thanks for this! I will take a look. I wonder if things have changed since the date of this article? I do note that there is an accessability link to make more of the page available. If you have the KNFB Reaûer app, you can do a double-tap and hold on the immage and open it in that app to be recognized. I think Prizmo or Textgrabber can do this as well, but you might to double-check on that—I ûon't use Prizmo often, and I don't own Textgrabber. Accessibility/readability of google books
When I refer here, in the subject line, to accessibility or readability of Google books, I do not mean Google play books or any other related e-books. Google books seem to be set and I believe are either pictorial representations/graphical representations of the books and therefore are unreadable to screen readers such as voice-over. I have found a book I am desperately seeking but it is only available on Google books, andnot in any other format. Before I give up on it, I wanted to see if anybody has had any experiences of being able to read these books? Often, you canget a Previous page button and next page button but it does not seem to speak any of the actual text on the pages. This is my experience both with jawsand with VO on my iPhone. I just thought I'd check to see if anybody has had any different experiences. Thanks in advance. Re: Accessibility/readability of google books
The Google books on the web that are not specifically ebooks are scanned images. As far as I'm aware, the only thing you could try is scanning each page and performing OCR on it. This seems extremely labor-intensive. Have you looked for other sources? Unfortunately, it might almost be easier to get a hardcopy outhe book if there are no ebook versions available anywhere. Re: Accessibility/readability of google books
The first book I read on my IPhone was a Google book. I found the book, bought it, and then read it without any difficulty straight through. That was a couple of years ago, so I don't know if the app has changed, but my experience was quite good. As far as I understand it, Kirsten's reference was to the books that are searchable in google, which are not ebooks. Thank you Teresa, you have confirmed my suspicions. Penny, I think you might be referring to books which are now called Google play books. There is another possibility. If you purchase the current version of Google Play Books, then took it out of the ITunes library and off the device, it may be possible to put the older version back. Re: Google books
For a person who's never had Google Books, is it possible to get and use the accessible version? I love to read and I would like to try google books. Can Anyone Verify This Major Issue I'm Having With Google Books? Can't Turn Pages
Hi, all, I used to be able to use Braille commands to flip pages in Google Books. Somehow, after I got the latest version, I discovered that I can't use the Braille display to switch pages, nor can I use the page chooser. If I try using the page chooser, it jumps all over the book, even with gestures on the touchscreen. I've tried reinstalling the app. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it possible I have something set wrong? My sighted husband says everything looks normal, however. I'd really appreciate some assistance, as there were several books I hadn't finished reading before this problem happened, and I'd also like to know if it's an accessibility breakage. Teresa and Others, I'm sorry, I had forgotten that the Google Books app had been updated. I've tried flipping pages as well, and no luck. And of course, I didn't pay attention when everyone was talking about how to retrieve an older version of an app...apparently that's what we need to do, unless someone has other ideas for us.
