Re: Can You Set Manual Routes With Sendero Groups?
Hi Sieghard, I wonder if you can help re this, My Way Light: I fired it up last night and took a stroll around the house, putting in markers. I should explain that we have enough land here to mark places, sometimes at a distance of, say, 100 yards. I marked gates, steps, back doors etc. However, the clock directions seemed to be diametrically opposite to the reality. So, if it said 3-O-Clock it was infact at 9. This was so much so, that I thought, perhaps I am imagining this virtual clock from a wrong perspective? I assume, being new to the notion of using clock references, that I am in the centre of the clock face? What ever I am doing wrong, it makes this app useless for me, but I would love to get it right. Any hints most gratefully received. Sandy. I would definitely love to hear everyone's feedback, as I have downloaded the lite version of this app. It occurred to me that I could use this to find important places within my apartment complex i.e. the trash bin; the laundry room, the mailbox, etc.--seeing I'm pretty new here. I also had the clock issues that Sandra pointed out. Please shed light on what I'm doing wrong. I have the phone in front of me with the home button toward me. Thank you! It sounds like you are holding the phone correctly. Imagine yourself in the center of the clock face. Twelve o'clock should be straight in front of you. I do understand the clock interface. However when I try to locate the trashcan, it said it was at 1 o'clock and it actually was at 11 o'clock. That is, it was closer to my left hand than to my right hand. Well, we are headed off to the mountains this weekend, so it will be interesting to try this app and see if the iPhone gps receiver is good enough to make the thing useful. Even under the best of circumstances, gps is only so accurate. RE: Can You Set Manual Routes With Sendero Groups?
Hi Eileen, To my knowledge the app doesn't allow for this functionality at this point. Keep in mind that this is the first official release and other features will be added in time. If you listen to the presentation for which there is a link on the Sendero website Steve May clearly states that future enhancements to the app will be made and will be based on priorities. These priorities largely come from what users ask for and their feedback. When MobileGeo first came out you couldn't do a manual route either, but then later on they added that feature and I would be surprised if this wouldn't be part of the app at some point. In the meantime you can use apps like MyWay Classic which does a great job for things like that. I have used it exactly for your example, for setting points at a campground to find the showers, washrooms and my tent. Re: Can You Set Manual Routes With Sendero Groups?
You need a connection to the cellular network to use the gps app. So if you are camping and without such a connection, as is true for the places we camp, then you will not be able to use it in such cases. The maps are not on the phone; it is all server based; hence the need for the cell connection. Hi Mary, Thanks for pointing this out. May be I will need my Apex after all. I haven't been to Yosemite in 6 years, so I am not sure if the cell coverage is any better with AT T. The last time there was only WiFi at the hotels within the valley. I may be OOL. Re: Can You Set Manual Routes With Sendero Groups?
MyWay Classic should not require any cellular connection. I believe it Strickley works off the GPS. It does not use maps, rather points that you insert, to do its navigation. Re: Can You Set Manual Routes With Sendero Groups?
Hi Eileen, I think the main difference between My Way Lite and My Way Classic is that you don't get nagged to buy the paid (Classic) version. For Yosemite and the other National parks the Chimani guides (currently free) are good and pretty accessible, as I recall. Here's the link for their guide to Yosemite: • Chimani Yosemite National Park by Chimani, LLC https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/chimani-yosemite-national/id389824229?mt=8 HTH. Re: Can You Set Manual Routes With Sendero Groups?
Hi Esther, as I respond to your email, I am in the process of downloading the Yosemite app. Thanks for the suggestion. I will still take a look at MyWay Classic and see if it's something I can use. Again, thanks.
