RE: Dictate button to left of space bar

2013-10-23 Thread Ron Pelletier
Hi Simon,

It came out well but, are you aware of the fact that you can also put in
punctuation. Just say comma or period where you want the marks. It will
make your text easier to listen to with VO.

RE: Dictate button to left of space bar

2013-10-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Simon,

"discombobulated", really? *smile*
I consider myself bilingual after 24 years of living in Canada, but that one
I had to look up:

discombobulate
disconcert or confuse (someone).
"he is looking a little pained and discombobulated"

The above from Google. Anyhow, if you mean that the salutation of your
message, e.g. "Hello John" ends up at the bottom of the message then this
means that after you dictate it you must somehow touch the screen or put
focus back to the top of the email field.

As Ron suggested, try the 2-finger double tap to start and stop dictation. I
find I have better results if I dictate in shorter segments. I belive you
can speak as long as 30 seconds, but that is rather a lot of text and
learning how to dictate properly with punctuation and so on does require
practice and I find I often have to just think about what I want to say and
how I want to say it for a moment. If you then make sure focus is at the top
of the screen and start with "Hello John comma new paragraph" then either do
a 2-finger double tap to stop or, if you know what exactly you want to say
you can continue, it should work just fine. I also never send a message
before making sure Dictation hasn't messed up since sometimes it just seems
to get certain words wrong.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Hi Simon,

Try, once you have double tapped with one finger to activate the text box,
to double tap with 2 fingers to activate the dictate feature. Once finished
dictating, double tap again with 2 fingers to end it all. See if this helps
you.

RE: Dictate button to left of space bar

2013-10-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I believe the person who reported it missing might have had SIRI turned off
and as Kimber correctly said, SIRI has to be one for Dictation to work.
However, while the Dictate button is there, I find myself usually using the
shortcut which is a 2-finger double tap in the edit field. Often one has to
double tap with one finger to put the cursor into the edit field and at that
point it's an easy thing to do another double tap this time with 2 fingers
in order to start Dictation.much m

2013-10-20 Thread Kimberly
I believe the dictate button only shows up when Siri is turned on.

Re: Dictate button to left of space bar

2013-10-20 Thread Teresa Cochran
As far as I know, the dictate button hasn't been discontinued. I have it in my
IOS7. I use it, too, and like it. Quite an admission for someone who normal
hates dictating, but it's growing on me. :)
