RE: iOS 8.1.1 has been released

This is not true for everyone. I never had 7, but I can't agree that 1-2 seconds for an app to open is too long. I only started with 8.1 to be fair, but my old 4s on 7 last year seemed very sluggish comparatively. There is an easy work-around for this which is not to swipe, but to first touch the middle of the screen and then swipe, but it’s still a bug. For what it's worth, my iPhone 5 feels no slower on iOS 8.x than it did on 7.x. Certainly, 8.1.1 didn't slow anything down at all. There are still bugs, to be sure, but I find braille input, interactive notifications, the improved Spotlight, and other features more than worth the minor annoyance of some bugs that rarely bother me. I still have the bug on my iPhone 4S where touching the delete button, or any button in the Mail app, doesn't actually give that button VocieOver focus. I have to swipe to a button to make sure that a double tap will activate the right button. On 11/19/2014 10:20 AM, Sieghard Weitzel wrote: Hi Davy, All gone is a touch optimistic. Hi Sieghard I hear so many people complaining about a bug in safari that you can nolonger navigate page per page with a three finger swipe up or down. Sorry but I cannot reproduce this, on most sites I can navigate down to the last page with these gestures. This mail with the very conprehensive list of small inconveniences helped me a lot. Indeed the lock screen notification bug is still not there but not constant; sometimes messages are spoken sometimes not. Yes, keypad tones - That reminds me! I've always wanted to have clicks when brailling on the keyboard and speech at the end of each word (after space) but haven't been able to get them. I've contacted Apple already. Is this a particular bug with the braille input keyboard or not? If you mean clearing the search field in the app store then yes, just double tap Clear text twice. The second time you hear a bonk sound which indicates there is nothing there any more and if you swipe right it will say “Double tap to dismiss instead of clear text and that means the search field is empty even though Voiceover will still announce what you last typed in. RE: iOS 8.1.1 has been released
Hi Pablo, Of course you decide when to upgrade, but iOS 8.1.1 is in my opinion a pretty good compromise. Yes, there are some bugs, but some major ones have been fixed and some of the new features are nice. Like I said, you have the information and you decide. Apple is definitely planning lots of updates to iOS 8. Usually there is only 1 major update, e.g. in iOS 7 there was 7.1 and then 7.1.2 which was the last version. It took Apple until March to release iOS 7.1 whereas this time iOS 8.1 was released in October. There are lots of rumours that Apple has already been working on iOS 8.2 and I guess there is a chance that before 8.2 we’ll see 8.1.2 so like I said, Apple may not have released iOS 8 with a minimum of bugs, but they are working hard on making it better. Keep in mind that with Android you are largely at the mercy of carriers as to when you get an update or not and many carrier do their own customizations to Android which make accessibility more difficult. Re: iOS 8.1.1 has been released
Hi Raul. I don't know why you are saying that I want an IOs free of bugs. I didn't say in my email, please read it again. I am just asking if he bugs that has been boring the voice over users, are still there. Why I am asking this? well, because with IOs 8, there were found many, too much bugs, later with the IOs 8.1, not many of those bugs were fixed. Of course that my question make sense, I am asking again, if the bugs that you, user of IOs 8 found in this release, are still in IOs 8.1.1. It is not so difficult to understand. Now if I am wanting that apple develop an IOs free of bugs, believe me Raul, I know that it will never be. This is a busy list? yes, maybe if apple makes a better job creating their operated system, the number of email list will be very few. But, I know it is a lie for ever. Well, thinking about how busy is this email list, is because of this, that I am asking. I am not able to read 300 emails daily. Sorry, I am very busy. But I promise you, that I will keep my topic until apple stop playing with their customers. Yes, you have been looking my emails since IOs 6, later IOs 7, IOs 8, and so on I am not hapy? yes, and I am using my right to highlight something that ai believe unfair.. > Pablo Morales > On Nov 18, 2014, at 9:07 PM, "Raul A. RE: iOS 8.1.1 has been released
Hi Pablo. All iOS versions have Voice Over bugs, Safari bugs, mail bugs, messages bugs, phone call bugs, ETC. You will never get a completely bug-free system. You will have to decide for yourself which bugs are deal breakers for you and which ones you can live with. For me specifically for example, the voice over scrolling bug which has been there since iOS 8.0 and all the way through 8.1 has now been fixed with iOS 8.1.1. Are there other bugs, of course there are. I have known your posts since before iOS 6 basically saying the same thing. If you want Apple to put out a bug free iOS, you will be waiting forever. You can read the messages on this busy list, or you can go over to www.applevis.com and see what they have to say about the existing bugs there. Good luck. RE: Resetting Network Settings was RE: iOS 8.1.1 has been released
Hi John, I think this is one case where you have your opinion and we have ours and we'll just have to agree that we disagree. Not much point in saying you are right since there is no way to proof that it is so. Just because you never had problems with an upgrade not doing this doesn't mean somebody who had problems might not have avoided them by doing it. It's a bit like upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Microsoft may make it possible to upgrade, but I would never do it and the only way I ever upgrade from one major version of Windows to another is by doing a complete fresh install and in the same way I will always do a Reset All Network Settings or at least a reboot of my device after removing all apps from the app switcher before doing any sort of iOS update. Sieghard, You're preaching to the choir here. I agree that your suggestions are wise to follow when doing an iOS upgrade. I've experienced the disaster when helping a friend upgrade to iOS 7 through iTunes and it didn't take and required her to reset her phone and start over. Hi Alan, Yes, if you use 5 or 6 different WiFi networks then that could be inconvenient. I mostly use my Home WiFi and my work WiFi and a couple of times a year I visit my parents and may use theirs or that of a friend. I don't find entering 3 or 4 WiFi passwords very inconvenient, but everybody is different and for some it may be a daunting task knowing they have to reconnect to even just their own home WiFi. In this case removing all apps from the app switcher and at least shutting down the phone for 30 seconds and turning it back on is a good compromise. I know a couple people here said they don't even close out their apps when they upgrade. All I can say here is to each their own. I have heard a lot of stories where people upgraded without doing any of the recommended things and they end up with horrible battery life, unexpected crashes or other weird inconsistancies. RE: iOS 8.1.1 has been released
Hi Christina and Eden, The least one should do before an update is to remove all apps from the app switcher and to turn off the phone, wait 30 seconds and turn it back on. This is just good practice because an iPhone which has not been rebooted for a long time can have stuff in memory and so on which may negatively impact an iOS update. Doing a Reset all Network Settings in Settings, General, Reset does in fact not delete any networks, but it will as the name indicates "reset" all network modems to factory settings and it will delete your WiFi password which means after you reboot the phone you have to go to Settings, WiFi and reconnect to your WiFi. However, it will also clear out anything which potentially could effect an update from memory and it is something some people who know a thing about iOS recommend. It's not strictly necessary, but while I have often read on the list how people had problems where an update didn't complete or really messed up the phone, I have never in 5 years had a single problem with an update not going perfectly smooth and I do follow my own advice here. Re: iOS 8.1.1 has been released
Some use ITunes to update their phones but I haven't done this since very early days of using an IPod. I find it very straightforward just to update over the air (WiFi). I always remove all apps from the switcher. Sometimes I have loads running and think there's no point in leaving them in the system as it just may be better for updating to have done it. I also reboot my phone and plug it in. You go to Settings, General and then Updates. You will be told if you have one and guided through. You can miss things if you leave your phone during update so may not know how far it's got but eventually, once updated, rebooted and put back any apps you have, it should come up speaking. You may then have to do a few little things to finish the setup, but you will be guided through that part. I do not have notification that I have the update yet. (Perhaps Santa's forgotten me), so I can't speak specifically to this one but have done a number now. It's not really that scary, honest! Hope this helps. Hi all I have been running the beta for over a week and have to say it's been a positive improvement on the 4s. Those scrolling issues talked about appear to be gone.
