Re: Switching Carriers, thanks to all
My wife and I haven't gone over our data limit yet with AT&T but all I have to say and you guys will completely understand is we are about to add our 12-year-old daughter to the plan and get her cell phone service that should be enough said right? LOL anyway we also have subscribed to iTunes match and now I have all of our music on the cloud plus all of the streaming I do with my football games and everything like that so I think it's just a smart move in the long run. Trust me it wasn't an easy decision switching as I have been with AT&T for 12 years and have nothing but good things to say about their service. Like I said I have 14 days to go back if for some reason we don't like it or it doesn't work for us. Re: Switching Carriers, thanks to all
I believe an unlocked AT&T phone can be used on T-Mobile. It may not offer the fastest speeds, but speeds in the five to 10 megabyte range are common. If you already have an unlocked GSM phone, get a nanno SIM from T-Mobile and give it a try. I have their prepaid service that offers unlimited data and 100 voice minutes for $30 a month. Re: Switching Carriers, thanks to all
Hi Ray. If you are switching from a company like AT&T or T-Mobile to Sprint or Verizon then you will have to get a different phone. If you're going from AT&T to T-Mobile or T-Mobile to AT&T you will just have to make sure that your phone is unlocked. Blessings, Brent Sent from my iPhone 5 > On Oct 31, 2013, at 12:15 PM, "Ray T. Don't think CDMA has anything to do with it. Verizon uses CDMA and it is fine. I am in the process of switching to Sprint as well. A couple days ago, my son called me using Sprint and voice quality is similar to any other call with an iPhone. Steve - Original Message - From: Ray T. hi ray, I'm not hte best person probly but, I'm told switching carriers you need a new idivice as each is customised for said carrier. Which is kinda icky if you ask me. You'd think they'd just generalise the divice and you could switch carriers. Billy Maynard - Original Message - From: "Ray T. Raul, I have unlimited talk and text and only 2 GB of data. It's never been a problem. The talk is nice because I hate having to tell people hey, I'm on my day time minutes. I'll call you on the weekend when I'm on my unlimited minutes. It's like saying, your not important enough for me to waste my valuable day time minutes on. Even with the 2 GB data limit I've never even come close. Last year when we were traveling for over a month, I still did my email and web browsing just like if I were at home and didn't even use 1 gig much less 2. My wife has the same plan as I do. She got into that face book game Farm Ville. She played it every chance she got. She got a text message from AT&T to let her know she was within 3 hundred MB of her data limit so they do give you a warning. As I recall, she was only 2 days away from the roll over and it didn't matter much. --- Regards, Alan Go Chicago Bears in 2013! Teenagers; Tired of being harassed by your stupid parents? Act now! Re: Switching Carriers, thanks to all
Raul, My wife and I are on a shared data plan, where we share 6 GB of data each month. This is with AT&T. Early in our time with this plan, we regularly used between 85 percent and nearly all of the data. Now we are better about splitting our time between wifi at work and our data when at home or out and about. We can still use at least two thirds of the data though. Our contract runs out next September and we are anxiously counting the months to when we can switch to Sprint for the unlimited data. My data use is mainly streaming media and downloading books and podcasts, and hers is mainly Facebook and playing online games with others. In addition, we are hoping to add an iPad Mini to our plan with Sprint, so I think the unlimited data will serve us well. From what I've read and heard from others, it seems like Sprint is at least $30 less, if not more, than the other major U.S. carriers. Jmt, Wayne On 10/31/13, Raul A. Hi, one thing I'm curious about is how much data did you use with AT&T? The thing I've noticed, and have even seen statistics on, and participated in discussions on Lifehacker and similar is that when people have unlimited data it's more for peace of mind, rather than actually using it. I recently had 6gb of data on 4 phones with data share and upgraded over the summer to 10gb because I added a 5th phone. So, now I see it as each phone can use around 2gb of data to share it evenly. Even then, not all phones do, and for the last few months, barely 5 gb have been used. So, in a sense, we have unlimited data, but it's not written that way on paper. I think it's great that you moved to a new provider because of special incentives, but just know that in the end, people usually end up paying around the same when it comes to the big 3 or big 4 carriers in the states. -- Raul A. If they're still using CDMA instead of TDMA that does not surprise. that's part of the reason I dropped them when I moved up here to the frozen tundra. Ray T.
