Indeed. Although, GVConnect does offer more customization. One thing I've never
been able to get to work are push notifications in GVConnect.

GV connect versus Google voice

2019-04-13 Thread Tim Mehok
Hi,
I am trying to set up calling and texting on a data plan.
I was wondering if GV connect or Google voice would be a better
alternative as far as accessibility is concerned.
I also would be open to another alternative.

Many thanks,

Kevin, Ann said “I needed sighted assistance because of the captcha”. I don’t
use this service so I don’t know if it offers an audio captcha option and of
course I certainly have come across some audio captchas which simply were so
hard to understand that they were useless and while Firefox with Webvisum works

Re: gv connect on iphone 5s

2014-04-08 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hello there. There are two ways to do this. The first way will require your
real cell phone number to be an authorized forwarding number on your Google
voice account. as long as your cell phone number is an authorized number in
your account, go to settings inside GV connect. There is a section which is
labeled start calls from. When you double tap this section you can choose
various options. If you choose your iPhone number what will happen is that as
you make a call, GV connect will negotiate the phone call and you will receive
an incoming call into your real cell phone number. When you answer this
incoming call, your outgoing call will be placed through. As far as your cell
phone is concerned, you just received an incoming call from your Google voice
number. As far as the person you are calling is concerned, you just gave them a
call and the caller ID shows that you were calling from your Google voice
number.

The second way is similar, however instead of choosing your cell phone number
as the callback number, you can choose direct dial. What will happen is that
when you make a phone call from GV connect, it will use a temporary and random
assigned number from Google to make the outbound call. This temporary outbound
number is what Google has assigned for that particular number that you were
calling. As long as you call this number, your phone call will appear to come
from your Google voice number rather than you real cell phone number. In fact
what you can even do is take it a step further and if you want, you can make
phone calls outside of GV connect or you can send text messages outside of GV
connect from your iPhone, for example from the phone app or the messages app. I
use the word temporary, but what I should say is custom. Using these custom
Google assigned numbers you can create alternate contacts. What I usually do is
if I have a contact name John Smith, create another contact named John Smith
GV. This contact is the one with the Google assigned random number. If I text
John Smith to this number or call John Smith at this number, it appears as if
it is coming from my Google voice number rather than my real number.

I know I said that I had two ways, but there are actually three. This last
method however will not work after May 15 this year using GV connect. This
involves the use of another app called talk a tone which is free from the app
store. You must download and install talk a tone and configure it with your
Google voice account. Once that is done, you are all set. From GV connect
settings in the callbacks section choose Google talk instead of a phone number.
There is an option to enable talkatone. Now when you make a call from GV
connect, it will use talk tone as the carrier. This will not use your cell
phone minutes. It will use data. You can do this on Wi-Fi or cellular data.
Again, this method will not work after May 15 this year.

Good luck.

RE: GV Connect, Groundwire and SIP Clients

2014-03-14 Thread Joe
Hi, for the moment I took one of their free DID numbers from the New York
area. This means I can only receive calls, but it will be enough to test the
service reliability. I think there's a plan for $6, which isn't bad, but if
Obihai comes through with the $40/annual plan, that will be less expensive
and give you both land line and cellular functionality. The only other VoIP
service I have used is PhonePower, and while the service was great, it's not
the most cost efficient at just over $20 a month. But, it worked very well
with Groundwire, and I would recommend it if you need a solid service and
excellent tech support. So far with Callcentric though, things are looking
good.

Hi, if I may ask, which Callcentric plan do you have? I'm in the process of
looking for a number to use so when the current Google Voice changes over
after may 15 this year I'll still have an option since it's my primary

Re: GV Connect and Notifications

2014-03-06 Thread Eric Caron
Hi Raul,

How do I make sure GV Connect is allowed to run in the background? I
have not found a setting that sounds like that.

I do have Banners turned on for GV Connect in the main settings app in
Notifications.

I have just about everything working great in this app but can't get a text
tone yet! I'm sure I'm close to success.

Hello. I do not think anyone has answered this. You need to make sure that GV
Connect is allowed to run in the background. If it does, go into the
notification settings of the main settings app and make sure that it is enabled
and set two banners. It works on mine no problem.

Re: news about GV Connect

2014-03-04 Thread Raul A. Gallegos
Hi, yes, as I said in a prior message, GV Connect will continue to work.
It's possible they will remove the talkatone integration since Google
Talk portion will most likely not work because of the Google Voice
change, but that doesn't mean that GV Cponnect itself will be useless.
You can still use many more other Google Voice features after all.

Hi, if you are on iOS 7, then GV Connect runs in the background and will
ding when you get new messages. Be sure that sounds are turned on from the
Settings section of GV Connect itself. Only sound available is the glass
ding sound from iOS 6 and earlier since the sounds are part of the app
itself. If you want other types of notifications, then you will need to use
a push service like Push or Boxcar or Mailtones and have Google Voice send
incoming text messages to an email address which triggers the push. yes, if
you have a Google Voice number, you basically get texting for free even if
you don't have a real texting plan with your provider.

Hope that helps.

Hi, it's basically for you to have an alternate number for calls and
text messages. You get many features and it's free. You might learn more
if you do a Google search for Google voice, or just visit the Google
Voice page at http://voice.google.com. You can get a number for free.
The app GV Connect is one of many apps in the app store which will
access your Google Voice number and allow you to call or text from it.

Hope this helps.

Hi all. If you are a GV Connect fan as I am, or if you are looking for a
Google Voice app which works well and even better than Google's own app,
then you might consider GV Connect. I've written many times before about
this great app. I'd like to write yet again to say that the developer and I
have had a great dialog recently regarding some weirdness where voice over
is concerned in the latest update. One of the issues is that now when you
open an SMS conversation, it's very verbose. This is especially true if you
are using Braille. So, he's going to shorten that. There are other things
coming down the line to make the app even better, but I mainly wanted to
point out that it's because of this kind of developer feedback which helps
make an already awesome app even awesomer if that's a word.

Thanks much.

Hi, yes I asked him and he responded. The change in Google Voice in May

GV Connect and Notifications

2014-01-26 Thread Eric Caron
Hi listers,

Recently I tried to use GV Connect to fill in my missing gap in
texting. I don't have a texting plan and only texted other apple devices.
Using GV Connect and my Google Voice number I am able to successfully send and
receive texts from my non iPhone contacts. The only problem is no matter how
much I play with the notification Center I can't get it to send me a
notification when a text comes in.

Is anyone having success doing this and if so could you let me know
what your GV Connect settings are. And any other tips are also welcome.

Hi, if you want to block a number you can do it from the actions button.
Bring up the entry , from sms or a call history and you will see the
action button. From there you will have buttons like block, call, or sms.

GV Connect

2013-07-06 Thread Joe
Hi, I have a question about the GV Connect app which I can't find from
reading the app description. Will the app allow simultaneous accounts to
run, or does it only ring one account at a time? Thanks in advance.

Joe
