Re: Transferring BARD books to your phone [was Re: Interesting dellema with the bard ap.]

2013-10-16 Thread Marc Sutton
I have tried transferring a .brf file using Itunes. It did not show up in BARD.
Has anyone else had luck with this method? I ended up having success with using
Dropbox instead, but still wonder why the Itunes method seemed to fail.

You're right, you might have to restart BARD to have it show the books.
I haven't had any issues authorizing books to play.

Loading books into the BARDmobile app

The BARDmobile app is able to play any DAISY/NISO 2005 formatted
book. To load the books into the iOS device for playback use the
 following instructions.
 1. If not in a ZIP archive format. You should compress the directory
holding the books files into a ZIP file.
 2. Connect the iOS device to your computer with a USB cable.
 3. Open the iTunes application and select the iOS device button at
the right of the main window.
 4. select the Apps radio button on the main screen.
 5. At the bottom of the Apps screen is a section titled File
Sharing with a column list of apps. One of those will be the
 BARDmobile
 app select it.
 6. Press the Add. button located in the bottom right of the screen.
This will give you a dialog to select the ZIP file from step one. The
book will then be added to the app. You may need to restart BARDmobile

 NOTE:
At this time the BARDmobile app will only play DAISY/NISO 2005 books.

I haven't tried .BRF; I transferred an audio book. The instructions I read

Re: Transferring BARD books to your phone [was Re: Interesting dellema with the bard ap.]

2013-10-16 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi,

Zipping a book means you can copy all the files at once, which is harder to do
with iTunes file sharing. Also, if you leave a braille file zipped, BARD will
treat it as a single, multi-volume book rather than treating each braille file
as its own separate book.

Best,
Anna

Transferring BARD books to your phone [was Re: Interesting dellema with the bard ap.]

2013-10-13 Thread Christopher Chaltain
You can also use iTunes to transfer books to your phone. I haven't done
it myself yet, but a few different people have posted instructions to
the list. You may run into the same problem though, where you won't be
able to authorize those books if your phone can't get to the
authorization servers for the mobile app.

For example, Russ Kiehne posted these instructions to the list:

Doing some research, I found the following, hope it helps:
Loading books into the BARDmobile app

The BARDmobile app is able to play any DAISY/NISO 2005 formatted book.
To load the

books into the iOS device for playback use the following instructions.
1. If not in a ZIP archive format. You should compress the directory
holding the books

files into a ZIP file.
2. Connect the iOS device to your computer with a USB cable.
3. Open the iTunes application and select the iOS device button at the
right of the

main window.
4. select the Apps radio button on the main screen.
5. At the bottom of the Apps screen is a section titled File Sharing
with a column

list of apps. One of those will be the BARDmobile app select it.
6. Press the Add… button located in the bottom right of the screen.
This will give
you a dialog to select the ZIP file from step one. The book will then be
added to

the app. You may need to restart BARDmobile to see the new book.
NOTE:
At this time the BARDmobile app will only play DAISY/NISO 2005 books.
Other DAISY

formats such as DAISY 2.02 and ePub 3 will simply fail to load.

Hi all.
So, I added some books to my wishlist like I always do from the website on
my computer. Before when I'd do this I'd go to the ap on my phone, into

my

wishlist and download them. But, now, when I go into the ap, they're not
there. I know they've been added, but they're not there. I've closed the

reopened it... but still nothing. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

I have had good luck using iTunes to transfer books.
You're right, you might have to restart BARD to have it show the books.
I haven't had any issues authorizing books to play.

Files don't have to be zipped up to be transferred by iTunes or DropBox,
but from what I've read, books you want to read in BARD do need to be
zipped up before they're transferred.

Hi all.
So, I added some books to my wishlist like I always do from the
website on my computer. Before when I'd do this I'd go to the ap on
my phone, into my wishlist and download them. But, now, when I go
into the ap, they're not there. I know they've been added, but
they're not there. I've closed the ap using the ap switcher...
reopened it... but still nothing. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Interesting dellema with the bard ap.

2013-10-11 Thread Chris Chaffin

Do not know if this will make a difference, but once you are in your wish
list in the app, have you tried refreshing your wish list with the three
finger swipe down?
Other than that, deleting it from the app switcher, and restarting from
fresh is the only other thing I can think of.

Re: Interesting dellema with the bard ap.

2013-10-11 Thread Andy Baracco
It may be up, but there may not be staff there to do updates, maintenance,
etc. Several Federal web sites will come up when you try to access them, but
the links may not work, etc. This will become more noticable the longer the
shutdown persists.

Sounds to me to be that the web site is not really up. Isn't the site shut
down because of the government fiasco?

Hi all.
So, I added some books to my wishlist like I always do from the
website on my computer. Before when I'd do this I'd go to the ap on
my phone, into my wishlist and download them. But, now, when I go
into the ap, they're not there. I know they've been added, but
they're not there. I've closed the ap using the ap switcher...
reopened it... but still nothing. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

RE: Interesting dellema with the bard ap.

2013-10-11 Thread SSEric
Sean, it is interesting that, since I first saw these messages and
responded, I have been seeing the timed out message, too. But, I get it
when I start a book playing. Not every time, but many times when I pause and
then tap play I will get it.

I wonder if they might have cut server capacity to keep some running. Not
sure why I would have any server contact when I am in the middle of a
downloaded book, though.

The best!

E
