Re: Streaming Music Services!

2014-07-08 Thread Flor Lynch
The person may wonder why it is not available to them, and it isn't
obvious to a beginner (of which there are several). Nobody said iTunes
Radio oir any of the other georestricted music streaming services are
worthless. I understand from the media that there are plans to extend
iTunes Radio to some other countries in September.

Yes but why state the obvious again. If it isn't available where, there
is
nothing you can do about it and there is that chance too that somebody
else

may make use of it or send it to another friend etc. So, just because
somebody can't get it doesn't necessarily make it worthless.

Re: Streaming Music Services!

2014-07-07 Thread Wayne Merritt
I've been using one called AccuRadio that I found when browsing
through results on AppleVis. It is very accessible, though the initial
account creation process could be a little easier. For instance,
VoiceOver said edit box but then when I touched near the bottom of the
screen VoiceOver said "picker item." I was able to sign up for an
account with little trouble after that. They have a wide variety of
genres or you can choose what others are listening to. You cannot
search by artist like on Pandora. AccuRadio does let you ban specific
songs or artists though rather than Pandora where you can only
like/dislike things. AccuRadio is free and gives you unlimited skips
for each station. I am not sure if it is restricted to the United
States or not. Some genres have lots of subcategories and others do
not. For the most part thoughI have really liked and enjoyed what I
have played there.

Hello, I am trying to find the best streaming music service. I was
wondering if VoiceOver worked with which streaming service, or does
VoiceOver work with all of the streaming music service? Also, I like
all kinds of music, but my favorite music is 60s and 70s pop, soul,
and country. Any help would be appreciated, thanks! Christine

Rhapsody, Was Re: Streaming Music Services!

2014-07-03 Thread Teresa Cochran
Actually, Tim, if you don't mind, I really think your questions would be
relevant. Rhapsody is kind of tricky. Basically, to get to the search field and
the other navigation menu items, you have to do a three-finger horizontal swipe
to the previous page. In most cases, this means swipe to the right with three
fingers. The commmand doesn't always register, but keep trying till you hear
"page one of one". That prompt doesn't make sense, I know, but it must be some
aspect of a visual presentation with separate panels or something of the like.

Another thing about Rhapsody is that there are buttons that are really menus.
When you go to an artist page, there's a button that says "top tracks" below
the artist's name. If you press this, you get a menu of choices for what will
be shown: top tracks, albums, and I think one other choice that I can't recall
at the moment.

Anyhow, I like the service enough that I'm willing to deal with the
idiosyncrasies of the ap. Just let me know if you have more questions.

Hi,

I use both Pandora and Rhapsody. They do slightly different things. Pandora
creates "radio stations" based on the artists you choose. ITunes radio is
similar. Rhapsody allows you to play whole albums or songs at will. Rhapsody is
a little tricky, but quite accessible once you get used to it. Rhapsody always
says it's not online, but it is.

Any idea of what the premium service goes for? They didn't say in the
end of the trial period. There was a button for continue listening for
free so I double tapped that. I've been listening to the Peter Paul and
Mary songs.

One other small difference I discovered between iTunes Radio and

double

I do find the Pandora main screen to be a bit more cluttered, and I do

I haven't really compared the music selections much between the two

Hi Jonathan,
I did not realize you could play a single artist on the iPhone. My iPhone
crashes with the Spotify app. I guess it must be for iOS seven, but then, why
did it let me download it? Works great on the iPad, and I am using the 30 day
free trial for the full program. I believe the paid version also gives you a
higher bit rate. It sounds very good on the highest quality setting, better
than Pandora I think.

Re: Streaming Music Services

2013-12-17 Thread Jonathan Mosen
Agreed Mary. Now that the free Spotify is out for iOS, there's nothing that
comes close.
It's true that on the iPad you can nominate a specific song to be played which
is amazing. I had the iPad going through the Apple TV on Airplay the other
night, typing in the names of songs I hadn't heard for years and having them
play instantly in full. Amazing stuff for a free service. But even on the
iPhone, you can nominate a specific artist, and music from that artist and that
artist alone is put on shuffle.

Any idea of what the premium service goes for? They didn't say in the end

One other small difference I discovered between iTunes Radio and Pandora,
is that when you start Pandora it will automatically start playing the
last stream you were listening to. With iTunes Radio, you need to double

a song the thumbs up or thumbs down. On the downside with iTunes Radio,
you have to double tap on the like/dislike button before you can select

probably a push unless you're in the lock screen and have a passcode

I do find the Pandora main screen to be a bit more cluttered, and I do
have to wait for VoiceOver to restart after it gets hung up in the
middle of the Pandora screen. Other than this, they're pretty comparable
from an accessibility stand point.

I haven't really compared the music selections much between the two
services. The Classic Hard Rock genre on iTunes Radio did seem pretty
small to me though, but when I switched to the Classic Rock genre, I was
much more satisfied. Pandora seems to do a better job of playing playing
more songs I like, but maybe that's because I've been using it longer
and it has more data about what I like and don't like. It's also a catch
22 since that also means I hear less new music that I might like, which
maybe is why I've been using iTunes Readio a bit more lately.

LKike I said below, they're both free and accessible, so give them both
a download and a try before deciding if you want to upgrade.

I compared iTunes Radio and Pandora a bit more this morning. Pandora
also integrates nicely into the lock screen and the control Panel, but
iTunes Radio does give you the like/dislike button on the lock screen
and the Control Panel whereas you have to go to the Pandora app to
give a song the thumbs up or thumbs down. On the downside with iTunes
Radio, you have to double tap on the like/dislike button before you
can select play more like this or never play this track again, whereas
Pandora let's you do this right from the Pandora main screen.
therefore, it's probably a push unless you're in the lock screen and
have a passcode set.

I do find the Pandora main screen to be a bit more cluttered, and I do
have to wait for VoiceOver to restart after it gets hung up in the
middle of the Pandora screen. Other than this, they're pretty
comparable from an accessibility stand point.

I haven't really compared the music selections much between the two
services. The Classic Hard Rock genre on iTunes Radio did seem pretty
small to me though, but when I switched to the Classic Rock genre, I
was much more satisfied. Pandora seems to do a better job of playing
playing more songs I like, but maybe that's because I've been using it
longer and it has more data about what I like and don't like. It's
also a catch 22 since that also means I hear less new music that I
might like, which maybe is why I've been using iTunes Readio a bit
more lately.

Some people have said that iTunes Radio does not shuffle songs
appropriately, like hearing a pop song when listening to classical
music. I haven't had these problems though. There are a few times when
the same song that I just said I didn't like, then comes up next in
the shuffle, but again this has not happened very often to me. I like
that when you go into the settings for a particular station, you can
opt to share that station with your social networks. I also like how
you can adjust what you hear on each station, such as between hits,
variety, and discoverable.

RE: Streaming Music Services

2013-12-13 Thread Sherry Gomes
I only use one streaming app. It's called accuradio. I love it. The app is
accessible, no problems with it so far, and the web site is easy to use as
well, when I want to listen to it on my computer.

Pandora is great on IoS. You can use it for free with commercials, or pay
$3.99 a month with no commercials. Rhapsody is pretty good, but it's very
limited for free access and only has samples. I have a subscription to it,
and they have lots of music in a very broad range.
