4 finger single tap bug?

2013-09-21 Thread Victor Marques
On my iPad mini, I notice sometimes that the 4 finger single tap
towards the bottom of the screen (which should take you to the last
element on the page) does sometimes work, but almost just as often it
has some unpredictable result, such as performing a tap action for
example. Any of you able to repliccate this as a bug?

Thanks
Victor

Folders and VoiceOver... is this a bug?

2013-09-21 Thread Victor Marques
I'm wondering if this is a bug and if it's been reportedd or if others
are having this issue forgive me if this has been mentioned
already.

Folders now have 9 apps per page and multiplle pages, I understand
this. But when I open a folder, say with 15 apps, what VO reads for
me is the first line of 3 apps, plus the 4th app which is on the 2nd
page (not visible or available if I were to explore by touching the
screen) and then it moves on to the 2nd line of 3 apps, plus the first
app of line 2 on page 2, and then the same for line 3, so a total of
12 items are read. This shouldn't b happening, it should just read
the 9 visible apps in my opinion., otherwise it makes it difficuult to
find an app if you're not sure on which page it will be displayed.
Are others having this issue? I'm on an iPad mini if that makes a
difference.

Thanks
Victor

App Store Issue

2013-09-19 Thread Victor Marques
Hi,

I notice after upgrading to IOS 7 that one of my most used apps, Filer
(the paid version) is missing. Anyone else have this happen?

Now when I go to the app store to try to re-install it, I can find it
but there's no link to open, install or re-purchase. Any ideas why
this would be?

Thanks
Victor

dice world

2013-05-01 Thread Victor Marques
Hi all,

been away from the list for quite a while, good to be back.

Loving Dice World. Not sure if this has been mentioned, but in the ad
supported version if you find a long string of numbers and letters
once you have finished your turn, usually it is one of the last items
on the page, double tap and that will dismiss the ad, you can then
click the Back button or Play Next Game. Other times the ad has a
Dismiss button, that is easy to manage, and if your game totally
freezes up due to the ad being displayed, you can also force quit the
app in the App Switcher (double tap the Home key, then double tap and
hold Dice World until you hear "editing apps", then double tap it
again, then hit Dismiss App Switcher, then restart Dice World again).

I am simply Victor on Dice World and will play anyone at Yatzi and
Pig, I don't mind playing a few games of Farkle but it's not my
favorite but will still accept requests.

Are you satisfied with your iPad mini?

2013-01-20 Thread Victor Marques
Hi Eric,
I have the mini, which replaces my ipod touch 4g. I have the cellular
version and have to say that I am extremely happy with it.
Battery life is great, at least two days of hard use, and with the
help of Fleksy typing is a breeze. Being able to have the extra screen
real estate and run ipad specific apps was the deciding factor for me
in deciding to buy the mini rather than the ipod 5g. I don't have an
iPhone as I use voip apps for my calling and only therefore only need
data, so I replaced the mifi mobile hotspot I was using with my ipod
with a data plan and at the end of the day I get way more data for the
same amount of money. I an finding it to be a real joy to use.
Hope that helps.

Is there a limit to how many apps you can have on an IPod touch 4

2012-11-16 Thread Victor Marques
Hi Jen,

It sounds like you may have purchased apps that are iphone specific
and that can't run on an iPod Touch. I ran into this problem a while
back when I purchased some apps that were iPad specific through itunes
and then tried to sync them to my iPod Touch, so this may be a similar
situation.

You should check the app's compatibility with iPod Touch to see if
that's the case, if it is incompatible then you are out of luck and
you can use it only on the devices where it is compatible, even if it
is in your iTunes library. By the way, I used my app refund
allottment when I had this situation because I wasn't aware of this
(i.e. contacted Apple support to get a refund).

iPad mini and HQ voices

2012-11-15 Thread Victor Marques
Hi,

I love my new iPad mini but am curious to know something...
On my previous i Device (iPod 4G) I was able to use other HQ voices
besides the US HQ voice. I could do this by setting my region to
Australia, for example, to get the Australian Karen in HQ (it would
automatically download in about 10 minutes when plugged in).

On the new iPad mini this does not work. Changing my region still
keeps the US HQ voice. I can obviously set any voice in my language
rotor but even with the region set to Australia, it keeps the US HQ
voice and uses a compact version of Australian Karen as the default.

Does anyone else have the iPad mini and can you confirm this? What
about other devices (i.e. iPhone 5) running iOS 6.0.1? My iPod touch
4G seems to still allow this even with 6.0.1 installed but I also have
not changed my region for fear of losing the Australian HQ voice and
not getting it back.

Using the Australian voice as default

2012-09-25 Thread Victor Marques
Hi all,
I am using an ipod 4g so Siri differences in the region settings are
not important to me. In fact, having my settings in metric is what I
prefer anyway.
I hope this is something that can be fixed in a future update,
allowing more choice of voices and even hopefully more than one choice
per region.

Using the Australian voice as default

2012-09-25 Thread Victor Marques
I am in Canada and use the Australian voice as the default. I find
this voice to be far superior in quality to the standard voice and is
so much easier to listen to. For this to work properly you need to
change your regional setting. Go to settings, general, international,
region format and set to Australia. The voice automatically changes to
Australian English as default when this is selected. In about ten
minutes the HQ voice will appear and you can then decide to use it or
the compact voice by turning this on in VoiceOver settings.
Hope this helps.

Restrictions and Apps

2012-09-21 Thread Victor Marques
Hi all,
I have discovered that the Require Password setting in the
Restrictions panel of general settings affects whether a password is
required not just for paid apps, but for free apps and updates as
well. If you set this to Immediately, a password is required for all
app store transactions, be they free or even for updates. On the other
hand, the default 15 minutes setting will not require a password for
non paid downloads.
Hope this is interesting to some of you.

Wifi with IOS 6

2012-09-21 Thread Victor Marques
Hi,
Since upgrading to iOS 6 on my iPod Touch 4G, I am getting a periodic
screen where it is connecting to Apple for wifi hotspot authentication
and returning a Success page. From what I've read, this was the
source of the outage the other day for wifi.

This seems to happen every few minutes, I'm jjust using my own wifi,
and when it does this I am interrupted in what I am doing and have to
wait for the success message, and hit Done. Very annoying.

Is there any way to suppress these screens and have this done in the
background? Also, I find it intrusive that Apple is potentially
logging where I connect from. Should it not be up to a public wifi's
administrator to set up restrictions or connection requirements, not
Apple?

Hoping this resolves itself soon...

AirMeter

2012-08-28 Thread Victor Marques
Hi all,

I apologize for recommending AirMeter the other day. I do use it and
it is completely accessible, but upon researching how to pull it up in
the app store, it appears the app has been pulled and is no longer
available for purchase. It was not free to begin with., and it appears
there are other apps for the same price with similar functionality
that have been recommended by other users.

App suggestion needed for wifi usage

2012-08-26 Thread Victor Marques
Hi there,

I use an app called AirMeter. I find it is very accessible and
accurate. It allows for tracking of inbound and outgoing data over
both wifi or 3G, has an app badge to see usage quickly, estimates
battery remaining, etc. As I use a mifi device with my ipod touch,
with a data cap, it is very helpful in estimating my approximate data
usage for the month.

7" iPad to be launch this fall

2012-07-10 Thread Victor Marques
Hi,

There is a definite market for a 7" device, in my opinion. In my
case, I have very limited vision & use VoiceOver for the most part,
but still can try to make out a picture if needed, so this doesn't
lend itself to working well on my iPod or iPhone. I also find I don't
use the phone features of my iPhone much, and also never got the iPad
due to its size and considering it not to be as portable. So this is
the ideal solution for me, I'll be one of the first in line to check
it out when it arrives as it meets my visual needs, size needs, and
for the limited amount I need to talk to someone I can use an Internet
based phone service. Has anyone confirmed that it will be available
in 3G/4G, however? I have not heard anything on this, that would be a
dealbreaker if it was wifi only.

Victor
