How Do You Get To the Draft Email Box On the iPhone:

RE: I Can Receive Email On My Phone But Cannot Send Email From My Phone
Mark: I'm pretty sure that I've done all of this. But, of course I'll try again. I also have a call into Earthlink Tech support. Thanks, -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of M. Taylor Sent: Thursday, August 14, 2014 3:13 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: I Can Receive Email On My Phone But Cannot Send Email From My Phone Hello Tamara, The short answer is that you probably have your password encryption, on the phone, set incorrectly. Unlike in the old days, it is not enough to enter the correct username and password; items such as SSL certificates and how the password is encrypted must also be addressed. As if this were not enough, some internet service providers (ISPs) insist on a certain type of encryption be used in order to send mail from their SMTP servers. They do this in an attempt to prevent spam from being sent from their servers. Again, in keeping with the short answer, and assuming that you want to learn how to do this for yourself, I suggest that you go through each item in the mail configuration area and explore it thoroughly being careful to listen for any item that is labeled as a button. When you encounter any button, even if it seems self explanatory, activate it and explore each item within it. If you do this correctly, you will find that at times you will have drilled down several levels which, can be a bit confusing, at first. Pay special attention to any items that are labeled as pop-up buttons. Explore the pop-ups especially if they have anything to do with security. So, getting your SMTP server settings correct is not difficult but it can be a bit tedious. In fact, one of my least favorite things to do is to configure mail server settings for unfamiliar domains and/or mail hosts. Hard Drive crash and iTunes Match Question
Hi All: For the past six months, I have painstakingly reinstalled over 1600 CD's onto a new external hard drive in an effort to recreate and clean up my iTunes library. Unfortunately, a couple of days ago my external drive completely crashed and is unrecoverable. I am wondering since I just recently decided to join iTunes Match, would that service be a way for me to reinstall my library on a new hard drive? In other words, would there be a way that I could download all of the music onto a new drive? If not, does anyone know of a software package that will detect and remove duplicates and broken links. If I could clean up the old library, I could use it. Any help greatly appreciated. Thanks, Tamara -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Even if you hit the limit, you should still have the first 25,000 tracks, though. RE: Weird Beeping Problem
Hi Sieghard: I did plug her unit into the same charger that I was using for my iPad mini. It is the signature standard Apple issued charger and cord not a third party item. Also, we are not using the same user ID and password. My sister's unit had not been upgraded to the latest version of the software and I thought by doing that we might get rid of the beeping. However, I upgraded the unit and it started beeping soon after the upgrade was complete. Thanks for any suggestions. By the way, her unit is probably 18 months old. It measures your heart rate without a heart rate monitor. All you do is start the app, then put a finger lightly onto the camera lens. After a moment you hear your iPhone beep at your heart rate and after 6 or 8 seconds it vibrates and you can remove your finger. Don't ask me how it works, but it does seem to work. You can then save the reading, you can also create an account or sign in with Facebook since of course nowadays all your friends need to know all that you do including what your heart rate is. OK, so that part is ridiculous, but this does really seem to work rather well although I have not had time to really explore the app as to accessibility. I did notice that this morning when I did this and after I saved the app, Voiceover did read the date and time of the reading and said my average heart rate was 58 bpm which I assume stands for beats per minute. It does display some sort of graph so maybe parts of the app may not be accessible, but maybe the developer can also improve things a bit if he gets some messages from blind users. I wouldn't necessarily tell him I got his app for free on a promo, but that's really beside the point. Oh, and Happy Valentine's Day to all the ladies, maybe this app arrived just in the nick of time and you can use it to check your heart rate remains in save limits after that romantic dinner *smile*. I don't know if you are a Jaws user or, for that matter, a PC or Mac user, but if you do use a PC even if it is with a different screenreader you may get something out of this. Jonathan's work is typically comprehensive, polished and professional and I think this FS Cast and the next one for January are must-listens for anybody who uses iTunes with Jaws. It so happens that his original 2-part series about using iTunes 10 with Jaws 12 were the FS Casts for December 2010 and January 2012, so exactly 2 years ago and while I felt fairly comfortable with iTunes before listening to them I still learned from them. I for one want to thank Jonathan for redoing these to reflect the changes in iTunes 11 as well as Jaws 14 and it's awesome that these are already there for us even though iTunes 11 was only just released-great work, Jonathan. I am usually the first who agrees that thank-you messages should be directed directly to a person and I still think so, but I thought that in the context of my message mentioning Jonathan's contributions to our community was simply giving credit where credit is due. But let's all keep in mind that if you also want to express this in a one-liner like Yes, I agree, thanks Jonathan, please keep Raul's rules regarding this in mind. Anybody who is interested in the Podcast can either subscribe to FS Casts with their favourite Podcast app or find them at www.FreedomScientific/fscast. RE: Help with wordZINGA, please
Hi: When you start the game the first screen presents several options one of which is play. Once you choose play, you can choose to start a new game or continue one that has already started. If you choose to play one that is already in progress, then you click on the score and the game is brought up. Either way, once a game is presented, you are presented with the following: Note, that you can swipe from left to right or that you can move your finger down to find these. First, is the word score and the number, next is 108th badge (I've yet to figure out what that means), Next is the help button, then the words word bonus and the actual number of points that you will get if you do not use any help. After that is the word streak and the number of words that you have solved without using any help. Immediately after that is the word that is to be solved. After that is the word possibility and the number of available words that fit the puzzle. Then the word hints and the number of available hints that you can get for this word. Below that is a grid with the alphabet. Note, that instead of a standard keyboard, you are given the letters in four rows in alphabetical order. This makes it harder at first, but you get use to it quickly. On the very bottom row is a word zinga button (slightly to the left of the home button, and a clear button to the right of the home button. Now for playing: The puzzle is a word in which you are given a few (usually 2 or three but in advanced puzzles sometimes as many as five) letters. The given letters cannot be moved. You have to come up with one word that has letters in all of the blanks and uses the letters in the position where they have been placed. When you think of a word that will fit you type it using the keyboard and leaving out the letters that already are in place. Once you put in the word you tap the word zinga button. If the word works, you get a chime, if not, you get a crunch sound. To get rid of the bad word and try again, press the clear button. You can get rid of one letter at a time by pressing the letter. So, for example, if you put in a word and accidentally type the wrong letter or want to change only one letter, go to that spot in the puzzle and double tap. The blank will reappear and the letter that you type from the keyboard will go into that spot. A couple of other things: If you can't figure out a word, you can use help. You can ask it to reveal one of the words that are a possibility. However, by doing this you start over with bonus points. The number that is added to your score represents the bonus points. So, for example, currently, in one of my puzzles I have 1350 bonus points. When I solve the next word, that amount will be added to my score if I do not use any hints. The number of points that you get for a word continues to grow until you use the help again. Also, when you first start a game, you have only 5 opportunities to use help. This also grows as you play and don't use it. The maximum times that you can use help in a word appears to be 10. Finally, the game gets harder as you continue. So, at first you are filling in four letter words and eventually you get to ten letter words. Each time the game is increasing in difficulty, you go to a new level. This is also indicated on the screen and by a tone. I thought that there were only ten levels but I'm in level sixteen of my current puzzle so I have no clue how many there are for each puzzle. That should get you started. RE: Bluetooth earpiece limitations - was a good Bluetooth ear piece for the IPhone
Hi Seigard: Thanks for this info. I'll definitely be checking these out. Tamara -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, November 04, 2012 12:48 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Bluetooth earpiece limitations - was a good Bluetooth ear piece for the IPhone Hi Tamara, I actually use some pretty obscure ones I got from a sales rep I deal with. He represents some other brands of outdoor gear I sell at my store and he has picked up this line of accessories from a company called Outdoor Technology. They make a stereo Bluetooth headset, a set of stereo Bluetooth earbuds which are connected with a string so you can hang them around your neck and a speaker called the Turtle which is like the Jambox. On my iPhone the headset I have shows up as OT DJ Slims, OT stands for Outdoor Technology and I guess the model is called the DJ Slims. I do like them, sound quality is decent for books/music, not great but OK for phone calls and while I have not tested this a lot apparently they don't do much in terms of noise cancellation when there is wind etc. The website is www.OutdoorTechnology.com and if you google OT DJ Slims you do get a bunch of hits with reviews including aa 4 minute something YouTube video review. They sell retail for $69.95 and for that price they are definitely not bad, even better in my case since the rep sold me his show sample for half that. They do use Bluetooth 2.1 and Voiceover works fine as they do support A2DP. Apparently Outdoor Technology is working on a Bluetooth 3.0 version, but I am not sure when this will come out and in what way it will be better. I do like the fact that they do have skip forward and back buttons in addition to the volume up/down and power button. The button configuration has the big round on/off button in the middle, above are the skip forward and back buttons and below are the volume up/down buttons. They are also quite rugged with a traditional headband design and relatively large, square foam earpieces. They are not super light, but as I said, they do seem very stirdy and I find them comfortable to wear. The iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 both support Bluetooth 4.0, but I don't think I have seen anything other than Bluetooth 2.1 being used for the headsets I tried including the high-end Jawbone ones. I have a stereo Bluetooth headset which I used sometimes at home when I want to listen to a book while I vacuum or work in my woodworking shop and I don't want a cable and at the same time don't need to really use the phone. For anything else the earpods are my choice. And the earphone itself has nothing to do with whether or not VoiceOver and other auditory output is delivered well, That would be a function of the iPhone itself (or whatever device sending those signals) might be. What I mean is that the sound delivered to the earphone can only be as good as the sound as it is generated on the originating device. Myself, I've become fond of the Motorola Bluetooth Earphones -- there are several models and they tend to be extremely compact and don't stick in your ear(s) like a sore thumb. The microphone boom is really cool, too. It isn't really a boom so much as a sort of flap that folds off the earphone itself to lie flat against your cheek.
