Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-25 Thread Paul Hunt
I like the bard app. Maybe NLS will make it ICloud compatible so it can track
the place in a book across IOS devices.

In my case, the question would what book doesn't do it! Any book I listen to
on my phone, if I hear a sentence like "end of side 3" or any side number
you like, I know I'm going to be sent back to the beginning of the chapter,
section, or article I'm reading. I've pretty much stopped reading Bard books
on my phone because of this problem. It happened on my iPhone 4S and my
iPhone5s as well.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-19 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi there, you can do this with the Audible app if you have the book
downloaded on both devices. This is because the Audible app will sync
your position with Audible and it will be noted when you start listening
on another device. So, NLS bard would have to do this to get what you
want. You might write them and ask.

That's odd. I have an iPhone 4, an iPhone 5s and an iPad air. I haven't
experienced anything like what you describe.
I have the bard app on all my devices. I would love to see the ability to
start reading a Talking Book on one device and pick up where I left off on
another. Even if it means downloading the same book to each device. Still, it
can be done by looking at the time such as 3 hours, 13 minutes, 43 seconds.
Even with out that I love the bard app.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-19 Thread Richard Ring
In my case, the question would what book doesn't do it! Any book I listen to on
my phone, if I hear a sentence like "end of side 3" or any side number you
like, I know I'm going to be sent back to the beginning of the chapter,
section, or article I'm reading. I've pretty much stopped reading Bard books on
my phone because of this problem. It happened on my iPhone 4S and my iPhone5s
as well.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-18 Thread Wayne Merritt
I hope that those that are encountering this issue are taking the time
to email BARD and let them know. When doing this, let them know the
book's or magazine's title, author, and book number. I have found them
to be very responsive. If they don't know about it then they can't fix
it. The BARD Mobile support email address is:
bardmobilesupp...@loc.gov
I am hesitant to read any books longer than 15 or 20 hours because of
this very issue, so definitely let them know so they can look into and
perhaps even isolate the problem.

yes, now that you mention it, this is definitely one of the times. I had fallen

Well, it is good to know someone has seen this. I have seen it on a couple
books. The most recent one is "Killing Jesus" by Bill O'Riley. It occurred
between chapter 10 and 11.
I am sorry to hear that the library is not more responsive.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread SSEric
I think someone mentioned a few months ago this happening on books that were
copied from audiocassette. I have had it occur on a couple of books. Actually,
however, I have never gone back to see if the words were actually repeated or
if there was just a skip.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread ROBERT CARTER
Hi,

I have also experienced this problem. For me, it tends to happen when I move a
long way backwards in a book. For example, if I fall asleep and the next day, I
back up maybe 30 minutes or so to get back to where I was before falling
asleep, it is likely that at some point while listening, the book will suddenly
jump back to some where in the previous chapter. It is very frustrating and
disconcerting.

Unfortunately, they have to be able to replicate it to do anything about it,
and I can't even replicate it in the same book.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread Arnold Schmidt
I have had it happen a few times, but infrequently enough that I do not
remember specifically the last incident. As was pointed out by another
poster, it seems to happen more frequently with books that have been
converted from cassette, when a track change announcement is given. But
then, when I get to the point again, that track announcement is not
announced, and the book doesn't skip back. This may be a hard bug for them
to fix, being that it is very inconsistent. Plus, it has happened less
frequently with books that were digital from the beginning.

Hi all,
I have noticed that while listening to a book from BARD on the iphone, the
book will suddenly began repeating something that has already been read.
As a matter of fact, it will be several minutes.

Is this a BARD issue or the way the book is formatted? thanks.

RE: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread Richard Turner
This has never happened to me.
It sounds like it may be an issue with one particular title. It is always a
good idea to Email your local Regional Library when this happens and give
them the title and approximately where in the book the issue comes up. They
usually take care of this kind of thing fairly quickly.

HTH,
Richard

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread Kimber Gardner
I've had this happen most often on books converted from cassette, also
most often at a point where reading has reached the point of needing
to switch tracks. I'm not sure why this happens but would suggest
letting nls know about it.

RE: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread Lois Butterfield
I have bought audio books on CD where they replayed the last sentence or 2
when switching CDs, sort of to review I guess. I wonder if these are
recorded from CDs where they did that.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread Alan Paganelli
I really wish that the Bard app would let you start listening to a talking book
on your iPhone and let's say you came in the house and picked up your iPad and
opened the bard app there and hit the play button and the book would start
playing from where you left off on your iPhone. The only way I know how to do
it is to have a copy of the same book on both devices and make note of the time
when you hit the stop button such as 3 hours, 27 minutes. Then when you open
the same book on another device you have to jump to that same exact same time.
It's doable just a pain where you sit.

Re: BARD BOOKS ON IPHONE

2014-02-15 Thread Craig Werner
Denise, do you mean that during the same session, reading will
suddenly jump back a few minutes, causing BARD to repeat text, or do
you mean that when you open a new BARD session that the app will not
remember where you left off and will repeat some material read during
the previous session? I have never had the first problem but have
sometimes had the second. I can't isolate the circumstances that
cause BARD to forget where it has stopped reading during the last
session.
