the look on my face when after
upgrading from 16.7.2 to 17.1 I said "Siri, open mail," and was answered with
"which one, phone or mail?". Rather surprised, I answered "mail," and was
immediately told something went wrong, please try again later. Well, later
hasn't come yet, because if I tell it to open mail, I get the same thing.

Also, I discovered that instead of playing a sound when I press and hold the
side button on my 14 Pro Max, I get the double-buzz like you would get if
VoiceOver weren't running. Haven't yet found a way to reverse this one.

But seriously, opening mail fails? Gimmy back my 16.7.2.

RE: Audio Destinations Between iPhone and Bluetooth Speakers

2023-11-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, theoretically if a device is recognized or manually set to be a "Speaker",
Voiceover should stay on the iPhone, if the device is recognized or manually
classified as a headset Voiceover should follow other audio. Unfortunately this
is not set in stone and with my Ultimate
Ears Wonderboom speaker Voiceover stay son the phone when I first turn it on,
but there are events which eventually make it switch. Sorry, can't remember
what causes it, but I have had it happen. Then of course there are apps which
are designed poorly and mess with where audio goes, for example, if I just use
my iPhone without a headset and tap on the "Tap to Go Live" button in the ring
app for my video doorbell, Voiceover is immediately routed from the external
speaker to the earpiece which naturally make it extremely difficult to hear and
impossible if you are somewhere with a bit of noise around you. If I turn the
volume way up and hold the phone fairly close, but not so close that the
proximity sensor engages and turns off the screen, I can turn on the microphone
since by default when it goes to live, it's only the visual, not audio or with
microphone engaged, but anyways, as soon as I turn on the microphone this also
turns on the speaker and then Voiceover returns to the external speaker along
with the audio from the vbideo doorbell. I have written to Ring about this
before, but so far nothing has been done about it and if I want to start live
view I usually make sure that I plug in my Earpods first. There have been other
apps over the years where this happened and Voiceover was routed to the phone's
earpiece and I wish developers would take better care when they programmed
their apps.

Subject: Audio Destinations Between iPhone and Bluetooth Speakers

Hi,

Does anyone know how things are supposed to work when connecting a Bluetooth
speaker with respect to voiceover audio? It was my impression that the
VoiceOver audio should then go to the Bluetooth speaker.

I recently connected a JBL flip six to my phone, and the interesting thing is
that voiceover audio stayed on the phone while music from apps, such as
Pandora, Plex and others went to the speaker. This was actually great, but the
one app where this didn't work was Amazon Alexa. As soon as I opened that app,
VoiceOver audio switch to the Bluetooth speaker.

I would love to be in control such that as I said, I can assure music and other
audio sources go to the Bluetooth speaker when I choose, and independent of
that I can control where VoiceOver audio goes. I tried looking under audio
voiceover settings, but that doesn't seem to let me choose between devices,
just left/right on a device.

RE: Voice Dream Reader

2023-11-04 Thread leobado1982

Best,
 Leo Bado

I know this isn't what you asked but I have my library set to not sync using
iCloud on my iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 17.1 and I haven't experienced any of
the Voice Dream Reader issues posted with any of the most recent versions.

I would encourage all Voice Dream users to go into settings and add the most
recent user guide to their library and invest the 20 plus minutes to read it.
You might be surprised with all the capabilities of the more recent versions of
Voice Dream and I expect you'll learn a good deal.

Re: Voice Dream Reader

2023-11-04 Thread Alan Lemly
Richard,

I know this isn't what you asked but I have my library set to not sync using
iCloud on my iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 17.1 and I haven't experienced any of
the Voice Dream Reader issues posted with any of the most recent versions.

I would encourage all Voice Dream users to go into settings and add the most
recent user guide to their library and invest the 20 plus minutes to read it.
You might be surprised with all the capabilities of the more recent versions of
Voice Dream and I expect you'll learn a good deal.

2023-11-04 Thread leobado1982
Well, in my case nothing worked except for deleting and reinstalling. I even
found a new update this morning, but it didn’t make a difference after
launching it. This is the very first time I got such an issue with VDR, I even
set up my iPhone as a new device when IOS 17 was released, so it is not like
data was corrupted.

Yes, I had the same problem with Voice Dream reader today. The only way I was
able to get it to respond was to upload all my books to the cloud, which I had
stopped doing for a while that corrected the problem. Maybe turn off and on any
downloads that you have given to the cloud and see if that helps. so I was not
backing Voice Dream reader books to my phone and when I turned it on and back
them up, it responded as it used to.

Take care.

releases nor do I have issues now after installing the iOS 17.2 Developer Beta..

Hello Steve,

I was going to update to 17.1 until I read your post and then, like a
frightened turtle, decided to hide inside the protective shell of 16.7 for just
a little longer (smile).

Hello,

I am also having trouble with voice dream reader after it’s update. I am using
an iPhone thirteen mini with version 16.7.2.
When I try to open voice dream, I just get a blank screen. According to the
app switcher, voice dream is open. I closed it in the app switcher, and
rebooted my phone, but still no success.
Any thoughts or suggestions is greatly appreciated.

Check the speaker itself in bluetooth settings under more info. Check
the device type, if you see speaker, choose headphone, or other and
see if that changes things. Good luck.

Audio Destinations Between iPhone and Bluetooth Speakers

2023-11-04 Thread Kelly Ford
