Thanks for the replies to my question. I just need to find out if the plan
I'm on supports without charging extra.

You can go into Settings -> Cellular and turn off cellular data. You can
also turn on airplane mode and then turn on wifi.

My Apple devices don't support wifi calling. I'm worried that I've been
talking about wifi calling on this list when I thought I was talking about
it on an Android list. If so, I apologize if I said anything incorrectly,
and I hope and I'm sure someone will correct anything I said.

RE: Does WIFI Calling Save Battery Life?

2016-08-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Duo is meant to be a video calling app. Maybe they'll allow for voice calls
only at some point, maybe they won't. There are of course plenty of options for
Voip voice calls, the most obvious and extremely accessible one would be Skype,
then there is Facetime Audio if you have people who also have iPhones, Facebook
allows for voice and video calls and Whats App allows for voice calls. Of all
the ones I mentioned Skype is the only one where you can also make calls to
regular phone numbers without the person having a Skype account, but that of
course requires a subscription or credit.

Sieghard

You could use a VOIP app, like Skype, Duo or other apps.

If your phone and your carrier supports wifi calling then you can make and
receive texts and calls over wifi when you don't have cellular service. When
I've used it it's just been automatic and transparent. I'm not sure if you can
force a call to go over wifi calling even if you have a good cell connection.

WiFi calling must be supported by your carrier and you don't turn off your
phone's normal radio.

Re: Does WIFI Calling Save Battery Life?

2016-08-28 Thread Christopher Chaltain
If you would normally have both your cellular and wifi radios on, and
you're turning off your cellular radio and using wifi calling then yes,
you would save battery life.

If you'll still have both radios on and your just using wifi calling
instead of your cellular connection then I don't think you'd save much
battery life, but I'm not sure.
