Yes, that is true although the same applies to the LoganTech braille labeler, 
you can get a QWERTY keyboard for it and then any sighted person can produce 
perfect braille labels.

You are right about rail been faster to read once it’s on the containers. The 
big advantage to the pen friend is that a sighted person can do the whole 
business. They can do it when they have time, not when you both have time, so 
you can make the braille labels that they can’t make.

big advantage to the pen friend is that a sighted person can do the whole 
business. They can do it when they have time, not when you both have time, so 
you can make the braille labels that they can’t make.

Google search field, if you open Google and are in the search field you can 
scan a barcode straight into the search field.

came with it no-longer works for you, you  might find it interesting to know 
that you can get into an edit field or a program like Notepad then scan your 
product and the number that the barcode translates into gets written into 
notepad or whatever field you’re in and at that point you can put it into 
Google and see what you get.  While this is not all that efficient because of 
the need to Google the bar code it’s fun to play around with if you ever want 
to use that incredible scanner or just want to geek out  on technology.
Personally I like the database Digit-Eyes uses but don’t know if it is 
available on line or if it gets updated any more.
Perhaps someone knows of a database of barcodes that would accept this number 
and give back better results than Google.

Since it is a dedicated bar code scanner, it has a specialized camera designed 
for just such a purpose so it is very fast and if a product is not in the 
database, you can record a label once you find out what it is.

I simply choose to not spend several hundred dollars even on a used one, when I 
can figure out the product in only a slightly longer time with other methods.

But I know a lot of people love their ID Mate and I think that is great.

Maybe suggest to Microsoft if they could set up Seeing AI to default to a 
Bluetooth barcode scanner if one is connected to the phone instead of the 
phone’s camera. You can buy a good Bluetooth barcode scanner on Amazon for $40 
or $50, I bought a couple we use at my retail store at the cash register and 
they work fine. Of course ideally you want an omni-directional scanner which 
will read the barcode no matter which way it is oriented and some of the less 
expensive scanners only do bi-directional which means they read if it’s left to 
right or right to left, but not up and down or skewed.

Maybe suggest to Microsoft if they could set up Seeing AI to default to a 
Bluetooth barcode scanner if one is connected to the phone instead of the 
phone’s camera. You can buy a good Bluetooth barcode scanner on Amazon for $40 
or $50, I bought a couple we use at my retail store at the cash register and 
they work fine. Of course ideally you want an omni-directional scanner which 
will read the barcode no matter which way it is oriented and some of the less 
expensive scanners only do bi-directional which means they read if it’s left to 
right or right to left, but not up and down or skewed.

We have the logantech labeler because our hands have gotten so arthritic that 
we can’t punch slate and stylus stuff any more. We do also have two hand-held 
barcode scanners from AT Guys one of them being the fusion—the small one 
mentioned down this thread. The pc program, barcode finder, still works on our 
windows 10 machines and we do use it sometimes.

You have to wait for very fast beeps or a solid tone, I can’t remember which 
just now. I don’t think phone apps do very well with bar codes. We have an id

I’m just glad we have choice. We like the dedicated id mate and it meets our 
needs efficiently. I think you can get a lifetime of updates for a price. I

The big advantage to the pen friend is that a sighted person can do the 
whole business. They can do it when they have time, not when you both have 
time, so you can make the braille labels that they can’t make.

Mary,

I have that scanner and it is great at acquiring barcodes. If the software that 
came with it no-longer works for you, you  might find it interesting to know 
that you can get into an edit field or a program like Notepad then scan your 
product and the number that the barcode translates into gets written into 
notepad or whatever field you’re in and at that point you can put it into 
Google and see what you get.  While this is not all that efficient because of 
the need to Google the bar code it’s fun to play around with if you ever want 
to use that incredible scanner or just want to geek out  on technology.

Personally I like the database Digit-Eyes uses but don’t know if it is 
available on line or if it gets updated any more.

Perhaps someone knows of a database of barcodes that would accept this number 
and give back better results than Google.

Sometimes barcodes recognize quickly. Other times, I can’t get them to do a 
darn thing. And sometimes, I will get the wrong identity, only to do it again 
and get the right one. It’s very hit and miss. I used to have a product that AT 
guys sold, it was a little scanner that sat on your desk and worked with a 
program that ran on my old windows XP machine. That is the best barcode scanner 
I’ve ever had.

Maybe suggest to Microsoft if they could set up Seeing AI to default to a 
Bluetooth barcode scanner if one is connected to the phone instead of the 
phone’s camera. You can buy a good Bluetooth barcode scanner on Amazon for $40 
or $50, I bought a couple we use at my retail store at the cash register and 
they work fine. Of course ideally you want an omni-directional scanner which 
will read the barcode no matter which way it is oriented and some of the less 
expensive scanners only do bi-directional which means they read if it’s left to 
right or right to left, but not up and down or skewed.

You are right about rail been faster to read once it’s on the containers. The 
big advantage to the pen friend is that a sighted person can do the whole 
business. They can do it when they have time, not when you both have time, so 
you can make the braille labels that they can’t make.

The one good thing the Pen Friend has going for itself is the small size of the 
labels. I rarely use mine and really should sell it, I find it way to 
inconvenient to get the Pen Friend and then to scan all my spice containers, if 
they have a braille label I can do it in half the time or less especially since 
I love spices and have about 40 spice containers. I actually just bit the 
bullet and ordered one of the 6-dot braille labelers from LoganTech since I 
don’t have a Perkins any more and really don’t use braille for anything except 
labels. The little plastic Dymo gadgets with the wheel you can turn are way to 
tedious and I can easily justify this investment as a business expense.

darn thing. And sometimes, I will get the wrong identity, only to do it again

We also have the pen friend as well. Matt has a label on the dishwasher to talk 
about all the buttons I think he has one on the back part of the stove and I 
think he might have one on the refrigerator so as you could see we are pretty 
adapted.  I think Matt does fantastic at everything he wants to do and goes to 
do he is a genius.

Ah, but if you know or even have a cursory knowledge of Braille, this where 
tags come in handy.

For non-perishables and or spices etc., I generally use dedicated containers 
that I slapped Braille on all sides so no matter which way I put it back in the 
pantry, I’m not twisting and turning every which way to figure out what it is 
or don’t’ have to play nose detective popping lids open to take a whiff or feel 
up or the dreaded taste test. 

For the freezer and stuff like chicken, pork, frozen veggies or fruit  or 
whatever, I use some tags I bought at the Braille Institute that are hard 
plastic that you snake an elastic cord through so you can wrap around the zip 
lock bag or Tupperware or whatever. They are permanent tags, but I think 50 
cost something like $10 or $15. And yes, the good old iPhone for barcode 
scanning.

I believe it. If my circumstances were different, I’d probably give one of 
these specialized scanners more serious consideration.

The newer ID Mates though… Man, that’s a hard ask with that price tag.

I’ve seen Summits going for as low as $150 so who knows, maybe I’ll just grab 
one for those few times My eyeballs aren’t home and my iPhone refuses to play.

You have to wait for very fast beeps or a solid tone, I can’t remember which 
just now. I don’t think phone apps do very well with bar codes. We have an id 
mate summit which is terrific.

not perfect but probably as good as TapTapSee or maybe a little better?

wooden staircase, blacks sofa, a Samsung television flatscreen, and an

all have been identified using CamFind.

Or, you could try periodically deleting  it from your phone, then reinstall 
it.  Whenever you delete an app, it says all data associated with it will be 
deleted, so hopefully, it would clean out those photos.

Playing with CamFind here! I have been saying, in previous posts, that
CamFind is only a product recognition app, however, I now find that it

actually really very good at recognising objects. Four example, a 
carpet

the floor came back as a red based floral print Floor carpet. A room

black and white tiles, when the floor was photographed, came back as
black-and-white checked htiles. A shot of my dog came back as
long-haired
white small dog (I should mention it is a huge goldendoodle) but you 
get

the
point. A large vase of assorted flowers was described as pink lilies.
Well,
not perfect but probably as good as TapTapSee or maybe a little better?
A
wooden staircase, blacks sofa, a Samsung television flatscreen, and an
aga,
all have been identified using CamFind.

I would expect the descriptions to be just about the same as TapTapSee as both 
apps are from the same company.

I haven't tried this but I wouldn't be surprised if a program like
IClean would remove them as unnecessary files.

Well, it looks as though it stays there, and I can't do anything about it. You 
may get further than I can, as I'm really not good at these things!

Hello Sandy, even I find Cam Find very good like TapTapSee, although Cam

wooden staircase, blacks sofa, a Samsung television flatscreen, and an aga,
all have been identified using CamFind.
