RE: The best bits of 902tc

2015-10-08 Thread Richard Turner
The Text Selection is easily my favorite.
First, go into VoiceOver Rotor settings and make sure Text Selection is
selected, it is not by default.
Then, when you get to a place on the web or in an Email or probably lots of
other places, turn the rotor to text selection and then flick up or down to the
desired type of selection. I find line selection to be the best, though Page
selection will work if you just want one page.
Then, once you have text selection set to the amount you want to select, flick
right. Each right flick will get you one more line in line mode.
Then, when you are done, turn the rotor to the right once to edit and flick up
and down until you get on copy or cut if in a true editable field and double
tap, then go where you want to paste it and select paste from the edit rotor
and double tap and you are done.
Much, much easier than the spreading the fingers apart method.

Also, if you are on limited data, the one thing I really hate is that Apple
turns WiFi assist on by default under the Cellular settings. It is nearly the
last item in there. It switches you to LTE Data if your WiFi signal is not up
to Apples standard at that moment.

I noticed it switching to LTE when my WiFi bars were at 2 out of 3. I never
had any trouble when my WiFi was 2 out of 3 bars. So, I turned it off.

HTH,
Richard

hi there,
I've just upgraded to the latest iOS 902. I was running 8.4 on my iPhone 6. I
wonder, would anyone like to tell me what their favourite new functionality is?
for example, editing? I haven't managed to get to grips with that at all yet.
because I am a little late with my upgrade, I have missed all the messages
about the new functionality and wonder if by people telling me their favourite
bits I might be able to jump straight in and use it fully.

sorry for typos/dictation errors, I am still a little challenged re correcting
again.
Thanks, Sandy

Richard,
Thanks so much for this. I didn't have edit selection turned on but I do have
it now, thank you! as you say, the old pinch gesture was very iffy, but this
seems to be solid and completely usable. now, if it will only work with Safari

It sure does. Up and down to cycle through selection modes, and right or left

Flicking left deselect.

It should work on most Safari pages.
I've only used it a few times, but I have not run into any place it doesn't

Re: The best bits of 902tc

2015-10-09 Thread 'Sandratomkins' via VIPhone
hi Richard and all,
I am also finding this very useful when editing dictated text. say, for
example, I dictate a rather long multi clausal sentence and find there are
some mistakes in the middle of it. I don't want to lose the whole sentence,
being rather proud of it, so need to make some corrections…I just go to the
first mistaken word apply the editing text selection thing choose words flick
to the right till I've covered them all and then touch delete then I can read
dictate that portion of the sentence again. Whereas, undo typing, will only
remove the whole sentence, not necessarily what I wanted.

Thanks again, Sandy

I've gotten better at the pinch gesture for selecting texment, but it is rather
finiky—I'm looking forward to using this new way of selecting text in iOS 9.
You can use either method of selecting text to select in or out of edit fields.

Thanks,
Ari

Re: The best bits of 902tc

2015-10-09 Thread Wayne Merritt
To my knowledge, the only place where the new Text Selection feature
does not work is in Messages. This is one big place where I wish it
would work. If you open a text message and find some text, you will
not find the Text Selection rodar item at all. I was talking with some
colleagues today about this and apparently sighted iOS users are also
unable to select text in messages, so it does not appear to be a
VoiceOver bug.

First, go into VoiceOver Rotor settings and make sure Text Selection is
selected, it is not by default.
Then, when you get to a place on the web or in an Email or probably lots
of other places, turn the rotor to text selection and then flick up or
down to the desired type of selection. I find line selection to be the
best, though Page selection will work if you just want one page.
Then, once you have text selection set to the amount you want to select,
flick right. Each right flick will get you one more line in line mode.
Then, when you are done, turn the rotor to the right once to edit and
flick up and down until you get on copy or cut if in a true editable
field and double tap, then go where you want to paste it and select
paste from the edit rotor and double tap and you are done.
Much, much easier than the spreading the fingers apart method.

Also, if you are on limited data, the one thing I really hate is that
Apple turns WiFi assist on by default under the Cellular settings. It
is nearly the last item in there. It switches you to LTE Data if your
WiFi signal is not up to Apples standard at that moment.

I noticed it switching to LTE when my WiFi bars were at 2 out of 3. I
never had any trouble when my WiFi was 2 out of 3 bars. So, I turned it
 off.

 HTH,
 Richard

Subject: The best bits of 902tc

 hi there,
I've just upgraded to the latest iOS 902. I was running 8.4 on my iPhone
 6. I wonder, would anyone like to tell me what their favourite new
functionality is? for example, editing? I haven't managed to get to
grips with that at all yet. because I am a little late with my upgrade,
I have missed all the messages about the new functionality and wonder if
by people telling me their favourite bits I might be able to jump
straight in and use it fully.

sorry for typos/dictation errors, I am still a little challenged re
 correcting again.
 Thanks, Sandy
