Thanks for the information. Apple should do a better job of letting users

Hi Chaim,
I like Westminster Chimes which will play a chime every quarter of the hour and
strike the number at the hours in its free version. I had to disable showing

Re: Voice control on the 6S

2020-02-09 Thread Aedan Something
A lot of voice control’s problems can be solved by saying "command mode" when
you don’t want to dictate normally. You can still say "type " to
dictate what you say before you pause when Voiceover is focussed on a text
field. I can’t find a setting in voice control settings to turn command mode on
by default.

Re: I updated spotify and now can't read daly mix descriptions

2019-11-05 Thread Aedan Something
You’re welcome, in my experience developers need more than polite requests from
disabled people before they take us seriously. Skip the Dishes has refused to
change their app framework or label their buttons after many attempts. Giving
the app makers a low rating and encouraging other people to do the same because
the developer has broken Apple’s accessibility guidelines and therefore is
refusing to serve the whole public might do a better job of encouraging
positive change.
I hope more developers respect all of us whatever it takes.

Re: Converting an Audio Book

2016-02-05 Thread Aedan
Hi, if you use a PC foobar2000 will convert mp3s to a single m4a. When
you're saving the file you can change the extension to m4b which will
make iTunes see it as an audio book. If all the files are tagged
properly you can also drop them into the automatically added, then
search music for the album name, press get info on the album and under
options change the media kind to audio book.

Hello List,

Just thought I post a quick message about this. Skype was updated
for me this morning. First of all, Voiceover accessibility is, as
far as I can tell, fully there. However, the interface is
completely different and will need a bit of getting used to.
Having said this, I really like what I have seen so far.

For one thing, the app loads super fast and this is something that
is mentioned in the What's new.

The first time I opened it after the update a video started
playing. I let it play and after maybe 15 or 20 seconds it stopped
and I had a "Skip Video" button.

Once I was in the app I noticed that now there are 2 buttons, one
on the top left called the "Skype Home" button and another at the
top right called "My Info, Online" button. If I double tap this I
have a Back button at the top left and then a nice summary of
everything related to my status and account:

First my name

Then a Change Profile Picture button

Next a place where I can enter a mood message.

Then the status button where I can change it from Online to Away,
Offline and so on.

Next is my Skype credit and if I double tap it I can quickly add
$4.99 via an in-app purchase.

Lastly is a My Account button, a Settings button and a More button.

In Settings I can turn on or off push notifications, in-app
notifications and in-app sounds.

Under More I have buttons for Help, About, Send Feedback and Sign Out.

Underneath the top where I find these 2 buttons I have now 3 items
in one row:

Recents, Favorites and People

The order of these 3 items changes, Voiceover doesn't say they are
buttons or links, but you can double tap on them and whichever one
you double tap on moves to the very left.

Favorites is new and for me it's empty since I haven't added any
Favorites yet.

People gives me all my contacts. If you double tap it you have a
search field to look for somebody and there is also a table index
on the right. Between the search field and the top of your list
starting with "A" is a button which Voiceover announces as "All".
This means all your contacts are displayed and if you double tap
on this button you can choose between All and Online. Here I have
to do some more exploring because in the old Skype you could tap
on lists and select from All contacts, Skype Contacts, Online
Contacts, Saved Phone Numbers and also bring up your iPhone
Contacts. I currently don't see this any more and while "All"
contains all you have in Skype including regular Skype contacts
whether they are online or offline as well as saved phone numbers,
one apparently can't filter by this any more.

At the bottom of the screen are a few buttons and they may change
depending on where you are. If you are in your People view you
have buttons for "DialPad", Message" and "More".

One thing which is fantastic is that the DialPad now works in
touch typing mode even when you are on a call and bring up the
DialPad to enter numbers during your call.

In the past only the main DialPad where you would dial your phone
number would work in touch typing mode and you still had to double
or split tap the DialPad for entering numbers during a call.

I think this makes Skype the only Voip app where touch typing on
the DialPad is f

Re: Free Kindle books through my public library

2013-12-29 Thread Aedan
Hi, here is a suggestion for searching. Try typing the whole name in
quotes. "John Doe" This lets search engines know you want to searc for
the whole term as one item not separate key words.

Aedan
On 29/12/2013 10:32 AM, Sherrie wrote:
I just joined the public library here and they are members of

IOS device. I downloaded the Overdrive app and I am still working
with it but what worked out well was that when I found an eBook that I
wanted from the library I was able to download it as a Kindle format.
It then switched me to the page on Amazon and I had to click on Get
your library loan or whatever the Get link was. Then it showed up in
the Kindle app on my phone and will be available for my iPad as well
for two weeks.
The searching from the Overdrive app is very difficult. I got to it on
my laptop through the website for my local library. You need a
library card number to download a book. A lot of the better books are
not available immediately but you can put a hold on up to five of
them. The ones you actually download will stay on your app for two
weeks. I have been locating these because my husband reads eBooks and
he is totally incompetent on the computer.
Some tips about searching on the Overdrive website...When you put in
an author’s whole name such as Michael Conley it finds all the books
by a Michael or a Conley and you have to go through a lot that way. I
started just putting the last name and then doing Jaws searches on
each page for the first name. I also had some luck using the advanced
search and choosing various subjects from the drop down menu such as
mystery. Then when you find an author you were looking for you can
click on it and find more books by her or him. this was actually more
successful for me.
Anyway I saw some people asking about the free loan of Kindle books
with the Amazon Prime and this is much better since you can have up to
5 books at a time for free. And the Amazon Prime loans won’t work on
the Kindle app, just Kindle machines.
Just a note...I also like the fact that I can send documents that I
want to read on the Kindle to my personal
mailto:personal.kindle.em...@kindle.com and they also get loaded to
the Kindle app through Amazon. I like this for some of my reference
material that I need to have handy such as the blue tooth keyboard
shortcuts, etc..

Re: Hawaii anyone?

2013-08-28 Thread Aedan

Hi,
The seeing eye app works in Canada as well, I don't know about other
countries. You do need a data connection, I recommend roam mobility at

https://www.roammobility.com/referafriend/?bl=YWVkYW4uc3RhZGRvbkBnbWFpbC5jb20=
My friend that uses seeing eye says it uses map data and 4square as well.

I am planning a 6 week vacation in Hawaii starting mid September. Can you

period? I will have to pay the annual subscription, and since I am not resident
in the US, I will only use the app in Hawaii. Is it worth it? Is Hawaii fully
covered? Will I have to get a data plan as well? Or will the app be downloaded
on my iphone and I need to only use GPS? If data plan is required, how much
data will I use in 6 weeks? Since I will have to get a 6 week SIM CARD. Where
will I get that? Any listers in Hawaii who can help? Will really appreciate any
help. Thanks!

Re: flack conversion?

You can play flacks with OPlayer which has other good features as well
like transfering from dropbox and ftp sites. As for converting them on
the PC foobar2000 works if you install the converter..

I put a shortcut on the desktop to automatically added to itunes which
is in your itunes media folder and put things in there. Itunes then
whisks them away to sort them acording to their tags.
