Subject: Possible Conflict Involving VoiceOver and Some GPS Apps

Greetings to the list.

I am evaluating some GPS apps for the iPhone, and I have noticed that
from time to time, disabling or enabling VoiceOver seems to shut down
the app's own voice-guided turn-by-turn instructions. I'm trying to
understand this problem. Perhaps I am performing an action to disable
VoiceOver; on the other hand, perhaps this problem is real. Can
anyone shed light on this concern?

Thank you for all help.

Hello, Pablo.

I have tried Google Maps and MapQuest so far. If I lose the ap's
internal voice guide, toggling VoiceOver from one state to the other
will restore it. As I said, I don't even know if the problem is real.
The phenomenon may be being triggered by an action I am performing
without my knowledge.

Re: Possible Conflict Involving VoiceOver and Some GPS Apps

2013-01-27 Thread David Chittenden
As far as I am aware, you should not be experiencing such. If You were muting
VO with a three finger double tap, it might make more sense. However, as you
are completely removing VO from the system, the apps' voice guidance features
should not be effected, unless voice guidance is using the Apple built-in
speech, and turning VO off is taking precedence over the apps' call to built-in
speech. Come to think of it, that may well be what is occurring. If you leave
VO off before you launch the app and voice guidance then works, this is likely
what is going on. You will need a sighted person to help test this theory.

If you leave VO off before you launch the app and voice guidance then works,

 Hello, Pablo.

I have tried Google Maps and MapQuest so far. If I lose the ap's
internal voice guide, toggling VoiceOver from one state to the other
will restore it. As I said, I don't even know if the problem is real.
The phenomenon may be being triggered by an action I am performing
 without my knowledge.

Re: Possible Conflict Involving VoiceOver and Some GPS Apps

2013-01-27 Thread Lea Langley
Hi all, I have some apps for Spanish that use audible recordings. If voiceover
is on, it lowers the volume of the Spanish app and I have to keep voiceover off
for it to work correctly. I don't know if this is what you're talking about but
I thought I would put it in for what it's worth. I know that this is the way
voiceover is supposed to work, so perhaps voiceover should be off before the
app is launched. God bless, Wren
