I would assume that the signals being sent from the keyboard to the computer
are all generated the same way and follow the same standard protocol.
Basically, the only difference would be the key caps. Therefore, they're
pretty much interchangeable. Here's just one of many articles on using a
Windows keyboard on a Mac and the other way around
https://www.computer-hardware-explained.com/apple-keyboard.html

  Hi,

The original question came from someone who has a Windows Bluetooth
keyboard and was trying to figure out what keys she would use if connected
to an iPhone.

I have the AmazonBasics keyboard and had recommended it because of having
both options and control on both sides of the spacebar.

But, it hasn’t been available for at least 6 months, so I switched to the
Logitech K480 since it can connect to three Bluetooth devices including
Windows or Android along with Apple.

I will leave it to that person to finally sort out what keys on a Windows
keyboard match up to the Apple keyboard commands.

On my Logitech K780 the keys on the left are as follows (Windows function
followed by iOS function:

Control = Control
Function Key = Function Key
Windows Key = Option
Alt Key = Command

This keyboard only has an Alt key and a Control key on the right side of the
spacebar and again Alt = Command, but now the right Control key is Options
which on the left is the Windows key.

All you have to do to check this out is press Control+Command (Control+Windows
Key on a PC keyboard) together with “k” to get into keyboard Help and then
whenever you press a key Voiceover tells you what that key is or does.

Nothing to be ashamed of. We all have to learn somehow.
To show my ignorance as well, I am not completely sure I have the right
information on which Windows keys are what when used with an Apple device.
My best guess is that the control key is the same.
The options key would be the Windows Key.
And The application key would be the command key.

If the Windows keyboard has a function key, it would be the same.

I’m sure there is a list out there with a list of which Windows keys equal

Hi Lois,

Nothing to be ashamed of. We all have to learn somehow.

To show my ignorance as well, I am not completely sure I have the right
information on which Windows keys are what when used with an Apple device.

My best guess is that the control key is the same.

The options key would be the Windows Key.

And The application key would be the command key.

If the Windows keyboard has a function key, it would be the same.

I’m sure there is a list out there with a list of which Windows keys equal
which Apple keys.

I know there are others on the list that can answer once they see these
messages.

HTH,

Richard

I thought the keys were Control, Function or vice versa, windows, and alt,

OK,
I of course new that control+options was the VO key.
But to make sure we are all on the same page:
Windows key equals command key
Application key equals Options
And Control equals control.
Is that correct?

Hi Richard,

The keys for VO are, the control and option keys (held down together) on an
Apple keyboard, and
the control and alt keys (held down together) on a Windows style keyboard.

The command key on an Apple keyboard corresponds to the Windows key on a
Windows style keyboard.
