RE: Saving and archiving text messages

2015-11-07 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Walter,

Ah! Your question really takes me back to the old Windows Mobile 5.x days.

The simple answer to your question is that you cannot unthread text messages in
the native iOS app. Furthermore, you cannot move individual messages into what
we old-timers would think of as a native iOS text message folder.

I know, I know. You would think that an operating system, sophisticated
enough to give us on-the-fly turn-by-turn directions from almost anywhere on
the planet, would allow for such basic functionality but, as yet, it does not;
at least, not natively.

Subject: Saving and archiving text messages

Hi All. I have a few text messages I would like to archive and save. As it
stands each time I get a text message from a particular company it is added to
a conversation, or should I say other text messages from that same source. For
example; I'm with Vodafone and have a number of text messages from them but
each time a new message from them comes in, it is added to a long list of other
text messages I got from them, I open the message and the oldest is at the top
and I have to go all the way down to find the latest. How can I change that
that each message is shown in it's own right. Once I've accomplished that then
I would like to archive and save some important messages. Some messages are
just promotional messages that I would delete but if I delete one, it would
seem I delete the lot. So 1. Howe do I stop messages being grouped in this
fashion and are displayed in their own right. 2. how do I archive a
particular message and save it, and to where can I save it? With my old Nokia
there was an option to send the message to a particular folder that I was able
to create but I don't know if that is possible with the iPhone, the iPhone 6 is
what I have. I would like to archive and save in a safe location some
important text messages but I need your help to know how to do this. With
thanks. Walter.

Hi. Yes, one would have thought that the ability to move and safely store
important messages would have been a basic feature. After all, folk are using
their phones for all sorts of things such as on line shopping and of course one
gets confirmation messages such as I do with my mobile provider and these
messages are important legally so it would stand to reason that they should be
kept in a safe part of the phone for future use and retrieval. I'm new to

RE: Saving and archiving text messages

2015-11-07 Thread Walter Ramage
Hi. Thank you. I think somebody mentioned that procedure yesterday, can't
remember who nor what list as there has been a lot of help provided. I did a
little practice last evening; I had a friend text me a couple of times and I
replied twice so there was 4 messages in the group, 2 from her and 2 I sent in
reply. I tried that method you have described and it worked but not with the
particular message I wanted to delete. So, this will work but one has to be
so careful that the wrong message isn't deleted. The unfortunate thing is when
you are asked to confirm the message, you can't see the message it refers to so
you've gotta be very sure in advance you have the right one and I guess that
will come with practice and a lot of patients. I won't attempt the groups with
the important messages in them until I get the mastery of it though. Thanks
for your help and all others who pitched in to help, it is appreciated.
Walter.

Hi Walter again,

I've had some time to experiment with messages thread on my iphone and I have
at least found a quick way of pairing down a message thread to the ones you
wish to keep. Open a message thread, and flick to the message in the thread
which you may not wish to keep. Then set the rotor to action (which is usually
already there by default but it doesn't hurt to check), and then swipe up or
down until you hear "more". Double-tap and a dialog will appear with an option
to delete just this one text message in the thread. At least you will be able
to reduce the number of messages in the thread to the essential ones.

Hope this will help.

Re: Saving and archiving text messages

2015-11-07 Thread Christopher Chaltain
A little clarification, when you double tap on the More option, you'll
be dropped back into your list of messages with the current message
selected for deletion. If you now double tap the delete button at the
bottom of the screen then the message will be deleted. If you want to
delete additional messages then just double tap them. When you hit the
delete button at the bottom of the screen all of the messages you double
tapped will be deleted. The only trick here is that you don't know which
messages are marked for deletion, but if you remember the one you
started with is already marked and you just double tap the other
messages you want to delete then you'll be good. I do this all of the
time, and although it did take some practice and getting used to, it
does work.

Hi. Thank you. I think somebody mentioned that procedure yesterday, can't

little practice last evening; I had a friend text me a couple of times and I
replied twice so there was 4 messages in the group, 2 from her and 2 I sent in

I've had some time to experiment with messages thread on my iphone and I have at least
found a quick way of pairing down a message thread to the ones you wish to keep. Open a
message thread, and flick to the message in the thread which you may not wish to keep.
Then set the rotor to action (which is usually already there by default but it doesn't
hurt to check), and then swipe up or down until you hear "more". Double-tap
and a dialog will appear with an option to delete just this one text message in the
thread. At least you will be able to reduce the number of messages in the thread to the
essential ones.

Hope this will help.

You would think that an operating system, sophisticated
enough to give us on-the-fly turn-by-turn directions from almost anywhere on
the planet, would allow for such basic functionality but, as yet, it does not;
at least, not natively.

Probably not a point worth mentioning, but I think this is a feature for
the messaging app and not the operating system. I know Apple bundles
them together and doesn't update the messaging app separately from the
operating system, but I'd be surprised if they weren't different teams
inside Apple.

deleting individual messages in a conversation, and it would appear that it
