On my Dad’s (formerly mine) 5S, last night, the battery during the night,
dropped from 49 to 16%. I too turned off Screen Tie hoping it’ll better the
battery behavior. The 5S will be two years old this NOvember, thus I’d imagine
the battery is still alright?

Re: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8

2018-09-23 Thread Gordon
When did you update to IOS 12? One thing I can tell you is that when you
first get it you will see battery drain for a few days as the operating
system acclimates itself to you and your phone. From what I've read
there are several things going on in the background as the new software
settles in. Indexing files and things like that. You'll find a few new
cool features under battery that will show you a good deal of
information about what apps are using battery and what hours your phone
consumed the most battery. If you have it set to show you the past 24
hours, you'll see hour by hour usage.

RE: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8

region tracking appear in the status bar?, in other words, should I keep it on?

Weitzel
Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2018 08:33 AM
To: viphone@googlegroups.com
Subject: RE: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8

As far as region tracking I would try to go through all the apps in location
services including the system settings area at the very bottom to find out
which app is using it, could very well be that previously turned off apps got
turned on during the update.

Do you have any sort of home automation devices such as a connected thermostat,
Ring video doorbell, smart lock, lights etc? Often they use geofencing to track
whether you are home or not.

Another area as I said is the system area where you have things like time zone,
location based reminders etc.

Lastly, when did you update? Did you close all apps before updating and do a
reboot of the phone?

These are not things Apple may officially recommend, but I find it’s good
practice and it can avoid issues, even better is to do a Reset Network Settings
after you close all apps in the app switcher and before you do a major update.

Another consideration is this: somebody had posted an article where the author
said that often after an update the iPhone may drain more rapidly for a few
days because iOS is doing a lot of reindexing of files and so on.

If you updated recently have you done an additional reboot after your phone
came back up after the update, i.e. turn it off completely for a minute or so,
then turn it back on?

If you have or if that doesn’t help I suggest you try to go to Settings >
General > Reset and do a Reset Network Settings now, it can still do a lot of
good.

Make sure you quit all apps in the app switcher first and remember that you
need your WiFi password since you have to reconnect to your WiFi after a Reset
Network Settings. Also, if you had called your iPhone something like “John’s
iPhone” you have to go to Settings> General > About and edit the name to what
you want, during a reset network settings it is reset to simply “iPhone”.

Finally, if all that doesn’t help and you already upgraded last Monday and the
battery still drains very fast then you may have to do what Mario had to do
with his iPhone SE which is to do a complete restore to factory settings and
set up the phone from scratch. At times things can get messed up during an
upgrade.

Subject: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8

Good morning: I am using the Iphone 8 with IOS 12. My battery power is dropping
and I realized that Region tracking appeared in the status bar. Under settings,
(privacy) I turned location services off. Region tracking no longer appears in
the status bar. However, my battery is still dropping. (1) should region
tracking appear in the status bar? (2) are there other features that should be
disabled in IOS 8 to avoid the droppage in battery power?

Thank you.

RE: Battery power dropping in iIphone 8

2018-09-23 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Hi John,

I remember someone saying a few days ago that for the first few days on iOS 12
the battery will go down faster, but after that, things will get better.
Evidently, the phone is doing software stuff like indexing. Unfortunately with
a quick search, I can’t find the post where I saw that.

Good Luck!

RE: Battery Power: -- how to remove recents from app switcher

2014-10-08 Thread David Cleveland
The exact steps to remove the recents from your app switcher.

1. Open up Settings
2. Double tap on Mail, Contacts, and Calender
3. Swipe right until you get to the Contacts section or use the navigate by
headings to get there
4. You will hear an option "Show in app switcher"; double tap on it.
5. You will have an option to turn off Phone Favorites and Recents

I am turning both off to see if I can detect any battery life improvement.

Thanks to Arun Gaala who called Apple Accessibility to get these steps.

Re: Battery Power:

2014-10-08 Thread Annie Skov Nielsen
Hi Michael.

Well I have had battery problems with my 5s. I did the following, and it seems
to solve the problem. i ran my phone totally down for battery took the sim card
out of the phone connected the charger for 20 minutes and inserted the simcard
again. After that things seems to work again, I got the explanation that it had
something to do with reset the networks settings. I do not know if it is the
case, and I am not advicing anyone to take the sim card out especially if you
have not tried it before, but it worked in my case - strange.

Best regards Annie.

Hi Simon,

Just one quick word of advice since you are new on the list.

I highly recommend that you write properly, e.g. do a spell check before you
send your message, use punctuation and capitalization and don't use SMS
abbreviations. Use paragraphs.

Most of us on here use a screenreader and the message you wrote below is
horrible to listen to. Quite a few on here who contribute regularly
including myself will not read or answer messages after a couple of examples

You won't hurt your iPhone battery. Lithium Ion batteries like to be
used and like to be charged. Keep them away from heat and charge your
phone whenever it's convenient.

Rose,
You don't need to type in any path names to find the folder.
Press windows key to open Start menu.
Right arrow once to Shut Down and then down arrow to Music.
Press i to get to the iTunes folder
The folder is in there and is called "Automatically add to iTunes"
If you bring up the context menu with Applications key or Shift F10 while
you are on this folder you can choose Send to desktop.
That puts a shortcut to the "Automatically add to iTunes" folder on your
desktop where it is easy to find.

I e-mail to the PC, then open and they move themselves to iTunes, I don't
have to do directory searches, something that was easy in Windows XP but
seems to be more difficult in 7, that is the directory structure seems a lot
different to me and I have more problems going where I want, in fact I have
never seen the folder you all talk about for adding stuff to iTunes.
Admittedly I have not looked particularly hard and I truly hate long path

You can download the NLS digital books to an iOS device, but you cannot play

Don't feel alone – I couldn't get the ring tones to sync either and I tried!
And tried! And try! I spent tons of time trying to make it work and just can't
get it done.

If anyone has any more tips, please let me know. I've done everything I can
think of to get the computer and iPhone to sync but my efforts have failed.

Rose,
You don't need to type in any path names to find the folder.

RE: Battery power

2013-03-24 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Simon,

That is a question nobody can really answer precisely because it depends on
so many factors. For example: is your WiFi turned on all the time, is your
Bluetooth turned on, do you have email accounts configured, if so, how many
and are they using Push to retrieve messages, do you use location based
reminders or other apps that use location services, how many apps do you
have that send you push notifications, are you on a 3G or LTE network.

I think for the most part you are doing OK if you get through the day, e.g.
you unplug your iPhone at 7 or so in the morning and your battery lasts
with normal usage, maybe doing some phone calls, doing some email and so on
and you get home after work and are down to 20% or so.There are many battery
saving tips, they are easy to find if you google "battery saving tips for
the iPhone" or something like that. You have to decide for yourself what is
acceptable to you since some people may suggest to only fetch email once an
hour or manually, to always turn WiFi and Bluetooth off, to disable all push
notifications and to turn off location services for all apps etc. To me
putting such severe restrictions on my phone is not acceptable, I own an
iPhone so I can take adavantage of all the iPhone can do and if I turn off
half the features then maybe that is OK for some, but it's not OK for me and
I rather charge my phone every night than to turn off everything so that
maybe I get 2 days out of it.

Regards,
Sieghard
