I think the call with Side button isn’t a bad idea since it allows easy
triggering of a 9 1 1 call and if auto dial is off you still have to confirm.

Hello.

Good tip about turning off auto dial in Emergency SOS. I just did that on my 8
Plus. Another setting I found was Call with Side Button. It’s off now.
Should it be on?

I called 911 when I was setting up my iPhone 8. I put it in the case while the
phone was on and it pressed the power and volume buttons at the same time in
the process of doing that. You need to go into settings and emergency SOS. Turn
off the auto dial feature so that you have to confirm if you want to call 911.
Otherwise it will auto dial in five seconds if you ever press those two buttons
again.

Hi Mary and all,
Finally I got my phone working.
I went to the apple store and they gave me a new phone. They tried to restore
my iPhone several times and it remained stuck in the same place I saw in my
home when I tried to set it up.
The technician did not want to waste too much time. She gave me a new phone.
The new one works seamlessly. The only mistake I made is to dial 911 by

Cris, I don't know if this will help, but this is what we did with our ipad

about a year ago I tripple tapped the home button on the ipad and it began

What do you suggest I do?

When I do the command for recovery mode, I get a message on iTunes telling me

That would be one feature I don’t think I would ever use and one I had never
even thought about.

If I have to push and hold the home button and then say “SIRI, answer the call”
or evenjust “Answer” I might as well just double tap with 2 finger to answer
and if I wear a headset I already have a button I can press to answer.

I guess the only exception to this would be if it worked just on device without
interaction similar to how it is with a number of Plantronics headsets where
when the phone rings you can simply say “Answer”. This would mean as soon as
the phone rings SIRI would need to be listening for the word “Answer” or
“Ignore”.

If I am doing something like cooking where I may have dirty hands I can always
turn on auto answer. Yesterday we had a nice sunny day and I wanted to get my
Christmas lights up on a 25 foot tall spruce tree in my front yard before it
was full of snow which at this time of the year can happen any time. I left my
staff at my store since it wasn’t so busy and went home, but while I was up on
the ladder I knew I might not be able to or want to answer a call so I put in
my headset and set the phone to auto answer after 5 seconds.

This is a feature on Samsung phones, and I actually do find it quite
useful. I can have my S7 sitting on it's wireless charging stand, and
when the phone rings, I can just say answer, and I'm now on speaker
phone. I'm not saying Samsung is better then the iPhone, I'm just
providing my experience with a feature that I think would also be useful
on the iPhone.

If I have to push and hold the home button and then say “SIRI, answer
the call” or evenjust “Answer” I might as well just double tap with 2
finger to answer and if I wear a headset I already have a button I can
press to answer.

I guess the only exception to this would be if it worked just on
device without interaction similar to how it is with a number of
Plantronics headsets where when the phone rings you can simply say
“Answer”. This would mean as soon as the phone rings SIRI would need
to be listening for the word “Answer” or “Ignore”.

If I am doing something like cooking where I may have dirty hands I
can always turn on auto answer. Yesterday we had a nice sunny day and
I wanted to get my Christmas lights up on a 25 foot tall spruce tree
in my front yard before it was full of snow which at this time of the
year can happen any time. I left my staff at my store since it wasn’t
so busy and went home, but while I was up on the ladder I knew I might
not be able to or want to answer a call so I put in my headset and set
the phone to auto answer after 5 seconds.

I called 911 when I was setting up my iPhone 8. I put it in the case
while the phone was on and it pressed the power and volume buttons at
the same time in the process of doing that. You need to go into settings
and emergency SOS. Turn off the auto dial feature so that you have to
confirm if you want to call 911. Otherwise it will auto dial in five
seconds if you ever press those two buttons again.

2018-10-28 Thread Cris Ali
Right Maria, RI think that is what I did when it dialed 911. I thought
pressing one of the volume buttons with the side button would bring up the turn
off screen, but instead it dialed 911. How does one turn the phone off then?
Pressing the side button alone brings SIRI.

Hi folks,

I bought a new iPhone XR and I can’t set it up.

First I tried the quick start as suggested by apple by putting it next to
my old phone, , and it did not work.

I then tried to set it up using the iTunes to no avail.

Now I am stuck. I can’t even get it to go into recovery mode to wipe it
clean.

What do you suggest I do?

When I do the command for recovery mode, I get a message on iTunes telling
me that iTunes cannot connect to the iPhone until I enter a passcode. Try
again or cancel.

I never had a problem like this with apple products. Could it be that my
phone is defective or is there something wrong with the new iPhone
compatibility with the iTunes?

Any ideas will be appreciated.

Regards,

Cris

RE: Unable to do anything with my iPhone. I am not sure what the problem is!

2018-10-28 Thread Cris Ali
Hi Mary and all,
Finally I got my phone working.
I went to the apple store and they gave me a new phone. They tried to restore
my iPhone several times and it remained stuck in the same place I saw in my
home when I tried to set it up.
The technician did not want to waste too much time. She gave me a new phone.
The new one works seamlessly. The only mistake I made is to dial 911 by
mistake. I still do not know what I did exactly to make such a mistake, but I
hope I won’t do it again.

As far as the transfer of my apps and keyboards, everything went well.

Cheers,

Cris

Wow, Chris! What a hassle! I certainly hope they get this sorted for you.

PS do you use the Arabic keyboard on your phone? If you do, I will be very
curious how that transfer works for you, since my second language keyboard is
no where and evidence, although it is said to be so into settings. That switch
were you switch from one keyboard to another while in it and it is simply not
there.

Hi folks,
I bought a new iPhone XR and I can’t set it up.
First I tried the quick start as suggested by apple by putting it next to my
old phone, , and it did not work.
I then tried to set it up using the iTunes to no avail.

What do you suggest I do?

I never had a problem like this with apple products. Could it be that my phone

Any ideas will be appreciated.

in starting up Voice Over, That was easy. The problem is that voice over dies
in the middle of the set up process and the iPhone freezes.
Last night I called the Apple disability support. The technician and I spent
over an hour trying to find a fix to no avail.
I gave her access to my laptop and also gave her access to my phone camera and
we tried very hard to get the setup of the new iPhone going, but we failed.
Tomorrow I have an appointment with the apple store in my area. Hopefully they
will be able to figure out the problem, or give me a new iPhone. We shall see!

Cheers,

Cris

Cris, I don't know if this will help, but this is what we did with our ipad
when we didn't have anyone hear to get the ipad going. When we got our ipad
about a year ago I tripple tapped the home button on the ipad and it began
talking. I don't know if this will work with the phone, and if nothing else as
worked yet, maybe you could give it a try. Another thought, you might want to
install itunes on your computer, if you don't already have it installed, hook
your phone up to your computer and see what you could do to get your phone
going. You probably have a solution by now with listers that have responded to
you, but I hope you could find a solution soon, and let us know how you like
your new phone.

Hi folks,
I bought a new iPhone XR and I can’t set it up.
First I tried the quick start as suggested by apple by putting it next to my
old phone, , and it did not work.
I then tried to set it up using the iTunes to no avail.
Now I am stuck. I can’t even get it to go into recovery mode to wipe it clean.
What do you suggest I do?
When I do the command for recovery mode, I get a message on iTunes telling me
that iTunes cannot connect to the iPhone until I enter a passcode. Try again
or cancel.
I never had a problem like this with apple products. Could it be that my phone
is defective or is there something wrong with the new iPhone compatibility with
the iTunes?
Any ideas will be appreciated.

Regards,

Cris

2018-10-27 Thread Carolyn Arnold
Oh my, yes, if one can get a phone to a store, those guys live to make phones
do whatever we want them to do. They usually can do it in a flash.

That is what I told my cousin last year, when she finally broke down and took
her phone to the AT&T store, and she said, like magic, the guy got her phone
tip top.

Best regards,

Carolyn

I was going to suggest for him to take it back where he bought it whether Apple
Store or carrier store unless of course he ordered it and doesn’t live near any
store. An Apple Store would be his best option, they can fix this for him in no
time.

I'm sure folks are tired of my suggesting to call Apple Accessibility, but you

It was so much easier with a home button.

Are you running the latest version of iTunes? I’m not sure if that’s a
problem, but it might be. I know there have been issues in the past where you
had to have your iTunes up to a certain level for things to work life. I can’t
get the Quickstart to work either, and it is frustrating. I know my old iPhone

maybe it’s on iOS 12.0, that might be the problem. Do you have an iCloud back

I can’t enter any passcodes. When I swipe up to upgrade as voice over tells
me, voice over dies. When I brought a sighted person to enter the passcode,
the phone was not responding.
I only need to wipe it clean now. I can’t even do that.

Hi folks,
I bought a new iPhone XR and I can’t set it up.

Regards,

Cris
