Re: Pre-paid data plan for iPhone in Germany?

2016-10-22 Thread Paweł Masarczyk
Hello,

Since your wife can speak German, following is a great resource for all
infamiliar with the crazy prepaid system there -yes, nearly every supermarket
chain has a carrier, there are offers for people coming from foreign countries
etc.

www.prepaid-wiki.de

If internet access is all she's asking for, Alditalk would be the best option
as you can get 5 gb. of data for nearly €15. It seems impossible to get more
than 5 gb while on prepaid. You can get Alditalk sims and refill cards at every
Aldi supermarket - they are to be found just about everywhere.

There are also offers focused on international calling - not sure if they cover
the US.

I'm using Lebara where for €30 I've got 1000 minutes to the EU and 3 gb of data
or 500 minutes and 5 gb. There are other offers like Blauworld or Lyca Mobile
too. You've got to research on the website above.

Safe travels and a well-spent time.

kind regards

Subject: Pre-paid data plan for iPhone in Germany?

  Hello list,

So my better half will be visiting the in-laws later this year. She’s going
to be in Germany for roughly four weeks and will be taking her unlocked GSm
iPhone. I was wondering if any of the international travelers or possibly
German based members of this list can recommend a pre-paid cellular plan that
she can use while she’s over there?

Having the local number or the need to activate in German is no big deal for
her since she’s from Germany, but as we’re not terribly familiar with cell
plans, thus my question.

Calls/texts aren’t that much of a concern since there are options like
Facetime, iMessages, Skype/Hangouts and so on. It’s really more the data plans
that she’s interested in.

  Any input would be appreciated.

  Thanks,

Subject: Invitation to an audio accessibility program on TeamTalk

  Hello all,
We have an audio conference program about accessibility on our private
TeamTalk server. This program is generally in Turkish language however, Harri
Pasanen, creator of legendary Braille program MBraille will be our guest this
week, on 21st of May. Therefore, we thought people who can speak english can
also join the program and ask questions or make suggestions to Harri. The
program will be in Turkish but everything will be translated for Harri to
understand and answer. Thus, we'd like to invite blind people all over the
world to join us and ask questions about MBraille on iOS and Android. The
program will be at 21:00 (9 PM) by Turkish time. For those who wish to join may
contact me to solve the time zone problems and installing TeamTalk and joining
the channel.
In this article, I will try to briefly explain how to join the server on all
platforms that TeamTalk application is available.
For those who wish to join via a windows machine, please download and install
the following application.
  http://bearware.dk/teamtalk/v5.1.1/TeamTalk_v5.1.1_Setup.exe
During the installation, please check the TeamTalk5 client for accessibility.
After installation, press f2 and press tap to hear the host address or IP
address edit field.
  Type 188.132.221.21
Press tab and do not touch UDP and TCP port fields, they will be default
value, 10333.
Press tab till you hear username and type guest.
Press tab once and type guest again for password.
Now, press enter, you will be connected to the server.
Before connecting, press f4, and type your name and surname to the nickname
field.
Press tab and check push to talk checkbox and uncheck the voice activation
checkbox. Press setup keys button to set the push to talk key. Just press space
bar on setup keys button and press and hold the key for a few seconds that you
wish to use as PTT key. Generally, people use the Alt-GR key, the alt key on
the right side of the space bar key.
Press tab once and select the TeamTalk language there, if your language is
not supported, do not touch it.
Navigate with tabs and find the vu-Metre updates check box and uncheck it, in
order not to hear TeamTalk progress bar updates.
Press tab again and set the maximum text length to 512.
Press ctrl tab twice and select the direct sound radio button.
Press tab and select the microphone you want to use.
Press tab again and set the output device you wish to use.
Press tab again and find the
Enable automatic gain control (microphone level adjusted automatically)
  checkbox and uncheck it.
Press ok button after you made all the changes.
Now, you are ready to join, listen and talk.
After you join the channel, press letter E to join the English speakers'
channel, in which someone will help you to join the conference channel and help
you to solve the other problems you experience.
If you want to join via iPhone or iPad, just go to AppStore and search for
TeamTalk or click this link to download the application:
  https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/teamtalk-5/id1069487751?mt=8
On iOS, select add button on the main TeamTalk menu and fill the necessary
fields.
Server name: the name you wish to know the server.
Host Address or IP address: 188.132.221.21
Tap TCP and UDP port fields once, do not change anything, just continue and
type guest for username, and guest again for the password.
Now press save button and find the server name that you typed and swipe up or
down with one finger to connect the server.
Before connecting, you may want to make some program settings, so click
preferences or settings. Type your name to Nickname field.
Check the necessary boxes according to your wishes and set the microphone and
speaker volume settings.
After connecting the server, just find the English Speakers' channel and you
will get help if you need and to forward you to the conference channel.
If you want to join the program via an Android device, just go to PlayStore
and search for TeamTalk or download the app from the following link:
  https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.bearware.gui
After downloading and installing the app, just click add button and do the
same things as it is explained on iOS part.
Fill the necessary fields and press save. Select more options, settings and
make the necessary settings here. Do not forget to type your name to Nickname
field.
Press connect button for the server name you saved and you will be connected
to the server.
On the right buttom, you will see TX button, that button is PTT key. on its

Hello everyone,

Thanks for the replies and explanations.

Krister, as far as I remember you're right, except local communities of users
have created databases for a lot of areas of the world by converting the data
of already existing projects, E.G. in Poland UMP (the Universal Map of Poland)
was used for this purpose.

Someone on a Polish mailing list raised a point that Loadstone let you simply
open the app and there you were with all your favourites loaded and time-based
announcements on. Apparently Seeing Assistant Move is close to that approach
but it requires some clicking and setup before you're ready to go.

Also Loadstone can give you some extra GPS info if you're geeky about that.

In any case this would be another GPS nav provided by people that were on the
market before the touch era and their take at the app in this new world could
be an interesting perspective.

kind regards

  Hey,
As i understand it and i could very well be wrong, thus my request for
explanation, Loadstone has no maps or such by default, the user has to create
the maps themselves. If so this is a great showstopper for me. I don’t want to
draw the maps for the orientation tool to then follow because i as a totally
blind person am unable to do that. All i want is to be informed of eventual
POIs, intersections, get turn-by-turn instructions etc rather like gps apps are
supposed to do. Recording alternate routes to those suggested by the gps app is
a plus, but creating a whole map myself, no way Jose. In certain areas of the
world such as the U.s or the UK there may be readymade maps but i doubt there
are ready made maps for this little Swedish town i live in, that’s why i and
Loadstone like apps aren’t friends but as i say if i have misunderstood
something then feel free to tell me.

MapQuest allows you to add stops to a route.
Put in your destination, then find the Add Stop button, which says “pi add
stop” as it must have the “pi” symbol as part of the button label.
Then, put in your next destination and Mapquest will sort them by distance,
but you can drag them to a different order if you wish.
Then, double tap on Walking or
Driving and then hit the Start button.
There is also a list button so you can get step by step instructions on the
screen as well as spoken.

This is probably primarily a United States and possibly Canada app. I’ve
not heard if it is used elsewhere.

But, these are based on locations ahead of time. It sounds like My Way
Classic allows you to drop points as you go so you can do that same route later.

You might also test MyWay Classic. I’m using it when I have to pass

You can’t go wrong next time you are folling the raout. MyWay classic will give

  Hi Paul,

Do you have any details about this? I followed your link to the GoFundMe
website, but apart from the fact that they are looking to raise $2,000 and have
raised $65 in the last 13 days there is no other information. I would have
questions like this:

Is there an ending date by which the $2,000 have to be raised

If so and they are not reaching the $2,000 what happens to the donations that
were made

If they do reach the $2,000, when do they expect to have this app ready?

How much do they think the app would cost and would it be a one-time purchase
or would they require a subscription like Seeing-Eye GPS to keep it going?

I guess they are joining the iPhone bandwagon pretty late and it would be
interesting to know how they think they can differentiate themselves from the
Seeing-Eye GPS app which now has become much more complete since one can now
have user POI’s. Then there is of course Blindsquare which does a very nice job
for telling you where you are and really only lacks more detailed intersection
information (probably something the will be added at some point) and
turn-by-turn directions which to many users aren’t as important as getting
feedback as to where one is one more familiar routes. Lastly of course there
are apps like Apple Maps and Google Maps which are becoming more and more user
friendly for visually impaired users as time goes by and which in connection
with an app like Blindsquare offer a pretty good solution. One big point in
favour of them of course is that we all know support for them will not go away
or that the product becomes less useful because the developer runs out of money
and can’t provide map or app updates.

Re: Problems using onscreen Braille keyboard

2014-09-27 Thread Paweł Masarczyk

Hello guys!

I've discovered that keeping your fingers together withno finger being
longer than any other - the natural position of your middle finger
enforces that - the dots should be alright. You can type with your
fingers in their natural positions, but for calibration keep them this
way for a brief moment. I think for some reason the system gets the
fingers confused. Also: have you tried the Perkins-like mode where all
the dots are placed on one side of the screen, the fingers of your right
hand are closer to the earpiece and the left hand towards the home
button. I find it quite comfortable as well and this is where you need
to calibrate,I mean you need to do that if you want to get this effect.

The gesture for explore mode is not a double tap and hold, you simply place
a finger on the screen and leave it there until VO says now in explore
mode. That might be part of the confusion.

Hello guys!

I was trying this feature out on an iPhone 5.

I've discovered that when I calibrate the dot positions, it often
happens that the 456 dots cell changes the dots positions in a rather
uncontrollable manner. Sometimes dots 4 and 6 are turned round,
sometimes it is dots 5 and 4 that change their positions. This makes it
rather hard to type on it reliably.Has anyone found a way around
this?\I've also noticed that it works best when you hold it with the

recognized is the gesture to change the rotor setting. Is anyone
else experiencing this?

I am an experienced MBraille user, and MBraille is still working
reliably for me, so I don't think it's me or the hardware in my
phone. Thoughts appreciated.

Re: spotify and offline mode

2014-04-27 Thread Paweł Masarczyk

Hello,

Maybe somehow the offline mode got switched on.

Go to settings and uncheck the appropriate checkbox.

I'm honestly not sure how accessible it is now on iOS as I moved over to
Android and am getting information from various sources that with the
latets update the accessibility has got worse.

Therefore, I wish you good luck.

I am having a little problem with spotify. When I use this app, is

saying this, and it doesn’t let me search and play any thing?

Thanks!

Re: SpellStack Player's Guide

2014-01-18 Thread Paweł Masarczyk

Hello.
I have downloaded Spelstack, tried to play a game, read the tutorial and
I still don't understand one thing.

When is my turn supposed to end?
I have built a three-letter word vertically when it was my turn and
nothing happened. Is there any button I should click to submit my move or
is it supposed to end the turn for me?
Also one question to the developers: would it be hard and is it planned
at all, to introduce support for dictionaries of other languages so
multilingual people could play in different languages?

Spellstack looks like a fun game to fill the gab on Android where my
favourite to time, Hanging With Friends, is lacking accessibility support.

Have a nice day.

Re: Facebook question

2013-12-15 Thread Paweł Masarczyk

Hello Marianne!
What you mean is you want to tag one of your friends in a random place
of your post, likeI've met up with John Smith this morning and we
decided to go for lunch after work?
Now this is not gonna be a strictly iOS suggestion although I believe
it would work there:
Whenever you want to place a tag for some friend, put the following
string in your post:

@[id:name]
ID is the random bunch of numbers that each Facebook profile has as one
of the usernames.

You can find out the one your friend has by going to
http://graph.facebook.com/username
name is the full name of your friend as he/she put it in his/her FB profile.
so for example @[123456789:John Smith] will tag someone called John
Smith who happens to have such ID.
Now for some iOS advice: the original Facebook app can do that just
fine. Whenever you want to tag somebody insert the @ (at) sign and start
typing your friend's name. Suggestions will pop up above the edit field
with your post and you'll be able to pick one.

I'm sorry if it's not what you wanted to know.

Facebook Messenger: custom in-app sounds

2013-11-17 Thread Paweł Masarczyk

Hello list!
According to the changelog of the latest FB Messenger update, custom
in-app sounds are offered.
Where do I go about changing them and does it mean that custom sound
files can be imported via lets'say iTunes file sharing and used as
notification sounds?
I've searched all over the app, or at least I think so, and can't find
anything, while I've seen feedback of people who managed to give this
portion of the new update a shot.

Thanks in advance.
Looking forward to your reply.
best regards
Paweł

I don't need any bells and whistles. I just want the app to be
accessible and make it easy to make the recording and share it.

Thanks for any recommendations.

The Focus 14 is not supported in iOS 5.1.1. V. 6.0 was the first to
support the 14. The newer Focus 40 Blue does work on iOS 5, but not
the 14.

Good evening!

General/ Accessibility / Voice Over / Braille but the device doesn't

I'm wondering: is IOS 6 required to connect these two or is it something

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide me with.
