Re: An IPhone/Braille Device question

2021-11-04 Thread Duane Steele
Thank you, Anna, for reminding me of a braille command I should have
remembered, i.e. the space bar plus p for pausing unwanted speech. This sudden
outburst of speech is a relatively new quirk when using an external keyboard
like a Braille device. In fact just now I had it happen again. When it does, in
case it should happen to others, and you press the space bar plup p, be sure
and check to see where your cursor is before continuing to type, and then, if
it's not where you last saw it, you can change the position before continuing
to write. Again, Thanks to Anna for solving my dilemma with the Braille device.

Re: An IPhone/Braille Device question

2021-11-04 Thread Anna Dresner
Hi Duane,

Pressing P with Space is the same as tapping the screen with two fingers; it
starts and stops speaking. You can also press Space with M to mute speech, and
then use the same command to turn it back on.

Best,
Anna

An IPhone/Braille Device question

2021-11-04 Thread Duane Steele
Hello Listers,

I can't remember if this issue has been addressed. But when writing with my
Braille display with speech on, sometimes it starts speaking and the only way
to stop it is by pressing the space bar, which, of course moves the cursor away
from where it should be. Is there any way to stop this sudden interruption when
writing in Braille on my device? Thanks for any help with this strange problem.

Re: A Braille Device Question

2021-07-26 Thread Duane Steele
Thank you, Richard, for that sage advice. Locking the phone and turning off the
device and then unlocking the phone makes perfect sense. The TV APP is one of
those that doesn't work in the locked screen. Don’t every just wish things like
technology would actually get easier to use instead of creating more questions
and issues? (frown) I trust everyone on this list is having a good day.

Dwayne,
That is mostly user choice.
But, remember that iPhones and braille displays have a fragile relationship.
You don't want to turn on or off the braille display unless the phone is locked.
Some movies/tv show apps stop playing when you lock the phone, well, they
pause. IN any case, they often will continue with just a two finger double tap
even though the phone is locked. So, try locking the phone, turning off the
display, then unlock the phone if necessary.
You only really need the braille display on if you are reading captions.

Hello Anna,

Thanks for your reply, I hope I find you well in these anxious times.

The Apex is the only device that he has attempted to pair with his new iPhone
SE2020.

The iPhone says to check the Apex is ready and the correct pairing code is
used. We are using four 0’s and double-tapping the pair button at top left of
the iPhone’s display.

Any further suggestions most welcome.

Hi Malcolm,

Have you tried restarting both devices? Also, if they have ever installed other
braille displays, try forgetting them from VoiceOver/Braille Settings, as the
iPhone often has trouble connecting with one display if it's also connected to
others. Resetting the phone may also help.

Best,

Anna

When we try to pair via Voiceover and Braille Apex is shown as expected and

I read the following from Applevis.

If you run out of time when typing the code, just try again. After three
attempts, you

will not be able to keep trying. To fix this, return to settings, general, and
this time

select Bluetooth. From there, select the Apex, then double tap the "forget this
device"

button. This should let you try three more times to pair, as instructed above.

If the Apex does not appear when you scan for braille displays, check that your
Apex's

name is set properly (described above), make sure that Bluetooth is enabled on
both

devices, make sure that the Apex is in terminal mode, and make sure that you
had not

already tried several unsuccessful pairing attempts (you must forget the Apex,
as

described in the previous list item, if this is the case). Also, you must not
have used the

Apex's connectivity menu to try to pair or activate anything on the iTouch. If
you have

done this, you must remove pairing and deactivate all services from the Apex's

Bluetooth menu, as described in the Apex manual.

Unfortunately I don’t have access to the manual or the device so don’t know how
to remove pairing and deactivate all services from the Apex's

Bluetooth menu.

Any help welcome.

Yes, space with b or dots 1,2, activates the back button which is pretty much
hitting escape.
Glad it works and hopefully others will be helped by this.

that doesn't work. In spite of the huge amount of traffic on this list that I
don't pay much attention to, I have learned a lot since recently joining this
list, and I appreciate the work others put into finding out stuff. I was glad
to see all the response concerning the Country Music series which for me has
become a love/hate series. I'm thinking of writing an editorial post on my
Facebook page which I'll gladly share with folks on this list who express
interest in reading it, assuming I actually get it written. You can message me
off-list for this possible forthcoming document.

Subject: A braille device question

Hello All,

I'm using a BrailleEdge 40. Every once in a while, I accidentally find myself
pressing the space-bar and dots 1 and 3 and going into help mode. I know I can
use the 4-finger double-tap on the phone to get out of the help mode. But is
there a braille command for getting out of Help directly using the Braille
device, or is the double-tap command on the phone my only option. Thanks for
any input on this minor issue.
