Thanks, Richard...that is what I suggested because something similar
happened to my SE before. He did not realize that his battery was so
low. Now the 6+ seems to be greedily recharging.

Whew!

Or, plug it in and reboot it by holding down the power and home buttons for
about 7 seconds together, and then releasing both and waiting a few minutes to
see if it comes back up.

Hi Anna.

Thanks for that. I do see it at their problem. I would love to get
rid of my landline here. I'm locked into a contract with this provider.

I could understand it if I was in a rural location, but that isn't the case.

Hi Tom, the 6 Plus supports all the same frequencies as the 5s, and then a lot
more. So something's not right somewhere. Perhaps it's a temporary cell site
outage, or yes it could be faulty hardware. It would be worth your friend

RE: 6 or 6 plus

2015-01-11 Thread Deidre Muccio
Anthony
Verizon has been pestering me for weeks because my old flip cell was
scheduled to be turned off at the beginning of next month. Also I have been
without a contract for years. So they prorated the final bill's charges so
when I activate the new phone when it arrives I won't be paying for the old
phone and new one the same month. I got the 6 64 g for $300 with a $150
credit and they waved the $30 fee for reactivation or whatever it is. Then
for $50 per month, I have unlimited calling and texting and 1 gig data.
Massachusetts cost me another $40 in tax but no way around that. So I'm set.
I also opted to buy the 7.15 insurance per month insuring me for loss,
stolen or damaged phone. They did inform me that there would be a $100
charge if they did indeed replace a phone. Then of course there is a penalty
for breaking the contract but had I bought a new unlocked phone I'd still be
needing minutes and texting and maybe data, so with no long distance on my
land line, I figured I made out pretty well. Good thing that storm hit and I
never made it down to the Apple store last Friday before Verizon called me
yesterday! In fact today a friend said she is still using an old flip phone
and said she is paying more than I am for a whole lot less. She too is off
contract with Verizon. I told her to call and get on the band wagon pronto.

Hi Deidre;

Starting with the 5s and up you can use Verizon's iPhone on any other cell
carrier.

I used my Verizon iPhone 5s on AT&T with no problem.

Also, if you buy an unlocked iPhone you will probably not get the discounted
price you would get with Verizon.

I was pleasantly surprised at the knowledge most of the Apple employees
have.

I'm sure their is at least one employee in your local Apple Store who is
aware of Voiceover.

Good Luck
Anthony

Re: 6 or 6 plus

2015-01-02 Thread Alex Hall
The only difference that might relate to accessibility is OIS. Optical image
stabilization means that shaky hands or slight movements of the camera won't
matter as much, good for free-hand OCR. That said, the iPhone 6 already has
this feature in its software, whereas the Plus has it in hardware, so who knows
if it truly makes enough difference. All other gestures and commands will be
the same on either one. Oh, braille screen input is different: in Tabletop
Mode, you can put your fingers side by side instead of in the slight V shape
required on the 6 or below. Some people also enjoy using the on-screen keyboard
(in landscape mode) more since they can type normally, as though on a small
keyboard instead of hunting about with one finger. Those are all going to vary
from user to user, though. I can't think of anything else that will be
different.

Regarding upgrading to the latest version of iOS 7, not possible.
Apple stopped signing version 7 about a week after iOS 8 was released.
Regarding the 6 or 6 Plus, it depends on what you will be using your
phone for, and if you have some vision. If you are low vision, then
you might find the larger screen on the 6 Plus to be better for seeing
everything. If you are total, then do you want your phone to last
forever and a day like the 6 Plus, or is this important to you? As
with many things, it depends on how you use your phone. I have the 6
and have been very pleased with it since first getting it in late
September. My battery lasts all day, and I often don't hit low battery
area until shortly before bedtime. The 6 is a little bigger than the 5
series, but not much. The 6 Plus looked too big for me, and I have
been happy with the smaller 6 for that reason.

RE: 6+

2014-12-13 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Jessica,

There are really only 3 main differences: first of all the size would be the
most noticeable difference. Second is battery life which is double or close to
double in a 6 Plus because it has a 2,900 MAH battery which vs the 1,560 MAH in
a 5S and lastly the camera has optical image stabilization which may or may not
help with apps like KNFB Reader and so on. I still haven't seen a definitive
article on whether it really does make a difference and I think maybe it could
make a difference for people who don't have a steady hand, but if you can hold
your iPhone still then it probably won't make that much of a difference. Then
of course there are things like the power button which on the 6 Plus is on the
right side at the top rather than on the top at the right corner and the 6 Plus
has somewhat better speakers.

As for the processor, the 6 Plus has the A8 processor, but in benchmark tests
the difference between the A7 processor which is in the 5S and which is already
a 64 Bit processor and the A8 is only about 20 to 25% and I doubt you will find
that this increase will make much of a difference in day-to-day use. Most
things on a 5S only take a few seconds so I guess if something took 5 seconds
like maybe recognizing a larger document in KNFB Reader, it may take only 4
seconds on a 6 Plus. I certainly think that upgrading from a 5S to a 6 Plus is
a waste of money for most people, only situation where it might make sense was
for somebody who really depends on getting the best possible battery life or
maybe if you do tons of typing and you totally can master direct touch typing
with the phone in landscape mode on a table in front of you or maybe using
braille input in the same way.

Sieghard

Hi Jenny, I actually prefer holding up the 6 Plus to my ear over any other
iPhone I've used, because it's length means the microphone is closer to your
mouth. It makes for better quality, and higher intelligibility in crowds, and I
can often tell when someone is calling me on the 6 Plus because their voice is

That is interesting. I would certainly welcome the option to turn a split
screen off.

Thanks for that gem. I can check out before purchase.

When I first looked at both, I felt the 6 would be the one for me and the
plus would just be too big.

I have a question, because eventually I will upgrade: Do certain screens go
into split screen mode, as with the IPAD. That was one of the things I
didn't do well with the pad so would welcome some feedback on this. If
there are some then I'd like to hear how people tackle them, please.

Good Evening,

My fiance and I just upgraded this weekend from iPhone 5s's to the 6 Plus.
Right now we are "getting used" to the phones. I really haven't talked on
the phone without using a headset, he has, he thinks it feels weird.

I like the size as I am a VO user primarily but can use my vision and zoom
on occation so I do like that! However, I'm not sure about the size
overall. It doesn't fit in my pockets like my smaller phone, I know "duh!"
but I guess I didn't realize how BIG it really is.

Perhapse, the case I have is also adding some bulk, as it's a "wallet" style
so I ordered a TPU case which is similar to my old one on my 5s. We'll see.

Plus I'm still getting used to the overall size! How long does it take to
get used to that?

We are both thinking of maybe going to the 6. Gee, I would have never
thought I'd have thought the phone would be too big!

Re: 6+

2014-12-09 Thread Alex Hall
The Plus does do split screen. This feature, though, only happens in landscape
orientation and must be implemented by the ap open at the time. For instance,
the App Store won't do it, but Mail will. Calendar will, but Dice Wrld won't.
In the future, expect more developers to support this feature, but it is not
something iOS does automatically to every app.

I have the iPhone 6 but I think that the 6 plus is more likely to go
into the split screen mode, like an iPad. I don't know if this is on
all screens or certain ones. I have found the 6 to be the right size.
Even with an OtterBox Defender series case, the phone still fits
nicely in my pocket and is not too thick.

2014-12-09 Thread carol.pearso...@googlemail.com

RE: 6+ running 8.1 and notifications question.

2014-11-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Billy,

Did you have a passcode set on your 4S? I assume you didn't and that is why you
have to unlock with your fingerprint on your 6 Plus. If you have touch Id set
up that means you set up a passcode and security. If somebody could simply tap
on a notification and get into your phone then all that security would be
completely useless.

hello everyone,

I noticed something odd with my 6+ running ios 8.1. when I get a message
and skype notifications I have to usethe fingerprint id to unlock it to
reply o the notification. on my 4s running 7.1.2 This waws not the case and
I could just double tap on the notification onthe lock screen and it'd
open. My question is is this normal behavior now or isthre a jesture to
unlock the phone like the double tap on the notification used too?

Thanks,

Re: 6+ running 8.1 and notifications question.

2014-11-01 Thread Shawn Krasniuk
Hi Billy. If you set touch ID to unlock your phone, then yes this is normal.
However, I think you can flick up with one finger for more options, and one
option should be reply. If you double tap on that, it should give you an
on-screen keyboard where you can send the message. If I'm wrong about all this,
then you guys can correct me.

OtterBox already has cases on their site for the 6 and 6 Plus. Though
these cases tend to be more expensive at around $30 to $50, they do
protect your phone, and some even have screen protectors built in.

Re: 6 and 6+ cases - Apple sold versus waiting for other vendors?

2014-09-15 Thread Agent086b
Hi,
I have no experience with iPhone cases from Apple. However we did purchase the
leather iPad Air case from Apple. In my opinion it was far superior to anything
else we saw.

Re: 6 and 6+ cases - Apple sold versus waiting for other vendors?

2014-09-15 Thread Charles Rivard
I would think that time will tell when other vendors have cases available. It
would be logical to think that they will be available when they have been
produced?

  Hi,

Apple will be selling Leather and silicone cases with the new phones. They
seem a bit expensive at $50 or $40. In the past, what has been the quality of
these? How long after the phones are introduced are the cases from other
vendors available, such as through Amazon?

  Thanks Keith
