airPod question
Hello iPhone listers, I have an airPod question. Sometimes, I want to just use a bluetooth speaker, but use an airPod to find the song or want to remove the airPods when I'm on a phone call or ZOOM conference. But as soon as I remove the airPod from my ear, my speaker cuts out. Is there any way other than not using the airPods in the first place, to seamlessly go from them to the speaker? OK, there is one more thing. Occasionally go in with a cotton swab inside the case with the swab soaked in alcohol and rub round, things can get messy in there. Egun On, Lagunak! An AirPod question
Greetings, I have a set of Apple AirPods, and today, when I removed them from the charging case, the one I needed most, (the right AirPod) had not charged, and it seemed to take forever to completely charge. I’m hearing impaired, and I admit that though wearinb both pods improves my ability to hear, I sometimes take out just one. Could that be the problem? I have some on order. I was worried about if they would stay in my ears or not, and have decided that without a wire to get caught on something, I should be okay. I just listened to the pod cast. You can play or pause by double tapping the airpod if you set it up that way. As far as volume control, you can use the player controls on your apple watch with the digital crown. Otherwise, yes, the phone controls are the only other way or Siri. I think I will set mine up so that taking one out of my ear will pause and replacing will play. RE: Airpod question.
Yes, I know you can say in the Settings if you want play/pause or SIRI and I assume if you are on a long flight and in Airplane mode you could change this, but I still am of the opinion that such an expensive set of wireless earphones which, according to Apple, is the most advanced and most amazing thing out there should let me do both and more. Sieghard, Well, I think your ideas here are constructive and, like you, I will probably hold off. I've now listened to the podcast by David Woodbridge, though I stopped just after the first section on working with the iPhone. I still think I'll take a look though the next time I'm in the Apple Store. However secure an earpiece appears to be, I too prefer to have a loop around the ear for extra safety. I agree with you it is a matter of preference. I tried them and did not like them at all. I could not fast forward rewind and could not do that. The pods did not fit securely. I then tried beatsx and did not like them. Mark, That made interesting reading for me and made me think that, just maybe, I'll take a demo, if one's available at the shop because they sound as though they were made for me! I can tell you that of all the 20+ Bluetooth headsets I've owned throughout the years, Apple Airpods are my absolute, without a doubt, favorite. I am amazed with how seamlessly they interface with iPhone. I absolutely love the fact that I can effortlessly switch from a single-ear to two-ear and back to a single-ear configuration, on the fly. The auto-ear detection is as close to magic as I've yet experienced on a Smartphone. If I am playing a song or listening to a book/podcast with Airpods, all I need do is to remove the Airpod from my ear and playback will pause and not resume until I place the Airpod back in my ear. Amazing! My favorite feature of Airpods, however, is how beautifully VoiceOver switches between Airpods and iPhone. With iPhone in my breast pocket, for example, and an alert comes in, that I want to explore privately, I simply place an Airpod in my ear and sound automatically transfers from the phone to my ear; when I'm done, I simply drop the Airpod back into either its case or a pocket, and sound automatically reverts back to iPhone. This may be difficult to believe but last night, I panicked when I could not find one of my Airpods only to have a sighted friend inform me that it was in my left ear. I know, I couldn't believe it either. Talk about being embarrassed; but they really are that comfortable. smile) Mind you, I am using Airpods with iPhone 6 Plus, only, so I can only imagine how much better they perform with newer iPhone models. Hi Eric, Good choice, I think the current Airpods are quite a rip-off and in fact I was at an Apple Store today to buy a headset for my wife as an anniversary present and I was looking forward to checking out the Beats Solo and walked away deeply disappointed. I am in Canada so the Beats Solo here is $329.95 + taxes and while they sounded OK I could simply not believe such a large and, according to Apple, advanced headset has no volume control. First the Airpods have no volume control and now the Beats Solo also has no volume control, if this is the wireless future Apple invisions they need glasses. I ended up getting her a pair of the new BeatsX since she prefers earbud style headsets anyways over big clunky ones. As for the Solo I can only say that in addition to the lack of a volume control the sound is also just OK, I mean it's good but not special for the price. I have listened to many a headset that costs between $150 and $200 Canadian and think they sounded just as good. Another thing I noticed is that the canadian price for the BeatsX is a lot more favourible than that of the Airpods. If I am not mistaken the BeatsX in the States are $149 and the Airpods are $159, a $10 difference. Here in Canada the BeatsX are $179 and the Airpods are $219, a $40 difference in our currency. If I use the current exchange rate and convert $149 for the BeatsX to canadian it works out to about $195 Canadian, but Apple Canada only charges $179 so compared to the US price it's actually a good deal. If I convert the $159 US for the Airpods to Canadian it is $208 or $209 so at $219 Apple put a 5% upcharge on it at least based on the current exchange rate. How a $10 US difference works out to be a $40 Canadian difference when $10 US is about $13.2 or $13.5 I don't know. All in all I think that currently you can get a much better bang for your buck if you look at third-party headsets and the Apple W1 chip to me seems very much overrated. In fact, apart from the admitedly simple pairing process and maybe the fact that any other Apple device that is connected to the same Apple Id is supposed to pair I don't see a big advantage. If you think of it the initial pairing process of a regular bluetooth headset is also easy and in my view just as simple. With the BeatsX you still have to push and hold the on/off button and the only difference is that a message pops up on the screen asking if you want to connect to them so you save yourself a few taps by not having to go into bluetooth settings and to double tap on a newly paired device. With the BeatsX I had to double tap on "Connect" and then on "Done" with a normal bluetooth headset I have to double tap on Settings, then Bluetooth and then on the newly found devic

Hi Alan, You currently cannot adjust volume or rewind/forward on the Airpods like you do with the inline remote on the Earpods. You can change it so that tapping the Airpods will do Play/Pause instead of bringing up SIRI, but that's about it. Yes, I know you can just get SIRI going and tell SIRI to Play or Pause or to change the volume, but there are situations where I may not want to talk into thin air in front of me to do this and for me these are basic functions I am looking for and it just doesn't make sense to me to push these Airpods as if they were the reinvention of the wheel and then I have to pull out my phone if I want to do something as simple as change the volume or pause my book or music without being forced to remove the Airpod from my ear. Hello Sieghard, First, I wrote in a previous post, that I believe these things are a matter of personal opinion. Second, I do not own an Apple Watch so cannot comment as to its compatibility with Airpods. Third, it is my opinion that one should refrain from commenting on how good or bad something is until or unless one has actually tried the device for himself/herself. (smile) Fourth, If memory serves, I believe I was the first, or one of the first, to recommend the Voyager Edge, on this list, so I know how wonderful it is. Personally, I disabled the auto-answer feature on my Edge as I found it not nearly as accurate as I would have expected. Finally, I will say, once again, it's all a matter of perspective. The BeatsX does not offer noise cancellation, just noise isolation. This means it plugs up your ear quite well and you don’t have much outside noise coming in, noise cancellation usually means the headset generates white noise to counteract outside noise. I think Airpods are well worth their price and that Apple, once again, has ushered in a new era of technology with this most innovative accessory. I am in Canada so the Beats Solo here is $329.95 + taxes and while they sounded OK I could simply not believe such a large and, according to Apple, advanced headset has no volume control. If I use the current exchange rate and convert $149 for the BeatsX to canadian it works out to about $195 Canadian, but Apple Canada only charges $179 so compared to the US price it's actually a good deal. Thanks for that information, I guess the Apple sales staff then needs better training because I could not figure out how to adjust the volume, each time I pressed anywhere it would either pause the music or start playing again or it would activate SIRI. The sales person I dealt with even ran off to talk to his supervisor and then came back and said they indeed did not have volume controls. Anyhow, here in Canada the Beats Solo are $329 and while they sounded good I don’t think they sounded better than a $200 Plantronics Backbeat Sense I once owned and currently this is just not a priority for me. I rather save my money until hopefully the next generation of Airpods is released with volume controls and hopefully more advanced features. I agree with respect to comfort and sound quality, but until they add a volume control they aren't getting my money. Also, Mark, what about the apparently terrible switching or not switching if you have an iPhone and an Apple Watch? My Voyager Edge also pauses playback when I take it out of my ear and when paired to my iPhone and Apple Watch it does seamlessly switch, if I listen to a book and my Apple Watch plays an alert or I press the crown to hear the time it instantly can be heard on my Voyager Edge and afterwards it almost instantly switches back to the iPhone audio. From all I heard this does not work nearly that well with Airpods when of course it should work at least as good or even better. Also, if the Voyager Edge and many other bluetooth earpieces support answering a phone call simply by saying "Answer" or send it to voice mail if I say "Decline" why don't the Airpods do something so basic and useful? Hello Keith, Fortunately, as far as I am concerned, the Airpods do not cancel anymore or less external noise than does the wired Earpods. Now, as I cannot stand headsets that fit into the ear canal, you know, the kind that make you feel as though you are almost completely cut off from the outside world, Airpods are a perfect match for me. Again, keep in mind that I do not like to lose any ambient noise. To answer two posters questions at once, they can be used while the phone is charging, being that they connect via bluetooth. As for noisy environments, they are no better than the wired earpods, which is to say, not very good. One can push the air pod into their ear further than it really is meant to be, and it is better, but that isn't very comfortable, at least for me. If you

Hey Mark, Thanks very much for this. What is your experience with how much noise isolation they provide when in noisy environments? Do they have sound quieting qualities, or is the external environment sound readily discernable? Re: Airpod question.
I was extremely disappointed in Apple. I went to the store a couple of days ago, which isn't real close to me, and asked to see the AirPods. They did not have any in stock and didn't even have one for demo. I thought they were much better at retail than that. I guess I will continue to wait and probably wait until the next generation. It seems there might be a few bugs left in design in operation. A window will pop up displaying the status of each airpod as well as the case battery level. The case can't transmit anything on its own which is why an airpod has to be inserted to check its battery level. You can always get battery info about your airpods using the battery widget in the today view while they're being worn. RE: Airpod question.
You can't turn them on or off and while I don't have a set of them I did try a pair at an Apple Store and I am pretty sure I remember that the battery status was displayed in the status line on the iPhone where this is usually showing for supported devices. I don't think you see how much battery is left in the case, though. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of M.
