RE: How do You Use Apple Pay?

2019-08-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The problem is not with places accepting or adopting Apple Pay in the US but
with credit card companies moving to chip cards which then in turn allow for
contactless terminals. I am always surprised when I get American tourists
through my retail store and they don't have a PIN and have to sign for their
purchase. Here in Canada I think I haven't signed a credit card receipt in at
least 8 years and whether I use my iPhone or I have my credit card in my
pocket, as long as the purchase is under $100 I can simply tap the card to the
terminal and that's it. Otherwise I have to insert it and enter my 4-digit PIN.
There are a very few places which don't have contactless terminals, but I'd say
even small shops and kiosks have them 19 out of 20 or better and as long as
there is a contactless terminal there is also Apple Pay.
On the other hand we don't yet have person to person Apple Pay, but then again
it is not such a big deal because just about every financial institution in
Canada now supports so-called Interac email money transfers which allow me to
send money to anybody who has an email address and does online banking and as
long as it is at least $10. They get an email anywhere from a couple of minutes
to 25 or 30 minutes at most and can then deposit the money into their account
or they can set up automatic deposits which means any transfers to a particular
email address are automatically deposited into whichever account they choose,
if they have more than one they can just set up a second email address and
associate it with a different account. You can even set up recurring payments,
for example, if you want to pay your rent this way each month or the dog
walker, baby sitter etc.

Sieghard

Oh my! I'm actually in Norway.
South western Norway to be more precise which is about a 90 minute flight away
from London, UK though LOL.
Yes, Norway is a country, a part of the scandinavian countries in northern
europe.

I'm not a native speaker.
However, comparing my English to UK English I definitely take as a compliment

Thanks,

PS: Over here in Norway we're also quite good at adopting new technology.
I definitely no longer need to use cash because credit and debit cards is
accepted everywhere and Apple Pay is also widely used here.
I can't actually remember the last time I had to deal with cash to pay for
something.

I would agree that Apple Pay would be brilliant if more locations accepted it.
I suspect by your language that you are somewhere in the UK which seems light
years ahead of the USA in number of locations accepting Apple Pay and in the
processing of credit cards in general. I'm always disheartened by the dearth of
locations which Apple Pay accepts when I run the Pay Finders app from a USA
location.
