Re: Corrected link Google books results

2016-02-12 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
thanks for this! I will take a look. I wonder if things have changed since the
date of this article? I do note that there is an accessability link to make
more of the page available. I am also wondering if one can port a result to an
app such as KNFB reader to ocr the image? but then it starts to get very
complicated…

thanks again for all your efforts,
Sandy

If you have the KNFB Reaûer app, you can do a double-tap and hold on the immage
and open it in that app to be recognized. I think Prizmo or Textgrabber can do
this as well, but you might to double-check on that—I ûon't use Prizmo often,
and I don't own Textgrabber.

Accessibility/readability of google books

2013-07-23 Thread Kirsten Edmondson
When I refer here, in the subject line, to accessibility or readability of
Google books, I do not mean Google play books or any other related e-books.
Google books seem to be set and I believe are either pictorial
representations/graphical representations of the books and therefore are
unreadable to screen readers such as voice-over. I have found a book I am
desperately seeking but it is only available on Google books, andnot in any
other format. Before I give up on it, I wanted to see if anybody has had any
experiences of being able to read these books? Often, you canget a
Previous page button and next page button but it does not seem to speak any of
the actual text on the pages. This is my experience both with jawsand with VO
on my iPhone. I just thought I'd check to see if anybody has had any different
experiences.
Thanks in advance.

Re: Accessibility/readability of google books

2013-07-23 Thread Teresa Cochran
The Google books on the web that are not specifically ebooks are scanned
images. As far as I'm aware, the only thing you could try is scanning each page
and performing OCR on it. This seems extremely labor-intensive. Have you looked
for other sources? Unfortunately, it might almost be easier to get a hardcopy
outhe book if there are no ebook versions available anywhere.

 Hi, Marc,

You can try the easiest method first. Depending on your operating system,
look in your trash or recycle bin for Google books.ipa. Go into your ITunes
library and delete Google Play Books (the new version). Make sure it's
deleted from your device. Now restore Google Books.ipa to your ITunes
library, and sync your device. You may also be able to find the file in a
 backup.

You are replacing one app with another, so this is not a big change for your
 phone.

If you get word of an update for Google Books, investigate it carefully
before updating. Go to Applevis or somewhere on the web to be sure it's an
accessible version, or try it yourself if you care to.

I now have the older version of Google Books running on my IPod Touch, so
please don't hesitate to post questions if you have them.

There is another possibility. If you purchase the current version of Google
Play Books, then took it out of the ITunes library and off the device, it may
be possible to put the older version back. I have this version, and I imagine
others do, too. Someone could then send you the file via email attachment, and

Re: Google books

2012-05-15 Thread Teresa Cochran
Katey, I have no idea when this will happen, but you can always check with the
applevis site, www.applevis.com and see if anyone reviews more recent versions
as they come out.

It's a good thing you got back to the older version. It's definitely nice to
have books back. :)

Can Anyone Verify This Major Issue I'm Having With Google Books? Can't Turn Pages

2012-05-08 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, all,

I used to be able to use Braille commands to flip pages in Google Books.
Somehow, after I got the latest version, I discovered that I can't use the
Braille display to switch pages, nor can I use the page chooser. If I try using
the page chooser, it jumps all over the book, even with gestures on the
touchscreen. I've tried reinstalling the app.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible I have something set wrong? My
sighted husband says everything looks normal, however.

I'd really appreciate some assistance, as there were several books I hadn't
finished reading before this problem happened, and I'd also like to know if
it's an accessibility breakage.

Thanks,
Teresa

RE: Braille Command For Flipping Pages in Google Books?

2012-05-08 Thread Carrie Snodgrass
Teresa and Others,
I'm sorry, I had forgotten that the Google Books app had been updated. I've
tried flipping pages as well, and no luck. And of course, I didn't pay
attention when everyone was talking about how to retrieve an older version
of an app...apparently that's what we need to do, unless someone has other
ideas for us. What a shame. I have $50 wort of books to read!

Thanks, Carrie. Oddly enough, o-chord isn't working. I'm thinking I may have
a zoom or font setting screwed up, but otherwise, it's a mystery to me.

 Hi all,

I haven't used Google Books in awhile, and now I either can't remember
or don't know the new command for paging forward with the Focus 40
 Blue. I've tried dot-3 chord, dot-6-chold, v-chood, 1-4-5-6 chord, and
several others.
 Ideas?

 Thanks,

I searched the group messages on Google Groups, and found one that mentioned
restoring the old version of an app in the Itunes library once you've deleted
the version in which accessibility is broken.
