RE: Questions about Uber

2017-03-20 Thread R Van Lant
Around here in Boulder, Colorado area, people typically love dogs, so I have
had no issues with Uber or Lyft. My new guide dog is small so she fits on the
floor, but my last dog was large. I took a lightweight sheet that I could
cover the seat next to me with, which drivers seemed to appreciate. I have not
travelled in rain or snow yet, when the dog would presumably be wet.

When I travelled to Los Angeles and needed rides to and from the airport there,
I called the driver once he was assigned to me and let him know, largely
because the driver's names looked Middle Eastern and I was honestly more
concerned about a Muslim driver claiming he couldn't take us. The driver had
no issue, so we were on our way.

Hey guys,

I am about to start using Uber. Question, how have you found a lot of the
drivers with guide dogs? I figured most of them are probably pretty good but
wanted to ask. How do you guys usually handle it?

Cheers,
Jed

RE: Questions about Uber

Hello,
I have had the same issue with the submit button. My workaround is using a
Bluetooth keyboard to navigate out of the edit box. This works well.
Hope this helps.

First of all, I don't know about other cities, but in Atlanta, there is an
option in the menu for gift cards. It allows you to send other Uber riders gift
cards, but I guess you could also send yourself one as well. It's in the menu
where you would find information about your trips, as well as your payment
options etc. I have also seen them in places like CVS pharmacy, and Kroger, if
you have those near you. My only issue with Uber at this time is, when I have
to write to them regarding an issue that I've had with one of my trips, I have
to get someone cited to assist me with that because the submit button is no
longer available and the app. It hasn't really been readily available since the
last major update was done to their app in November. Actually, before I start
writing my complaint, the submit button is there. However, once my complaint is
ready to be submitted, I have to turn off voiceover, and have someone select
the submit button for me. It is not there when voiceover is turned on. I
suppose you can actually go to the Uber website, and submit your complaint that
way. But submitting it through the app is so much easier, so I plan to write to
them regarding this issue.

heads up, then insisted I bring loads of blankets to cover her intire car even
though the dog was on the floor.
UBER will just talk to the drivers, but I have found out earlier this week that
UBER technically can't do anything to the drivers though UBER will say they can
disallow them from using the platform.
UBER has contacted me when I report it within 24-48 hours, but again, all they
will tell you is that they will talk to the driver.
If the driver charges you a cancelation fee, you will get a credit for that fee
towards your next ride.

wanted to ask. How do you guys usually handle it?

It must definitely depend on the market, when I was in Calgary I never saw
anything about an Uber Assist option either.

Folks, the Uber team were clear about how they monitor communication between
drivers and clients because it is within the Uber App.
If you are refused with a service animal it will only be after you have
confirmation of the ride along with the driver's name, car type and license
plate number.
Uber operates under the same laws as any other drivers for hire including
taxis, therefore, face the same consequences if refusing those of us with
service dogs.
Selecting Uber Assist will increase the likelihood of getting a more
experienced driver that may be more familiar with disabled clients.
Uber Assist is the same pricing as Uber X and the wait time is usually inside
10 minutes.

It is the expectation and goal of Uber to make their service available to all
clients, understanding that 100% compliance is what they are striving
for.
Just like any other service that we use when accompanied by our guide Dogs, it
may well be an opportunity for us to educate.

RE: Questions about Uber

2017-03-17 Thread Reg Sullivan
Folks, the Uber team were clear about how they monitor communication between
drivers and clients because it is within the Uber App.
If you are refused with a service animal it will only be after you have
confirmation of the ride along with the driver's name, car type and license
plate number.
Uber operates under the same laws as any other drivers for hire including
taxis,
therefore, face the same consequences if refusing those of us with service
dogs.
Selecting Uber Assist will increase the likelihood of getting a more
experienced driver that may be more familiar with disabled clients.
Uber Assist is the same pricing as Uber X and the wait time is usually inside
10 minutes.

It is the expectation and goal of Uber to make their service available to all
clients, understanding that 100% compliance is what they are striving for.

RE: Questions about Uber

2017-03-17 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have used Uber a few times in Calgary and a few drivers didn't seem thrilled,
but I think they were a bit afraid of my dog. I reassured them that he was very
friendly and it was OK, but I usually call the driver (easy to do from the app
after you confirm your ride) and tell them that I am blind and have a guide
dog. For one thing when I'm at a mall or other large building it is better to
call anyways to make sure they come to the right door, yes, the GPS will give
the address/location, but if I'm at a big mall it won't do the driver much good
to know that I'm at such and such mall. You may not be legally obligated to let
them know you have a dog, but I think there is nothing wrong with telling them
out of curtocy and I guess there is always a chance a driver is truely allergic
in which case it's better if they know in advance and can decline the ride.
On another note I think I am going to not use Uber again for now anyways
because while I had good experiences with the individual drivers, I do not at
all agree with their business practices and right now it looks like they may
face a real existential thread so until they decide to get their act together
I'll go back to taking a taxi. I know it is easier to boycott them if you
rarely need to use them anyways and for others this may not be an option, but I
only get to use Uber when I'm in Calgary and there is talk that they will be in
Vancouver by the end of this year, but in my small town our single cab company
where the owner drives along with 3 or 4 others she employs they can hardly
make a living and I'm sure Uber is a long time away from being here.

Sieghard

RE: Questions about Uber

2017-03-17 Thread Terrianne Straw
Hi Jed,
The first time I tried to use Uber with a friend, the driver wanted to put my
guide dog in her trunk. There was a language barrier so I took other
transportation that day. Now I carry a piece of heavy vinyl or oil cloth that
is a little over 2 by 3 feet. When the driver pulls up I open the door and say
my dog never rides on the seat as I lay out my cover partly on and down the
front of my seat and on the floor before I get in. They are very appreciative.
 Good luck.

Terri

RE: Questions about Uber

2017-03-17 Thread Liz and LD Hope
I started using Uber a month ago. I have a guide dog, and I did not tell
Uber prior to transport that I have a guide dog because there was no place
for such notes in account set up, and legally, I don't have to tell Uber
that I have a guide dog. I have had nothing but excellent service with
Uber, and the drivers were very accepting of my guide dog.

Re: Questions about Uber

2017-03-17 Thread Jed Barton

Hey guys,

I am about to start using Uber. Question, how have you found a lot of
the drivers with guide dogs? I figured most of them are probably pretty
good but wanted to ask. How do you guys usually handle it?

Cheers,
Jed

hello group,

So, I installed the Uber application onto my iPhone 6 I am using voice

you can add gift cards as a form of payment for rides is that correct?
If possible I would rather like to use that instead of a credit and or
debit card.

Has anyone encountered issues with the Uber application using
voiceover and if so what are they? I have not used Uber as of yet as I
have been using para transit to get around but may consider it that's
why am asking.

Thank you for your help
