This seems to be how a few audio apps work. Sent from my iPhone On Jan 15, 2015, at 6:48 PM, Neal Ewers neal.ew...@ravenswood.org wrote: Hi Eileen. I can confirm your volume findings as well. This is exactly what happened to me. I actually put on head phones thinking the volume would always be low, but when the person came on line, it was very very loud. Actually, it was just about the same volume as it should have been, but I was tricked by the soft speech at the beginning. And even when I closed the app, the volume never came back to normal. Only when I took it out of the app switcher. Hello All, I just want to report back my experience with the Be My Eyes. When I tapped on the button to connect to a sighted person, the click sound feedback from VO reduced in volume. Once the sighted person was connected to me, the volume returned to the lavel that it was set to. The individual that assisted me gave good instructions in correcting the bottle. I needed to identify if the bottle was shampoo or conditioner. I received the response promptly. I decided to use the app because Digit-Eyes couldn't find the barcode on this item. It was a pleasure to have something similar to BizWiz once again in the ability to ask a question in real time. The only wait time was to be connected to a sighted individual, but once that occurred the amount of time to receive a answer was quick. I'm hofing that in the future that the business model will be reasonable. This app is definitely a winner. You work with a real person with this app. They can tell you how to hold the camera so they can better see what you are trying to discover. Tap Tap See is just a picture you send off to a crowd source and if you have only half of the picture in the frame, they will have to describe it from what they can see. Hi All, I’m just wondering out loud here. How is be my eyes any different then Tap Tap See etc. Be my eyes is free at the moment however if Tap Tap See was anything to go by, this app will be abused as well by people taking all kinds of pictures and mostly playing rather then real need. RE: Be my eyes now available in the US App Store.
I don’t think Alan said he was being forced to use this. He was, in my mind, wondering about whether people would use it for their entertainment rather than for their actual needs. Of course, we don’t have control over that, but it would be a shame if people took such advantage of this real connection with a sighted person that the developers of the app will be forced to charge for it’s use. Having said that, I also need to say that some amount of using the site will be necessary for people if they are to know how well they can expect it to work. Of course, how well it works will change with the person on the other end of the communication link, but we do need to have some experience with the app before knowing that we can use it in and emergency. I didn’t really need to know the information about the picture on my wall I asked about yesterday, but I felt I needed to see how it worked for starters. If everyone who purchases the app feels they need to do this at least once, then there will be more use of the facilities at first then there may be at a later date. Perhaps some of this could be avoided were someone to do a podcast on this and actually walk through how it works with by using it to communicate with the sighted person. It varies in that you are working with a sighted person in real time. Tap Tap See now charges for the service because the sighted workers are paid. These are volunteers. I would not worry about this policy changing, because this decision is up to those in charge, and I'm not about to jump the gun unnecessarily. As for people playing around with the app rather than using it strictly seriously, that's their prerogative. I won't tell them how to, or not to, use the service. Hi, Good luck Rose. I spent two days unexpedely in the hospital two weeks ago and I thought up until that point that keeping everyone's medication in exactly the same spot all the time was the perfect solution. It was not. One person came in to help someone in the house out and moved everything in a well-meaning attempt to help out and it took two weeks to get all our prescription and over the counter medications straight. We use Walgreens who does not really have a decent solution for talking prescriptions and I have not found a good iPhone app obviously due to the shape of the bottles. I could use CVS but they do not deliver and they charge more than Walgreens as does our insurance company delivery service. So Walgreens and back to keeping things in the exact same place for now it is. Merv -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Hello, Yesterday I needed to identify a hair product that DigitEyes would not pick up. Since I had downloaded the app earlier in the day, I decided to give it a spin. This app reminds me very much of VizWiz, but has taken object recognition to the next level. The beauty of this app is that it is done in real time, with the helper giving you instructions in the optimum position to give the blind individual the information one wants. The tremendous advantage of Be My Eyes over TapTapSee is that one can ask specific questions about the item in question. With all apps like this, one should use good judgment in having sensitive or personal information not identified. This is to protect your own identity and security. That said, I was impressed in the rapid response and obtaining the information I needed. With VizWiz, it could take almost all day to get a response. I hope this assists others in giving the app a spin. Also, on a podcast I listened to this morning stated that they are a nonprofit organization and funding will end in September. Who knows what the business model will be, but in my opinion it would be worth The cost if it's reasonable to continue the service. The ability to receive accurate information is the quenching factor for me and that's a big difference from TapTapSee. Re: Be my eyes now available in the US App Store.
I just tried the app for the first time and found out that a package of vacuum cleaner bags that I had are identical to the ones I just received in the mail. Now, I have plenty. I also found out some things about my portable chess computer that I did not know. The conversation went very well, and the person's whose eyes I borrowed was very friendly and congenial. She and I both are using an iPhone 5, and we both signed up yesterday. I found it interesting that he knew my name when she answered the summons. She said that Charles is sending a request. I also noticed that the volume of the phone greatly decreased during the wait for a contact, but it does play some tones that let you know that the app is still trying to connect. She also said that I have a really good-looking Labrador Retriever. He walked in front of the table I was setting things on to be viewed. I think this app is really awesome, and that it will be extremely helpful. It is very simple to use, and worked successfully the very first time. The camera on the back of the phone is the active one. If you get too close or too far away, it will be blurry, but she was able to direct me on how far to hold the camera from what should be viewed. As a blind person, this may take practice, but it really worked well. --- Be positive! Re: Be my eyes now available in the US App Store.
Playing around is wonderful. A couple summers ago, I was camping with my girlfriend. I wanted to take a picture of the campfire, and post it to Facebook. If I had simply taken the picture without tap tab see, I would not have known for sure what I had focused upon. Re: Be my eyes now available in the US App Store.
No, works on my iphone5. If you look for the app in the app store, there should be a section where you can see what devices it is compatible with. RE: Be my eyes now available in the US App Store.
Hi Eileen.
