Re: DropBox files not showing completely on iDevice
Hi, It sounds like Dropbox stopped uploading files for some reason. Stop it on your computer and restart it. Then it should finish uploading the files. Best, Anna On Oct 16, 2012, at 8:39 PM, Kramlinger, Keith G., M.D. kramlinger.ke...@mayo.edu wrote: Hi, I uploaded 9 files of about 15MB each to DropBox from my PC. All are there, as shown in DropBox when viewed from my PC. But, when I go to DropBox on my iPodTouch, only 2 of the 9 files show up, file 1 and file 8. This persists 24 hours after upload to DropBox, and following a Power Off/On of the iPodTouch with a fully-charged battery (not that I expected those factors to play a role; I just thought I’d mention it).. I only have about 300MB total in my DropBox folders. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Keith -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: Dropbox files
Hi, If this was a computer we were talking about, either Mac or PC, yes would be the answer. In the case of the iOS App for Drop Box it is a live representation of the online content, no internet access equals no accessing files. There is a solution though, you can within the iOS Drop Box App mark files for syncing to your device, I believe the term they use is favourite or something like that. This means the file will be stored locally. I guess they do this as some folk have a lot of data in their DB, I have, for example, more than 700Gb at this time in my Drop Box. Far, far to much for my 64Gb iPHone. Re: Dropbox files
Neil is absolutely correct, Dropbox is a syncing tool and usually files reside on all of your machines unless you explicitly specify otherwise. But on an iDevice it's the other way around. You have to explicitly specify that you want an individual file to be available offline. You do that by opening the file in question and pressing the 'Add to Favorites' button. There's no download progress' available, but it should happen pretty quickly. The 'Remove from Favorites' button deletes the local copy of the file from your device again. To browse files offline, you can either select the Favorites tab in the Dropbox app along the bottom of the screen towards the middle, or you can browse the tree of viles as you normally would. If you try to open any files whose content is not stored on your device, you'll simply be told that the file is not available. Re: Dropbox files
Hi Keith, If you're using a text editing app with Dropbox support to make your changes, then your results will automatically be saved locally and updated with sync when you connect again. There are many such apps, but one of the distinctions is whether you can edit any folder/file under Dropbox or only files in the folder named for the app. Some editors like Notesy and Nebulous Notes will let you edit any file in your Dropbox. If I save a file as a favorit and then modify it when offline, do I have to do anything when next online to make sure the modified file is synched per usual in Dropbox? Thanks very much.
