Re: Speaker phone issue

2018-03-29 Thread Arlene
A cheapo flip phone as you call it are useful, and if some individuals for
whatever reason fell more confortable with dialing a number on a button phone
there's nothing wrong with that. Especially considering all the more, if they
are just getting use to navigating the touch screen on wit being their new
iphone and you're rightit takes practice. Though until one has had time to get
use to it, in the meantime for times when they are out somewhere or other
crucial times, for some individuals, dialing on a button phone and being able
to do it quickly may be best. After all, everyone has their own ways of doing
things and learning,. That practice time can vary to from person to person. I'm
very confortable in dialing a phone number on a touch screen, though equally I
still like dialing on a button phone, whether it be a cordless phone, a cell
phone or wired phone. I've only been at this for about 3 months, finding
buttons while being in a call, plus other details, answering a call waiting,
then going back to the first caller, and making a 3 way call, finding all those
important buttons will take more practice.

As Richard suggested, just disable the automatic switching in Voiceover
Settings > Audio.

I don’t agree with the statement that the phone part of the iPhone is the
worst part and I would never carry some cheapo flip phone just to make phone
calls, this would mean having two cell contracts since I assume these people
would still want to have service on the iPhone for texting and so on.

I might agree if somebody has physical issues which make it difficult to use
the touch screen, but for people who have normal use of their hands I think
it’s just practice.

for calls and they use their iPhone for the other neat stuff you can do.

I think Marie already said she doesn’t consider this to be a good solution
because then if she needs to enter numbers after a phone call she can’t hear
Voiceover.

With automatic switching turned off you would have to find the Speakerphone
button in order to put the call on the external speaker, this is the behaviour
sighted people get. Of course they can see the button so it’s no big deal, with
Voiceover you have to hold the phone somewhat close to your ear so you can
still hear Voiceover and find the button but not close enough so the proximity
sensor kicks in and disables the touch screen.

Of course the alternative here is a headset and in fact even with automatic
switching a headset will prevent this from happening.

RE: Speaker phone issue

2018-03-28 Thread llumpkin
The speaker phone works as I would expect it to work on my iphone 7. When I
hold the phone away from my ear for a second or two, the speaker comes on and
goes off if I replace the phone to my ear.

As Richard suggested, just disable the automatic switching in Voiceover
Settings > Audio.

I don’t agree with the statement that the phone part of the iPhone is the worst
part and I would never carry some cheapo flip phone just to make phone calls,
this would mean having two cell contracts since I assume these people would
still want to have service on the iPhone for texting and so on.

I might agree if somebody has physical issues which make it difficult to use
the touch screen, but for people who have normal use of their hands I think
it’s just practice.

I haven't tested this, but I believe "headset" here refers to the small speaker

Subject: Re: speaker phone issue

Sounds like a proximity sensor problem, where the sensor is sometimes
thinking your phone is held to your ear and sometimes thinking it isn't. I
suppose a good cleaning (be sure to look up how to properly clean touch
screens) couldn't hurt, particularly around the sensors. In the meantime,
you can go to Settings > General > Accessibility, and choose the Call
Routing option. Set this to whichever you want; you can still use the
speakerphone, but you'll have to manually enable it instead of letting it
switch automatically.
