Re: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8
On my Dad’s (formerly mine) 5S, last night, the battery during the night, dropped from 49 to 16%. I too turned off Screen Tie hoping it’ll better the battery behavior. The 5S will be two years old this NOvember, thus I’d imagine the battery is still alright? Re: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8
When did you update to IOS 12? One thing I can tell you is that when you first get it you will see battery drain for a few days as the operating system acclimates itself to you and your phone. From what I've read there are several things going on in the background as the new software settles in. Indexing files and things like that. You'll find a few new cool features under battery that will show you a good deal of information about what apps are using battery and what hours your phone consumed the most battery. If you have it set to show you the past 24 hours, you'll see hour by hour usage. On 9/23/2018 6:58 AM, John J. Fioravanti, Jr. wrote: Good morning: I am using the Iphone 8 with IOS 12. region tracking appear in the status bar?, in other words, should I keep it on? From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2018 08:33 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8 As far as region tracking I would try to go through all the apps in location services including the system settings area at the very bottom to find out which app is using it, could very well be that previously turned off apps got turned on during the update. Do you have any sort of home automation devices such as a connected thermostat, Ring video doorbell, smart lock, lights etc? Often they use geofencing to track whether you are home or not. Another area as I said is the system area where you have things like time zone, location based reminders etc. Lastly, when did you update? Did you close all apps before updating and do a reboot of the phone? These are not things Apple may officially recommend, but I find it’s good practice and it can avoid issues, even better is to do a Reset Network Settings after you close all apps in the app switcher and before you do a major update. Another consideration is this: somebody had posted an article where the author said that often after an update the iPhone may drain more rapidly for a few days because iOS is doing a lot of reindexing of files and so on. If you updated recently have you done an additional reboot after your phone came back up after the update, i.e. turn it off completely for a minute or so, then turn it back on? If you have or if that doesn’t help I suggest you try to go to Settings > General > Reset and do a Reset Network Settings now, it can still do a lot of good. Make sure you quit all apps in the app switcher first and remember that you need your WiFi password since you have to reconnect to your WiFi after a Reset Network Settings. Also, if you had called your iPhone something like “John’s iPhone” you have to go to Settings> General > About and edit the name to what you want, during a reset network settings it is reset to simply “iPhone”. Finally, if all that doesn’t help and you already upgraded last Monday and the battery still drains very fast then you may have to do what Mario had to do with his iPhone SE which is to do a complete restore to factory settings and set up the phone from scratch. RE: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8
Hi John, I remember someone saying a few days ago that for the first few days on iOS 12 the battery will go down faster, but after that, things will get better. Evidently, the phone is doing software stuff like indexing. Unfortunately with a quick search, I can’t find the post where I saw that. Good Luck! Re: Does having screen curtain on save battery power?
thanks for this, when I was setting up my new iPhone 8, bought after the death of my six, I seem to remember turning off something called "true tone". I think it was under settings/display and brightness. do you think I should turn back on? also, where is it documented that VoiceOver and screen curtain will put the brightness at zero? Just go to Accessibility Settings > Display Accommodations and make sure auto brightness is on. It seems that now if it is on and you turn screen curtain on brightness is set to 0% and if you turn screen curtain off the auto brightness kicks in and adjusts it to an appropriate level. Anyhow, open Accessibility Settings, you are looking for “Display Accommodations”, it’s the fourth item from the top after Voiceover, Zoom and Magnifier. As for brightness dropping to 0% when auto brightness is enabled and screen curtain is on this does seem to be the case although when I first tried this it didn’t seem to be so. When I first toggled screen curtain on and checked it still read the same value as before, but once I locked my phone and then unlocked it it was reading as 0% so it seems that if you turn on screen curtain the phone first has to lock and then as long as you keep screen curtain on when you unlock it the screen brightness is indeed at 0%. Regards, Sieghard turn auto brightness off and then manually set your brightness to 0% or 5% if you want just a bit of backlighting. Also, just as a little tip which I think many of us forget, when you can’t find a particular setting but pretty much know a word from it’s title, just try the search field at the top of the main settings screen. If you type either “auto” or “brightness” or even “bright” the setting for adjusting auto brightness shows up in the list of matches. It even reads the settings group where you find that setting. Now, here is an interesting item: Auto Brightness exists twice, once in General > Accessibility > Magnifier and also General > Accessibility > Display Accommodation. If you tap on the item in the search results it does take you to the Accessibility Settings, but interestingly enough not straight into Display Accommodations. When I checked Magnifier the setting for Auto Brightness there was turned off on my phone although it’s turned on in Display Accommodations. RE: Does having screen curtain on save battery power?
Hello Nimer, I agree for the most part as long as you have auto brightness on which rarely puts your brightness about 20 or 25% unless you are outside in bright sunlight. I would say you might notice a difference if you set it to 90% manually or 0%, though. Whether given exactly the same usage (difficult to do) you would save 10 minutes or 1 hour I don’t know, somehow I doubt it would be 1 hour, though. I rarely turn on screen curtain anyways and I can’t be bothered to set my phone to 0% manually so that every time I want to show my wife something I have to turn it up. If for some reason I turn on screen curtain I usually remember when I show the phone to somebody and they tell me the screen is black. What’s very interesting is if you tell somebody “Hey,m look at that picture of my dog, isn’t it cute” and you have screen curtain on and they are so embarrassed that they say “Yeah, that’s a great picture”. Sort of like that story of the queen who walked around the palace naked and asked everybody if they didn’t think her dress was beautiful and nobody wanted to say anything against her *smile*. It’s a good way to find out how comfortable somebody is with the fact that you are blind. Re: Question About External battery Power From Anker?
I got the battery from Ravpower that's 9000 mah with a little lightning connector built in, and I think it delivers at least 2 amps on that connector, and even the 6 seems to charge faster with it than the wall plug does. I think most of these chargers now automatically detect the maximum current so you don't end up frying stuff. - Original Message - From: Chris Smart To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Friday, June 05, 2015 1:39 PM Subject: Re: Question About External battery Power From Anker? yep. my 6 Plus charges with the newer iPad charger which I believe delivers 2A. RE: Battery Power: -- how to remove recents from app switcher
The exact steps to remove the recents from your app switcher. 1. Open up Settings 2. Double tap on Mail, Contacts, and Calender 3. Swipe right until you get to the Contacts section or use the navigate by headings to get there 4. You will hear an option "Show in app switcher"; double tap on it. 5. You will have an option to turn off Phone Favorites and Recents I am turning both off to see if I can detect any battery life improvement. Thanks to Arun Gaala who called Apple Accessibility to get these steps. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com [mailto:viphone@googlegroups.com] On Behalf Of Michael McKay Sent: Tuesday, October 07, 2014 7:21 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Battery Power: Hello! Re: Battery Power:
Hi Michael. Well I have had battery problems with my 5s. I did the following, and it seems to solve the problem. i ran my phone totally down for battery took the sim card out of the phone connected the charger for 20 minutes and inserted the simcard again. After that things seems to work again, I got the explanation that it had something to do with reset the networks settings. I do not know if it is the case, and I am not advicing anyone to take the sim card out especially if you have not tried it before, but it worked in my case - strange. Best regards Annie. Hello! Folks: i'm wondering if any list/group members, have been having problems with their battery power running down to soon. I have found with the new iOS 8.02 that this is been the case with me. RE: Battery power
Hi Simon, That is a question nobody can really answer precisely because it depends on so many factors. For example: is your WiFi turned on all the time, is your Bluetooth turned on, do you have email accounts configured, if so, how many and are they using Push to retrieve messages, do you use location based reminders or other apps that use location services, how many apps do you have that send you push notifications, are you on a 3G or LTE network. I think for the most part you are doing OK if you get through the day, e.g. you unplug your iPhone at 7 or so in the morning and your battery lasts with normal usage, maybe doing some phone calls, doing some email and so on and you get home after work and are down to 20% or so.There are many battery saving tips, they are easy to find if you google "battery saving tips for the iPhone" or something like that. You have to decide for yourself what is acceptable to you since some people may suggest to only fetch email once an hour or manually, to always turn WiFi and Bluetooth off, to disable all push notifications and to turn off location services for all apps etc. To me putting such severe restrictions on my phone is not acceptable, I own an iPhone so I can take adavantage of all the iPhone can do and if I turn off half the features then maybe that is OK for some, but it's not OK for me and I rather charge my phone every night than to turn off everything so that maybe I get 2 days out of it.
