Hi Alan,

Try changing your punctuation from none to some. That should fix the problem.

While I appreciate your opinion, I've always preferred the Samantha high
quality voice and the default lower quality one doesn't change the issue I
posted about. In addition to my original post differences, I'm also noticing
that my status bar now pronounces the number of wifi bars as weefee bars when
I'm sure it used to say WyFie bars. And my battery charge now says 93 battery
power instead of 93 percent battery power as it used to.

Rebooting my phone or choosing the default voices doesn't change these new
pronunciations and I'm surprised no one else is experiencing them.

Actually in my opinion, the Samantha low quality voice sounds better than the
high quality voice. It sound like it should be the other way around. Try using
the lower quality voice and see if your issues are still there.

The first change is minor and concerns how VO speaks the minutes when
announcing the time when they are less than 10 after the hour. I feel certain
that before a couple of days ago, VO would say the o for zero before announcing
the minute. For example if the time were 8:05 a.m., VO would say 8 oh 5 a.m.
Now, VO is saying 8 5 a.m. Like I said, no big deal but I'm curious why they
would change such a thing and I'm wondering if anyone else noticed it.

The other issue is more annoying. When VO is reading my texts and emails I've
composed back to me, the pause indicating punctuation such as a period at the
end of a sentence seems to have greatly decreased or disappeared altogether.
I've had to double check on more than one occasion to ensure that I included a
period because VO read my text as if the sentences were typed without one. I've
reviewed my VoiceOver settings to make sure nothing has been added to control
this and could not find anything. Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm using the Samantha high quality voice for VoiceOver if this makes a
difference.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

You might also want to check that VoiceOver isn't set to know punctuation in
the punctuation rotor setting. I always keep it on some, otherwise weird things
start happening with VoiceOver that I don't like, such as it not saying the
zero in the time.

Hi, if you copy something like 3 of 3 WIFI bars, you will notice, that it
completely ignores the dash. Rather than a dash, it will copy a space. While
the setting, in my opinion, leaves a lot to be desired, it is still better than
the other 2 options.

Rajmund,

You're a prince and thanks so much. I always try to remind myself to put the
rotor to something like headings or words so not to inadvertently change one of
the other items it contains. I must have mistakenly set the punctuation to none
because now that I've set it to some, I'm getting the proper pause at periods
in my texts, wifi is being pronounced WyFie in my status bar, and percentage is
being announced with my battery charge. When the time gets to a new hour, I'm
sure the o will once again be stated for minutes less than 10 after.

After three years, I was hoping to avoid such newbie mistakes but one must
always be careful of the inadvertent rotor changes and recognize better than I
did when you change one.

Hi, By any chance, did you turn punctuation to none? That's what I have, just
because I can't stand any punctuation, and I hear 8:5 AM, instead of 8:05 a dot
m. Sentences run together, etc. Flick the rotor about, and see if punctuation
is on there. If yes, put it to some, and see what happens.

RE: Anyone Else Noticed Recent VoiceOver Changes?

2016-08-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan,

I think it was Rajmund who mentioned punctuation and I just confirmed that that
is your problem.
I added punctuation to the Rotor since I believe that is the only place where
you can change it, and I confirmed that I had it set to “Some”. The other two
choices are “Non” and “All”.
As soon as I set it to “Non” Voiceover said “we fee” instead of WiFi and it
didn’t announce the percent sign with battery percentage which I guess would
make sense since the percent sign is punctuation.
It also just announced the time as “3 1” and not 3 O 1”, again it makes sense
since the time is displayed as 3 then a colon and the 01, without punctuation
Voiceover leaves out the leading zero.
Also, if you spell the WiFi are in the status bar letter by letter you will
find that it is spelled with a hyphen as in “Wi-Fi”. I guess if punctuation is
set to some it realizes that there is a hyphen and it pronounces it correctly
but it won’t pronounce the hyphen. If you set it to all it will actually say
“Wi hyphen Fi”.
If you have set it to None that would probably also explain the lack of a pause
at the end of a sentence.
Not sure how it would have changed from “Some” which I believe is the default,
to “None” although if you have Punctuation in the rotor it’s probably easy to
accidently change it. Just try it by setting it back to “Some” and I’m sure the
proper world order will be restored *smile*.

Thanks for the suggestion but turning off the use pitch change setting didn’t'
affect my issue. In the status bar, I'm still getting my number of bars

Subject: Anyone Else Noticed Recent VoiceOver Changes?

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed a couple of VoiceOver changes that I
became aware of in the past couple of days. I updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9.3.4
last night but I noticed these changes while still running iOS 9.3.3.

Alan,
The exact same thing happened to me some months ago, and since I do not ever
change the punctuation setting, I removed it from my rotor so I would not make
the same mistake again.
Might be something you consider if punctuation is something you never change.

months ago might've been six months at this point already. It drove me crazy
and yes it took me forever to get into settings and find exactly what I could

Rob,

Thanks for the suggestion but turning off the use pitch change setting didn’t'
affect my issue. In the status bar, I'm still getting my number of bars
pronounced as weefee instead of WyFie, the o being omitted from a time
announcement where the minutes are less than 10 after, and the percentage being
omitted from the battery charge.

RE: Anyone Else Noticed Recent VoiceOver Changes?

2016-08-05 Thread Alan Lemly

Yes, it does seem to be true. I was visiting friends and we compared the

I have not noticed these things, but I have not installed the recently released

RE: Anyone Else Noticed Recent VoiceOver Changes?

2016-08-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan,

It just so happened that it was a few minutes before 8 just now on Friday
morning when I read your message. I finished the messages and then checked the
time at which point it was 8:07 and my enhanced Samantha voice did announce the
time after I pressed the home button to wake up the phone as 8 O 7.
Not sure why she doesn’t for you, I also find I can still hear if a sentence is
done and ended with a period.
Have you rebooted your phone after doing the update? You might want to give
that a try.
I am using iOS 10 public beta, but I just checked on my wife’s iPhone which is
running the latest iOS 9.3 update and it also says the time correctly as 8 O 7.

Regards,
Sieghard

Subject: Anyone Else Noticed Recent VoiceOver Changes?

I'm curious if anyone else has noticed a couple of VoiceOver changes that I
became aware of in the past couple of days. I updated my iPhone 6 to iOS 9.3.4
last night but I noticed these changes while still running iOS 9.3.3.
