Bracelet extensions sound pretty good. I wear mine on my shoelace and I've
been getting better results on my shoe than on my arm because my arm doesn't
move that much.

I've read that folks have used jewelry bracelet extenders on their Fitbit to be
able to wear on their ankle. That said though, that doesn't' mean that simply
wearing on your ankle will give you an accurate reading for steps if that's
what you're looking for.

Hi, Ari!

I'm sorry I haven't gotten back to you sooner, but I was pretty busy over the
weekend.

I don't wear the Fitbit on my ankle because the arm band is very short. If it
were a little bit longer, I definitely would do that. This is why I attach it
to my shoe. I'm glad to help, so if you have any further questions, please
feel free to contact me. I can even give you my contact info if you'd like and
I can do this off-list if you need any more information. Thanks and take care.

Just a thought. And thanks for your answer about the ease of checking the
battery status with VO. That's a great thing to be able to do indipendently.

Hi, Keith!

As far as the heart rate goes, it'll give you a resting heart rate when you're
just standing, sitting, etc., and then when you do your exercise, it'll
increase, of course, and it might say "Fat-burn zone". Then when it goes up
higher it'll say "CardioZone". Then when you increase your heart rate even
further, it'll say "Peak zone", or something similar to that. I hope I
clarified this with you.

How much of the Heart Rate info is accessible? Will it give you a good sense of
heart rate variability over an afternoon, or just spot heart rate readings? I'm

Hi, Ari!

I have the Charge HR and love it! Yes, you can find out what the battery
status is when you touch the name of your Fitbit device, then double-tap on it,
and VoiceOver will say the name of the device, the version number of the app
and the status of the battery such as full, medium or low. Another trick I do
is not to wear the Fitbit on my arm, but when I tie my shoelace into a bow, I
push the Fitbit through the tied portion of my shoelace. I seem to get better
results for steps with the device on my foot. Call it cheating? LOL! Well, I
just get more steps from wearing it on my foot then on my arm. When I exercise
on the bike, though, I place the Fitbit on my arm so as not to get it caught in
the pedals. Then, as I Pedal, I place my Fitbit hand on my thigh so that it
registers. Hope this helps and good luck! You'll love this Fitbit.

All the best,
Esther Levegnale

2016-07-09 Thread Esther Levegnale

Awesome! This device is going on my wishlist! One important question I have is
about how to check the battery status. Can you do this through the app? Also,
is there an accessible user manual on-line somewhere?

Fit Bit [was "Re: Disable caller's name spoken when phone rings"]

2016-07-08 Thread Christopher Chaltain
I have the Charge HR, so it has the heart rate monitoring. The Fit Bit
app is accessible. You use the same Fit Bit app for all Fit Bit devices.
I don't think the full blown watch capabilities with the notifications
and all would be worth the money, since the Fit Bit band itself won't be
accessible. I'd agree, if you're going to go that route then get an
Apple Watch.

One feature I really like, which I didn't even know about when I got the
Charge HR, is that you can set alarms through the app. You don't need to
be connected to your phone for the alarms to work. I wake up just fine
when the band on my wrist vibrates, and it doesn't disturb my wife at
all. I don't even mess with my clock radio alarm any more.

My Charge HR also vibrates when I get a call. I also really like this
feature. Sure, I have my phone with me most of the time, but there are
times where it'll vibrate in my pocket, and I won't notice it. I never
miss the band on my wrist vibrating when I get a call.

There's something called the FitBit Blaze, which gives you some notifications,

but that's not very important to me, as it's probably not going to be

Yes, that is frustrating. I've long wanted to make the alarm volume low while
keeping the ringtone volume high. My husband is a very light slleeper, to the
point that a vibrating phone will wake him up. So finding something that will
disturb him as little as possible while waking me up at the same time (I'm a
rather heavier sleeper than he is, and even if I do wake up, am able to very
quickly fall asleep again if I do wake up from something making noise, my
husband doesn't find getting back to sleep easy) is very difficult.

You might be able to mess around with the ringtone volume and VoiceOver volume
(turn this on in the rotor). To get a good balance between loudness of
VoiceOver and your ringtone.

I had a similar query a few weeks back as I'm an early bird and my wife hates

Oh, wow! Really! Thanks for the suggestion! I thought only the Apple Watch
could do this. Any suggestions as to what I might purchase? Do these devices
also track sleep habits? I've always thought that would be kind of neat.

Hi Ari,

And there are a number of relatively inexpensive Bluetooth wristbands out there
which will wake you up with vibration and I don't think that sort of vibration
will be as noticeable as when a phone vibrates especially if it is lying on a
hard surface such as a wooden night table.

RE: Disable caller's name spoken when phone rings

2016-07-08 Thread Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D.
Hi,

I wonder if you could successfully use a third party app such as Alarmed.

I use my AppleWatch, and turn the volume down to 1% or 5%, and use the
vibration alert, too. One can even mute the alarm if you want, and just get the
vibration alert.

RE: Disable caller's name spoken when phone rings

2016-07-07 Thread Jeremy
You're suggestion made me very hopeful, but though I turned off the change with
buttons setting, the volume of the ringer seems to be tied to the volume of the
alarms. That is, if I leave the ringer volume low, and if I set an alarm for 1
minute, when the alarm sounds, it is presented at the same low volume as the
ringer. I'd really like the alarm to be loud but the ringer to be very quiet.
Thanks for any additional ideas.

Hello, the only way that I can think of this happening is if you turned off

Disable caller's name spoken when phone rings

2016-07-07 Thread Jeremy
Hi all,

Is there a way of disabling the announcement of who's calling me when my
phone rings? As is, when the phone rings, I also get VoiceOver very loudly
announcing the name of the person calling. Ideally, I'd like to simply hear
the phone ring. Any tips or tricks are very welcomed. :)
